    Black is really flattering and natural for Winters and also for Bright Springs, though they look better in slightly softer black or contrasting patterns including black (like black and red, black and orange). But for many other Springs black may be also pretty good, and because black is popular for clothing in our culture, many Springs are tempted to wear black even though it's not their best colour. Also Dark Autumns look better in almost black colours, but not deep black.

    If soft colours aren't good, take a look at clear seasons - Spring and Winter. Light Summer also have somewhat clear colours - they are not very muted.

    so I wonder, is it possible for me to be a Soft Summer even thought i have dark hair, med-brown eyes and pale skin?

    I don't look amazing in black and I look particular bad in orange, orange bring out the violet-ness of me.

    There are 16 seasons meanwhile. I'm a Deep Winter Soft.
    @mrkedi
    Yes, would be possible, especially if you don't look good in black.

    Yes, it is. Any type can have dark hair and brown eyes.
    Soft summer looks best in muted colours that are close to neutral, but more on cool side. Bright, pure colours (including stark white and deep black) or very warm colours won't look good. Soft, but slightly warmer colours may look pretty good, but not best.

    It's actually a different system, on somewhat different basis. Each to their own, I prefer Sci/Art (12 subtypes) system, it's approach to colour, undertones and rich palettes appeal more to me than more monochromatic 4x4 and added white/black/grey approach to colour. But some people find 4x4 more suitable for the same reasons I dislike it. :)

    How do I start? D:
    I know I have a cool skin tone, so if I follow the charts just based on that, my hair and eye colour, I'd get Deep Winter. Would it be accurate, though?
    I mean I guess I could always try to wear clothes of different colours but I never know if I look good or bad in them

    Warm and Deep Autumn. Tho not that much accurate.

    Sounds like I'm a Clear Winter with my coloring, though I don't wear makeup.

    I don't recommend following the charts. You may try on various colours, so called self-draping. It's not as hard as it may seem, you just need good light and patience. If you do it at home you may do it as many times as you want, there's no hurry. Sometimes people find it hard to see the difference at first, but finally you should be able to see which colours make you appear generally better and healthier and which one are to avoid. Very often you end up with 2-3 possible subtypes, which is good sign. With time it's easier to observe which subtype is best.

    With cool skin tone you may be any type of Summer or Winter.
