Which of these does Ni do and which Ne?

So I am confusion (whoever got this: You deserve a cookie):

Some people say Ne is the one connecting dots, others say it's Ni. Some say it's Ni is seeing how things could be viewed differently and is less black and white, some say it's Ne. Some compare Ni to a spiderweb, some say that's Ne.
So which one's which? I only know for sure that Ne is broader and more about brainstorming (oh the stereotypes) and that it's good at thinking about multiple possiblities, while Ni is good at seeing one possiblity or future, but very detailed and that they have these "Aha" moments.

And what makes it even worse is that I start (again) to doubt my type although I still relate to more Ni things (I usually focus on one possiblit, but I also like to imagine a different one but I think Ne jumps around waaayyyy more). And when I doubt my type I start to read like a thousand new articles and stuff and just feel so confused idk...

TL;DR Which one is which and why are they mixed up so much?
    Thanks In Advance! :D

    They connect different dots

    Both connect dots

Imo, Ne & Se are both conceptual
So Ne imo is going to see what can be made or invented environmentally which does not exists. Your typical Inventor.
So Se imo is going to see what already exists in the environment and how it can be improved. Project Manager.

Imo, Ni & Si are both streamlined to foreseeable events
So imo Ni in theory, Ni works with indications of premonition to foresee future through its intuition and builds off that. Strategist
So imo Si in theory, Si works from experience and structure drawing off that. Enforcers

So just in theory Ne is going to invent something, Se is going to sift through and create the system, Ni is going to create the large frame work strategy, and Si will enforce.

Now Ne & Si are in axis for a reason
    Same with Se & Ni
    Same with Si & Ne
    Same with Ni & Se
It’s because with the tert or inferior function is supposed to question and nag for fuller picture with assistance of auxiliary function.
To me this is why It is critical to develop and utilize auxiliary function because it’s going to help assist in grounding dogmatic use of a dom function and discover the other tert & inferior function for well rounded growth and use.

So what makes the Ne and Ni differentiation so hard to do is their natural preference of perception. They both perceive intuitively. It's not what they see that matters, it's what they see is either hiding or missing that matters. It's how they get to perceiving the hidden pieces of the present reality that the differences become more apparent. Before I start on the differences in processes, I'd like to state that neither Ni nor Ne is possible without their sensual perception counterparts. These counterparts being Se and Si for Ni and Ne respectively.

Ni: With the presence of Se, Ni's purpose is to have it's intuition cogitate more heavily on the reality of the moment for universal meaning. Ni uses it's perception to relate reality to the universe's infinite concepts. To Ni, everything in reality is relatable and caused by a concept that is indomitable, invisible, and absolute. This why some Ni users can appear arrogant. They understand how life works conceptually, but they haven't experienced life to truly understand life as a whole. When in a mode of analysis, Ni's focus is almost transparent and transfixed on it's target. It wants to understand which overarching concept is causing the target to act how it acts. Because of this ability, Ni is an excellent problem solver. It can see the underlying faults in reality and make aspirations in the hopes of changing those faults. This is where the good ol' Ni's "aha" moments originate. But don't be deluded, Ni isn't psychic. Nor has it ever been. Ni is just really good at focusing it's conceptual understanding of reality into progression. This can lead arise to some faults as this can make Ni's sensing counterpart, Se, vulnerable and weak. Ni will always need Se because Se gives Ni the inviolable present of reality. Ni cannot relate it's know-how if it's reality-blinded. Se is Ni's glasses of reality. Overall, Ni understands the universal governments of reality but will always need Se to see which of those governments would be applicable for worldwide progression.

Ne: Ne's intuitive focus, or lack thereof, is more circuitous than Ni's focus. Ne can see the concepts that connect visually disconnected realities. With this ability, it should come to no suprise that most inventors are Ne proficient. Ne synthesizes the working concepts of reality into new possibilities. With new possibilities, comes more opportunities for more possibilities. Ne understands and revels in this fact of reality. They would feel defied if life didn't allow them the ability to create though conceptual synthesis. With the presence of Si, Ne gains the ability to withhold the information that controls their creations for later use. Si almost gives Ne creative discipline. It prevents Ne from creating random crap for the sake of Ne-gratification. It gives Ne both purpose and focus to why it wanted to create in the first place. Si is Ne's grounded parent. It's for this reason that Ne won't, and must never, work without Si. Overall, Ne will play with the conceptual possibilties that it sees in reality. However, they must keep their hands held by Si for refocus and recertification.

Did this answer your question? If it didn't, then I'll make revisions.

For what I can tell, it's more of a linguistic problem we're dealing with here. The way some describe these two functions can be rather confusing, especially because they share so many things in common.
But ultimately, as @Sensational and @Pessimissing have described (and I guess just to add to the summary and common consensus so far), Ni is more utilitarian, using the pattern recognition to work on the bigger implications of situations and realities which they can't help but to notice. While an Se dom may focus on the vitality of the moment itself, an Ni dom will tend to focus on the broader meaning of it. Ne, even though it can do that, will focus more on the impressions it got from a situation as these appear flexible and re-interpretable to them.
In theory, among all the weird lingo we're still developing to understand these two, we can get confused.
In practice, however, the distinction is much more obvious. An Ni dom vs an Ne dom is like night and day, and you'll be able to notice this quite easily.

Everyone knows Pee -wee Herman is the one connecting dots.

Most of what you mentioned above kinda applies to Ne and Ni because they are both N.

    Both can seem like spiderwebs.

I have used this analogy before and it seemed to work.

For Ni all the pieces are already there (Se), their spider web looks like a detective's pin board because they are interested in the hidden connections between things, these hidden connections will eventually lead to one conclusion, like a detective working out who did it.

Ne is a spider diagram. It often starts from one place and starts expanding from that, finding more ideas as they go often based on tangents, sometimes things like "Oh, that reminds me of this thing!" (Si). Ne isn't focused on finding the answer but all possible answers to have a rich and full idea, whether it's nonsense or not.

Do you find yourself leaning towards "This is probably what it is/will be. Whilst I might be wrong, I trust myself, it's best to prepare for this scenario" or the mentality of "But it could also be something else, here's all the potential interpretations, you can never know for sure so it's better to expect anything and deal with it when it happens."

    Thanks for all the responses!
So basically they both connect dots but Ne finds new dots to connect to the "starting dot", while Ni tries to connect existing dots to find patterns and predict new dots.

More towards Ni, I plan a LOT and I'm often lost in thoughts thinking about the future, although I don't ever deny any other possibilities but technically everyone has all functions so that should be normal I think.
