What do you think the Perks characters' types are? (Sorry if there's already a topic for this but I didn't see one.)
The characters I'm most interested in are Charlie and Sam, but I'm curious about the other characters as well. Personally I have ideas but I don't think they fit and I think my ideas are biased on what I want them to be, so I'd rather know what you guys' ideas are first.

Perks is such a good book :)

Charlie: INFP? He's a tough one I think.
Sam: I actually have no idea. ESFx? Not sure what she is actually.

Good thread. Hopefully someone really good at typing will figure it out :D

I know, it's one of my favorite books :D I've already seen the movie in the theater once and am making plans to see it again x'D

I was thinking something along the lines of INFP for Charlie, too. Maybe ISFP, but I doubt it.

I really want to say Sam is an INFJ but that's just because I am and she's my favorite character x'D ESFx seems likely. I kind of want to say ESFJ, but I've never really tried to type characters before these so I could be way off my mark.

I could be wrong but I see Charlie as an INFJ or shy ENFJ more than INFP because he write more about other people and what they say and seems to understand how they feel than how he feels himself. It seems like other peoples thoughts and feelings bleed onto him a lot and affect how he feels about things which seems more Fe and Fi to me. Sam, seems like she'd be Fe dominant, possibly ESFJ because she seems like she sets a certain standard for how she wants her friends to behave, and looks out for their feelings. Patrick, I'm not sure. I can't type him very well. Mary Elizabeth seems more like an INFP because she has a strong set of values and knows herself very well, and likes to talk about her ideas. But she's probably more likely ENFP because she can talk extensively about her ideas without getting tired, so she's probably and extrovert. The rest I have no clue, lol

    ENTP - The Visionaries

Charlie seems like an INFJ to me. He really seems introverted (He's a wallflower keep in mind, he doesn't interact he just observes), he seems pretty intuitive based on his views on the world, he's a clear F, and he gets all of his work done on time. That's rare for a P. The INFJ is also "The protector". My experience with INFJ's is that they often care about others more than they care about themselves, which is clearly true for Charlie.
Sam makes a lot of sense as an ESFX, I want to say ESFJ though because she seems to be more involved in other people's lives than any ESFP's I've met.

    Charlie: INFJ
    Patrick: ENTP
    Sam: ENFP

My overall impressions after watching the movie twice. I am fairly sure about Charlie.

When I type movie characters, I generally go with my gut impressions. ENTP was the first type that came to mind for Patrick. Second was ENFP. However, Sam and his interactions felt like they took in information similarly but their judging functions were different.

I read the book years ago and, speaking as an INFJ myself, I wanted to strangle Charlie for being such a pussy. Most of his issues would have been solved if he simply opened his mouth.

    Simply put, I don't think he's INFJ.

That's not much of a reason for dismissing him as being an INFJ.

On the Sam debate - I haven't seen the film but read the book a little while back - I'd run with ESFJ. Patrick I agree with being an ENXP. I can't remember anything specific about him that confirms T/F.

I remember really liking his teacher. There might not be much to go on and I don't know how much screen time he gets but I could see INFJ for him, too.

Then you should read the book and then rethink these types

After watching the movie and re-reading sections....Charlie is an INFJ.

He thinks more about others than himself. He's been through a lot and I think an INFP (Or Fi dom in general...I know I'm guilty of it) would probably be more "woe is me" than shutting it out the way he does, and caring so much for others. My INFJ friend (who hasnt read the book) came out of the cinema saying "he's an INFJ right?". It seems right.

Sam struck me as an ESFJ. I can't really see her as an intuitive.

And even Patrick...watching the movie he didn't seem like an N. I'd say ESFP for him.

I haven't read the book for ages and I tend to remember movies better than books which kinda sucks.
