  1. Back in the Saddle Again

    by , 01-20-2020 at 01:48 PM
So I survived hernia surgery and I'm back at work starting today. It has been exactly 3 weeks since I was out. I have to take it easy for another 3 weeks and I should be in the clear. They actually found 3 hernias, not just the one they went in there to fix. I appear to be no worse for wear, but still a little sore, and definitely not up to 100% but heading in the right direction. Looking forward to getting back into the thick of things!

  2. Here I go again (HAPPY NEW YEAR)

So for those of you who do not know, I had intestinal surgery back in June due to being riddled with infection via diverticulitis. While they were poking around in there, they noticed I also have an umbilical hernia, meaning my intestines have poked through the muscle layer and are tangled up behind my belly button. Because it took them 7 HOURS to clean up my infected large intestine, remove a piece, and reconnect everything, they did not get to fix the hernia. I had to heal from that surgery, but ...

For the 2-3 people who manage to read this, I've recovered from my recent surgery. It took 7 hours, they removed about 2 feet of large intestine and they removed a great deal of infection as well. My lower abdomen looks like a "dot-to-dot" of robotic laparoscopic scars, but at least there's no big "stitch line" like a zipper. I feel better than I have in years. I lost about 100 pounds. I am walking and trying to eat better. Hopefully, I'll keep this up. I'm just glad to be alive. ...
  4. FYI: I'm in the middle of a health issue

Just in case anyone doesn't know. I have developed chronic diverticulitis, which is going to require surgery. It has significantly slowed my roll, and I have lost 60 pounds in the last few months. I am scheduled for surgery in about 10 days, so I may again become scarce for a while. I'll try to stop in when I can. They are going to take a piece of my large intestine out and reconnect the rest. I am hoping this will be the end of it, but it's going to be a slow recovery. I've got to spend some time ...
  5. A Hard Lesson to Learn

    A Hard Lesson to Learn

It has been more than 30 years ago since I graduated high school. In my senior year, my last semester, I needed an English credit, so I took “Creative Writing.” Now this class had prerequisites that made it impossible for a freshman or sophomore to take it. It was mostly seniors, with a few ambitious juniors, and all of those seniors were firmly in the grips of “senioritis.” We were already thinking about our plans after we graduated, and we were beginning to ...
