  1. Back in the Saddle Again

    by , 01-20-2020 at 02:48 PM
So I survived hernia surgery and I'm back at work starting today. It has been exactly 3 weeks since I was out. I have to take it easy for another 3 weeks and I should be in the clear. They actually found 3 hernias, not just the one they went in there to fix. I appear to be no worse for wear, but still a little sore, and definitely not up to 100% but heading in the right direction. Looking forward to getting back into the thick of things!

  2. Happy (Not) Anniversary

    by , 06-13-2015 at 09:30 AM
Today should have been a day of celebration: Our 16th wedding anniversary.

Well that's not going to happen. As everyone knows because I've bitched and moaned about my wife dumping me about four months ago. I will be 45 later this month and I shouldn't be facing things alone. I shouldn't have to. There were gunshots outside my apartment last night. I should be in our home. I should be in our bed. How could she leave me like this?

We were 25 when we first started dating.

  3. 100 Years Ago Today: In Flanders Field

    In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly.
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
    The torch;

  4. On The Nature of Faith and Happiness

    by , 04-18-2015 at 11:15 AM

When I bring up the notion of "faith," I suspect a great many people I know would think me to be speaking in a religious orthodoxy, or at the very least, in some sort of "New Age" philosophy sort of way. In truth, I am very much a rational skeptic and a free thinker. Most of those who adhere to the tenants of a religion are likely to label me an "atheist," because thus far, I have had no experience that would lead me to accept the existence of a "invisible

  5. The Ex-Wife Responds

    by , 03-28-2015 at 07:55 AM
I was asked by someone on here what I would suggest to anyone in a long-term relationship who wants to make it last, I gave the following suggestions:
"Pay close attention to each otherís needs and communicate what you are feeling. Do for one another not because you feel obligated, but because you love them and want them to be happy. Make time for intimacy, not just sex, but to reconnect and renew your love. Support each other as much as possible. Don't let the everyday petty tasks/chores
