A few folks don't want to "lose control" - I get that part. Being so drunk/high as to piss one's pants or have no idea as to what is going on is hardly an experience for me. However, there are some substances that can produce pleasant effects and not render the user incapable of free will or motor functioning. @Reap you can still maintain objective & rational thinking while stoned on weed - at least that is my subjective POV ;)

Curious question for my ignorance: What exactly does being stoned do? It apparently does not impair thinking or ovjectives. I never tried weed, never will, so I am relying on your input.

What do you think about long term use and claims around it impacting motivation as well as people getting into more accidents on 4/20 than other days of the year as well as showing a rise in marijuana friendly states?

Note this isn't a topic I have an opinion either way on because I'm aware that much of the current knowledge we have is still in that stage where it can be debated or may even be agenda-pushing.

I just want to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Personally, I wouldn't like to smoke pot for social reasons. I know a few potheads that have really messed up their lives. But I also know those who use it in moderation and have been able to be functional members of society.

For me, it boils down to "Why take the chance?"

Of course, I would want to try weed someday, but I will not break a law to get it because I'm an immigrant and the last thing I need is any kind of fuck up that messes that for me.

Y'know, people act like celebrating Hitler's birthday is a bad thing, but Christianity is responsible for far more deaths, and people still celebrate Jesus' birthday.
So good on you for not being ashamed!

There is very little I am ashamed of. Posting this meme proves it:

@Reap @Bolderousness I will reply to your questions a bit later. Have to go hit the bong.

Meme didn't show on my end.
Hope you enjoy hitting the bong with your kids. Nice family bonding experience.
If I may ask a question though, was your own mother a user? If it was common to wake up to a mother passed out from some form of addiction, it explains why so many of your posts are divided between "I sacrifice so much for my kids!" and "DRUGS DRUGS DRUGS!!!!"

[Note this isn't intended as criticism, but merely an observation]

an observation? Are you in my house right now stalking me? Am I with my kids right now? Are they awake? How do you know such things, sir? Do you have special xray vision into my life? Inquiring minds want to know.

Plus, I was really just kidding about the bong. I smoked a joint instead. It was quite uplifting especially since I was able to lock the kids in the closet while I puffed that doob cheech and chong style, you know... I didn't even hear them screaming. It was great.
Hey, c'mon, give me a break about the sacrificing things for my children. Of course I do - why do you think I smoke weed here and there?

My mother rarely smoked weed. The drugs that the psychiatrists prescribed were/are far better engineered to mess with the mind than anything poor mother nature could produce by herself. SSRIs, MAOIs, GJL D.MDFMAD;LFKDL;FK Pretty sure she had them all. Several attempts to take her own life while I was a kid. So far no paramedics have come to revive me from overdose, so I'll take that one to the weed bank any day. I am not claiming any superiority here, just that the "dangers" of marijuana are grossly overstated, exaggerated and embellished, esp the whole "think of the children" argument.
You are smarter than to fall for the reefer madness of yesteryear - not meant to be a criticism, just an observation.

For those who have not ingested cannabis @Bolderousness , what you will experience is basically a relaxed state, where time does not move at the same rate as when you're not high.. your senses are in HD. Food tastes better, music sounds better and touch is more sensual. Creativity increases and the "noise" subsides. You will laugh a lot.
Some people have claimed hallucinations however I have never once hallucinated, so this may be down to the individual.
When the high subsides, you can get a bit tired and it helps to fall and stay asleep. In the morning you do not experience hangover or fatigue so it's a great way to help degenerate alcoholics go to work and become productive members of society.
@Reap I can understand your reasons and when a time comes that you can do what you want without threat of punishment, well, there are a lot of resources out there to guide you along. The first time may be a bit overwhelming if you take more than necessary (which is, btw, 1 or 2 puffs MAX for a first time or occasional user - it's not a greedy drug like much of the other shit out there and dependency takes a long time to build). But even if you take too much, well, it will pass without any harm. You get to choose whether or not you want it again.

Hmmm. Interesting. It kind of sounds like an Se "high" I experience when I'm in the zone.

The "best" non natural state I've experienced is deliberate ODing on alprazolam about 6-7 years ago. Used to make me feel like I'm close to death but not really. The opposite of what I naturally feel with regards to being ever-present.

    I wouldn't mind experiencing that again but I won't.

I'll try weed at some point but if it just more of what I already experience then it might have limited use for me.

Weed has a range of effects. Different plants give different "buzzes". Also, there is a major difference between smoking it, and eating it.

Smoking weed generally heightens senses. Things taste better, music is richer, sex is better, etc. You have an increase in appetite since it's a stimulant. But even though it's a stimulant, bloodflow is increased since muscles are relaxed. You do become very thirsty, and the white of your eyes become red. While your balance is good enough to function, you notice that it's not perfect. Generally speaking, buzzed on weed makes you very prudent and low-key, and so drivers that are high have the tendency to drive slowly. You become a lot more creative. One downside of the buzz is that you might get a little paranoid. If it's not legal to consume where you are, that paranoid state might kill the buzz. The high lasts between 30mins to 1h, peaking at 10-15 mins, and then there is down period of about 1-2hours. Personally, I liked the down periods too. Unlike alcohol or other stimulants, the liver isn't used to filter "the poison". Humans don't get affected by weed much because we've evolved along side it. It's illegality is new relative to the time span humans have had with plants growing in the wild.

I don't smoke, but there were health benefits that I can vouch for. It reduced my migraine frequency. It helped me lose weight because of the increased appetite. Besides that, weed is used for other medical purposes that you can google.

The plant itself, hemp, is great for making clothing. (and paper?) The seeds are high in protein.

The reason why it's illegal is illogical, since weed is far from being as bad as cigarettes and alcohol. That said, if you were in the alcohol business, you'd probably want weed to be illegal.
