When someone asks me to find his E-type, I usually ask him:

1- What do you avoid? (Maximum 3 answers)
    Anger
    Need
    Failure
    Ordinariness
    Emptiness
    Deviance
    Pain
    Weakness
    Conflict

This helps a lot as a first step.

2- I've found it's very important to understand how does a person feel at his worst: which are the causes that break his personality, which kind of sentiments consume him.

3- Palmer's thought about how different E-types pay attention is quite interesting. Every E-type has his own focus. There should be a topic about this in these forums.

At this point there should be enough informations to understand how to proceed (with other questions based on the previous results or not).

Sadly, Enneagram is quite hard for the beginners and it often requires a person able to introduce you to this knowledge. Once your Etype is found, you can try to make it by yourself.
Hey! I realise this post was wayyyy back so my apologies. I didn't get any notifications so thought the thread was for the most part overlooked, oops.

As for your first question, I avoid failure, weakness and conflict the most.

At my worst, where I feel most self-hate maybe or hopeless is when I haven't stood up for myself or when I am very stressed with work I don't enjoy and get stuck in a rut.

Andddd just realised I already replied to it lol, fortunately with the same answers. At least I'm consistent huh? But progress, I think I'm 7w6!

I hope you have found your Etype so you can start with your Work ;)

Your answers to what you avoid are respectively 3 8 and 9. Check out these types as well, especially 9

Some people I know I can type easily while there are others who I can never decide their type. I've read a Maitri book and will be reading Palmer next.

I still don't know what the hell my heart fix is and it can change in my signature tomorrow.

Hahaha your signature's hilarious. Yes I find enneagram types very difficult to determine because many of us to some degree experience all of the possible basic goals and fears.

Do you have any inkling as to what my enneagram is based on my posts at all?

As an XNTP leaning on the introverted side, that surprises me, but I am pretty sure of the answers that I gave. The biggest fears of the 3 are probably weakness and conflict. When I have let someone get away with making me feel in any way inferior/stupid/weak it fills me with a huge amount of self-hate and I try to build a wall of defense by shutting off emotions just so I don't have to risk feeling those negative emotions. I freeze in situations where I am facing conflict because my fight/flight response is so powerful and I feel like I wouldn't be a man if I don't confront them and give them a taste of their own medicine.

What would you attribute this to? - Enneagram wise that is.

    Thank you.
I'm new to your posts and am not an expert. I can look through and then see if I have an idea.

What makes you go with 7w6 for starters? The reasoning might give me an opinion.
E: based off of your answers earlier in here, have you looked up 8 and its wings? While I wouldn't be confident of it, you touch base of it on the fear and self hate answers.

That's exactly how I live conflict... and you can see my type :P It doesn't mean you're a 9w8 as well, but @Doge 's question requires an answer ;)

I've read the description of enneagram 8's in terms of how the drives and fears produce general traits and I can't say that I see those traits in myself. I wouldn't say I'm assertive or domineering but I'm very competitive and strive to be the best, the most confident, best at whatever I pursue. I also can be very strong-willed in physical endeavors. It's a difficult one for me though because I like to be liked and appreciated (doesn't everyone), and I'm quite sensitive to whether I've offended others in a group environment especially. I hate to see that others aren't being treated fairly but another who sees themselves as dominant or superior, I will actually put myself in a lower position or self-deprecate if I feel that it is necessary to take the attention off of someone who can't deal with criticism/mockery as well.

I also don't have the best temper and usually keep it in until it boils over and I'll say something uncalled for or hit something (not someone). I work much better when I'm angry though, angry about being constrained by deadlines, feeling weak or overpowered. I'm more tenacious and feel protected from usual anxieties, fears, etc.
