What Do Y'all Think Of Standardized Testing?

Like the title says, I'm wondering what you peeps think of this concept. Imo, I think it's a shitty idea because you can't evaluate a students entire level of education and career potential with one test. Imo, the test is designed to homogenize society and turn peeps into robots. It's also bad for teachers cause forces them to teach to the test and can put their careers in jeopardy.

It is a quick way to get a very basic assessment of a students abilities..

But the score is not super meaningful...

Standardized tests measure for a combination of basic education and IQ.

We're not supposed to use IQ tests to determine educational opportunities, employment, etc. But it's a good (not perfect) predictor of future success. So they came up with a whole bunch of "not IQ tests" that all conveniently correlate really well with IQ tests.

If you judge a fish on it's ability to climb a tree it will spend it's whole life thinking it's an idiot.

Standardized testing is bad because it encourages schools to just teach students how to take the test.

    It's great for regurgitating information.

Federal funding is often awarded to schools with student bodies that score well so there's monetary pressure to have faculty teach for the exam rather than for understanding. High-ed uses scores to judge some qualities of applicants (general intelligence, work-ethic / conscientiousness).

That paper only stats that act measure iq because it correlates with other iq tests.. but there are many studies out there that states that iq test don’t accurately measure intelligence which make this study some what moot

It's definitely an idea I hate and am opposed to. It assumes that everyone needs equal competency (with depth) in all subject areas regardless of one's natural affinity, interests / lack of interest, and actual chances of using that knowledge. For example, if you're interested in math you should not be forced to do a in-depth study of Shakespeare if you're not interested, and vice versa. Also hate how many universities have "Breadth" requirements that force you to take courses which are totally irrelevant to your major and what you're interested in. To me that's nothing but a money grabbing scheme, and money itself is a philosophical construct I struggle to accept.

It ain't a big deal to me. Helps a bit in blind spot training, if I'm not too lazy.
