I hate it when the ASPCA plays commercials about abused animals. It's too much. I can't look at those animals in the eyes and see the hurt and sadness there. I have to change the channel or I'll end up in tears.

That one was brutal! This isn't a TV commercial but the pics about abused babies on FB. Come on! You're killing me people!

The ASPCA commercials pissed me off so much that I actually wrote a letter and sent it about how while I agree with their cause, to help animals who have been abused and tortured, that their commercials offend me so deeply that I cannot and will not support them (i.e paying them to bombard me with these horrible images), and if not for those commercials, I would be a regular financial contributor to their organization, which is true, I regularly donate to other animal aid causes because they're near and dear to my heart, and am trying to reorganize my school and work schedule to allow me to volunteer at a local no-kill shelter weekly.

I also sent a letters to a couple of the channels who played those commercials excessively, explaining that because I couldn't get through an hour of viewing without seeing two or more of these awful commercials, that I would no longer be watching their channel, or any of the shows they air because I refuse to pay someone to force those images down my throat on a regular basis.

I doubt my letters did anything (I've yet to flip to any of the channels I sent letters to since I sent them), but I feel the companies should know that their behavior lost them a financial contribution or viewer, respectively. If enough people sent letters explaining that the commercials in question (being the ASPCA commercials or otherwise) are, or at least are threatening to lose them money and viewers, I think something would be done.

I agree with you. I think they have good intentions, but are doing it the wrong way. I hate how they toy with people's emotions like that. The way they run their commercials are more of a threat than an awareness. It's like "You don't want these poor animals/children to die right? So send us money or else they will and it'll be your fault." People should help out of the kindness of their hearts, not by some guilt-tripping advertisement.

I might as well send a letter too! Why not start a petition?

With those kinds of commercials at worst I'm only slightly bothered by them. Most of the time I'm more or less indifferent. The cause is worthy, it's just that I don't really feel emotionally manipulated.
