What personality type do you beleive McCain and Obama possess?

I believe that McCain is a ESTP because he tends to have strong beliefs in what is right and what is wrong. He has a do it and get it attitude which estp possesses.

Obama I believe is an ENTP - The visionary. He is less interested in developing plans and he would rather envision ideas and apply it to real life. I believe that he is willing to take risk in order to acheive his ideal society.

    What do you guys think?

i read an article about this in Slate back in february. it compares mccain, obama and clinton - but then i completely forgot about it. i'm curious what others have to say, as far as guesses. i'm really bad at that kind of conjecture. i've studied astrology for years, for example, but am generally wrong when someone asks me to guess their sign. (i tend to guess their moon sign or ascendant, it seems - i've tested that - but still. it's embarrassing.)

i swear i read another article, though, which went into edwards' type as well. i can't find it now. the reason i recall it is i had a question about whether or not introverts could become president, and as i recall edwards and lincoln had the same type. i'll keep looking for it.

looking back over the descriptions, i am reminded of the trouble i had figuring out my own type. heh. it seems that i can see ES for mccain and EN for obama, and beyond that i can apply the descriptions of all the f/t and p/j parts to them to a greater or lesser extent. i don't know them well enough to make a call.

very interesting is this - in relation to guessing about personality types.

obama and mccain just appeared at a charity dinner where they were the guest speakers - and they roasted each other. although the jokes are, of course, written by speechwriters - i think watching the delivery of them - and the listening to them by the other candidate - might give a bit of a clue about their respective personalities, if not their personality types.

i have to admit, john mccain was much funnier. i think he's got stewart and colbert writers on his payroll. it seemed obama, though, was simply more afraid of saying the wrong thing.

(we're gonna have to have a talk about how these embedded videos mess up the flow of my posts ... <pouts>)

here's a bit about the dinner, which raises money for healthcare and children.

Great article psyche. I am also horrible at telling and guessing each persons personality. However, I get these "feelings" when I talk to people one on one. I usually profile each individual based on how they speak to me.

A great way of telling their type of personalities is by looking at their past and present life. McCain is a war veteran who was captured and tortured in Vietnam. That was probably the highlight of his past. He was probably traumatized by that experience. I trust McCain more because his past speak for themselves.

When I take a look at Obama's past, I see strange behavior. He joins a racist church and his friendship with a terrorist is quite appalling.

If you take a look at a video that was posted on youtube...

The guy just wanted to take a picture with him, but he refused to do so. His attitude is very inconsistent, one minute he is the charming guy who has the potential to lead a country, the next he is a "jerk" to people that just wanted to take a picture with him. I don't know the whole story about that though, so I can't judge his actions.

He is also a hypocrite. He believes that gay marriage is wrong, but when his mother (a white) and a his father (a black) married in a time of racism, everyone thought that was wrong. We shouldn't judge people by their ideals but by their actions. He is only saying these things to win the election because we American's know for a fact that most of the voters are against gay marriage.

I don't know why, but their is something really strange about Obama's attitude. With that said, I would rather have him as president because it seems that he is more for the middle class rather than the fat cats at Wall St.

Haha. Finally, debates are over and its time to let the American people vote. With that said, the two can have a vacation until one of them becomes president of our country. Anyways, that was a funny clip.

To post a video in our forums, all you have to do is post the url of a youtube video and it will automatically convert it into a media player. :)

thanks for the explanation - i realized that after i posted. now i've just got to figure out how to get the title right. heheh.

i was really interested in this thread, as a theoretical discussion. i guess it could easily turn into a "who would make a better leader" thread, but the question of MBTI as it relates to major world leaders is fascinating.

from what i could tell from the video - and i dunno if it was my streaming or the video quality - it seemed that there was a reason obama didn't want to take a picture with that particular guy. he was explaining something about "kids" ... i dunno. what was the reason he refused to take the picture?

as a fan of eminem, i've kinda grown to understand that celebrities can be touchy about their persons, just like anyone else. maybe it was bad judgment. maybe it was a bad day.

Ah yes. Very sorry for going off topic. I would also like to know what others think about both of these candidates personalities.

Your right. Like I said, I don't know what happened so I can't judge him for that.

    you people are stupid

    mccain intp

    obama enfp

what makes you think "you people" are stupid? and what makes you think mccain is an intp? i'm still thinking about that "introvert as president" thing.

oddly, you both typed mccain differently in the aspects that (to me) seem more obvious to call. how can you mistake an intp for an estp? which traits to they share?
