I grew up camping and hiking, and love canoeing. What about you?

Where are your favorite places to go to camp or hike or rock-climb or canoe/kayak?

Have any interesting experiences - rescuing your food from hungry bears, falling down when repelling, etc.?

Feel free to post pictures of places where you have camped/hiked...and tell us what you loved about them.

I don't have any really interesting stories, but I love to camp. I don't have any pictures either, but that should change next month. I'm going camping around central Missouri. I'll post some pictures afterward. :)
I used to go camping at least 8 times a year, but lately it's been hard to go that much. I have to wear a leg brace now, and it makes things a tad bit harder.

I love hiking! I do most of my hiking in the Canadian Rockies. Particularily, Banff and Jasper National Parks. I think that my most memorable hiking experience took place on Iceline trail in Glacier National Park, British Columbia. I got up really high on the trail and took a break. I said "Thank you" to whatever it was I was trying to pray too and that was the first time I had a spiritual experience. Where I could feel that feeling of "oneness" or "connectedness". For the first time my prayer had a feeling too it rather than just feeling like I was talking into the air.

I haven't done a back packing trip in a long time mainly because I have a difficult time finding people with the same interest. I always seem to be moving. I am thinking that I should join a club and just do it. I always seem to say this and never get around to it or move. Guess I need to settle down. Use to do back packing trips as a teenager with the Duke of Edinburgh program. Great memories.

I have only tried lake kayaking and really enjoyed it. I think it would be really amazing if I did this on a scenic lake! Would love to buy a kayaka but have no place to put it. I can't wait to go out hiking to Jasper National Park in Alberta again this summer. I love to find an isolated area and read my book out there.

As for climbing, I've only ever tried a rock wall. Some day my goal is too live in the mountains. Love everything about them! Happy trails everyone!

@Kriash - I want to see your pictures after you get back!!!

@lifeisanillusion - I was up on a business trip a few hours from Banff a couple of years ago but the trip was rushed so we couldn't go to the mountains. But my coworkers got to go to Jasper National Park and I saw some of their pictures. Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous! It definitely would be fun to live in the mountains....or in a little cabin seated at the foot of the mountains.

Certainly would be nice to live in the mountains or even closer to them!

Oh man! I love ALL of the things you listed, and I want to go crazy and tell lots of stories, but I'd end up all over the place.

    Instead I'll say:
I feel so proud of the callouses on my hands from climbing. Yes!

I went hiking in South Korea (I was just back packing through there) and they're CRAZY about hiking there! All the old retired ladies climb mountains daily (usually the same trails). 60-80 year old women were kicking my ass!! The hikes were really difficult in some places too - you'd be well... basically bouldering to get past certain areas, or you would end up having to climb over cables/huge boulders. Yeow!

I typically hike in the Canadian Rockies, by comparison.

Here's a couple pictures from South Korea! :D

So, I moved to New England this year from Texas, and so now I'm surrounded by mountains, which means, hiking! Anyway, so I'm gonna post (in chronological order) a few of the big ventures I've been on.

2008 - I went to visit my friend in Alaska, and we went kayaking, and hiking. :D Awesome adventure. It is best summed up in a video.

(in the kayaking pics, I'm the one in the maroon hoodie)

2009 - Road trip, including Palo Duro Canyon and Enchanted Rock.

    (orange one)

    2010 - Fishing/Camping trip in KS (I caught a HUGE fish!!!)

2010/11 - Start the hiking in Seven Sisters / Holyoke range.

Hope to do more this coming fall!
