This is a facet of the Enneagram theory that I feel is frequently avoided and/or undiscussed.

My question is really twofold :

1) Do you think that your dominant wing is relatively weak or strong compared to other people that share the same Enneatype and wing prefence with you? How would you describe the strength of your wing in your personality compared to your core type?

2) What's your opinon regarding people who develop both wings over time (ex : a core 4 with both a 3 and a 5 wing). Do you think it's relatively uncommon? Would a wing dominate over the other strength-wise or both would appear to be quite weak compared to the core type?

I would like to know more about wing strength myself. I believe I'm 5w4, but I can see aspects of 6 in my personality. It's made me question if I'm actually 5w6 with a 4 in my tritype or maybe just have balanced wings. I've heard of balanced wings, but have never read an in-depth description of it.

How could I know if my wing is weaker ,or stronger?
I mean 'base on what?' check-list?
ummm__I cannot tell that your T4 is stronger to weaker than my T4 ,we are just simple T4

1.2)How would you describe the strength of your wing in your personality compared to your core type?

It helps me to fly if It s heathy
,but can also pull me back it s unhealthy
(same as my core)

ummm__I notice myself using my dominant wing when I am more 'extrovert'__for example : working etc.

2.1) What's your opinon regarding people who develop both wings over time (ex : a core 4 with both a 3 and a 5 wing). Do you think it's relatively uncommon?

yep ,actually I think we are all have both wing ,but we use each of them in different situation

2.2)Would a wing dominate over the other strength-wise or both would appear to be quite weak compared to the core type?

I cannot tell about another T4 ,but my wings seem to be in the PUSH-PULL habit (a lot!) esp. when I am alone.

I think that my dominant wing is fairly strong. I have mistyped as a 3w4 for quite some time and relate to a lot of things about the type. Sometimes I don't really see it, but I've heard a few people saying that they see a lot of 3 in me.

However, I do relate a lot to type 5 as well. (I've mistaken it as my core, and I could be a 6w5 core instead of just fix.) It's just that about the combination of 4 and 5 (4w5 and 5w4) seems wrong for me based on my understanding of those types.

I've heard of balanced wings, but most people I've talked to about wings tend to lean at least a bit towards one over the other. I've seen people who switch between the two wings, although they usually end up choosing one of the two. In these cases, I'd say both wings tend to appear weak compared to the core type rather than dominating over the other one.

I can't say for sure. I've never really compared myself with other 5s. I know I'm fairly driven by safety, security, and preparedness concerns (and SP is last in my instinctual subtype stacking). I've been known to let myself spin "what-if" scenarios and have to talk myself off the ledge at times. If I care about you, there's nothing I won't do to protect you. I'm most often counter-phobic, so I'll tilt windmills to protect those I love (probably also my strong 8 trifix there).

I'd think, most likely, such a person is still probably slightly weaker in one wing than the other. We tend to not be as good at judging our own behavior patterns as we like to think. I suspect we're too close to the fire. That's why so many people struggle with nailing down their own type/subtype stack/trifix, etc.

The true exception to this is when a person has a trifix that also happens to be one of their wings. This can create the kind of confusion I suspect might mimic "balanced wings" (I once thought this way about myself, because I seem to walk between both science and technology, and arts and humanities, so easily).

You can always have influence from both wings, but you're usually going to feel the "pull" is stronger from one or the other (or, you could be a 5w6 and have 4 in your tritype, like me).

1) I don't know or care since i'm the only 4w3 that I know irl.
2) If you believe that both are developed then you may be a 4w3 that wants to be a 4w5 which is common.

I think that I'm a 5w4, but I'm first and foremost a Five. I don't feel the w4 to be very strong, but it seems to fill in the gaps where type Five descriptions don't quite fit: I show strong emotions, I value individualism and I tend to secretly prefer drama to boredom even if the drama is quite negative (but what I consider boring is probably very different than what a Four would).

I don't know if it's uncommon to have both wings, although of course I could pick some details from any enneatype to mach my personality. Also from Six. But if I don't get lost pick-and-mixing, I just don't feel that I really share the deeper motivations and fears that supposedly drive Sixes. (Maybe not even those of Fours, for that matter. I barely have one wing, definitely not two.)

No idea because I don't know anyone who is typed (besides myself).

I used to think it was rather strong, but now that I've finally settled on Sp as my primary instinct, I think that I was confusing manifestations of Sp for manifestations of the 6 wing.

I haven't read much about people doing this. Yes, I suspect that it's uncommon.

I think the strength of wings and core type depend on individual factors, but I expect that one wing would always be at least a little stronger than the other, if for no other reason than people developing one wing earlier in life and getting more practice using it.

I find it funny that I definitely think my core type is 4, after reading on Enneagram again and wavering with 4 and 6 - I thought I was a 6 for years but I'm fairly sure that was my anxiety, not my personality. So... I am still quite sure that my 6 is a 6w7, always related to the 7-wing more than the 5-wing. But am I a 4w3 or a 4w5? I don't know! I lean towards 4w3. The problem is, I keep reading on this, and sometimes it's like "wow! I am definitely a 5-wing!" and then I read another thing and it's the opposite. 4w3 sounds too extroverted to relate to at times. But 4w5 sounds too reserved about sharing their emotions. I kind of want to relate strongly to one to have something, a concrete thing to label myself with, yes, hi, this is me, this is the box I belong to, but YOU KNOW, being a four, and INFP, I do have the "humans cannot be put in boxes like this! all personality theories are incorrect!" struggle as well. I both want to relate to something and be different.

But I do think people sometimes lean towards both of the wings.
