Yes, High Fructose Corn Syurp is an Artificial Sweetener and Yes, It Is Bad For You

I'm cross-posting something similar to what I posted in the Coke vs. Diet Coke vs. Coke Zero thread, because it concerns me that so many people have believed the lies than hfcs is the same as sugar. It's simply a matter of misinformation.

Princeton scientists have proven in 2010 that high fructose corn syrup is more dangerous than sugar, and for anyone who is trying to argue that it's somehow more "natural" than diet sweeteners, that's a load of crap, because hfcs is an artificial sweetener that was invented in the late 1950's. HFCS is NOT natural, and it can be linked to excessive weight gain resembling that of people with a metabolic disorder, as well as loosely being linked to diabetes and possibly cancer:

Scientific Evidence Supporting the Dangers of High-Fructose Corn Syrup

The corn sellers began making commercials claiming HFCS was almost the same as sugar, because of the similar number of calories, but their claims are bogus, just because they want you to keep buying their product. These people have become outrageously wealthy over HFCS which is in EVERYTHING.

Yeah, I don't understand how they can make those claims in the commericials, to me it seems like false advertising.

Fructose IS a naturally occurring sugar. Saccharin, aspartame etc are not. However, HFCS contains fructose at freakishly high concentrations by way of some (enzymatic tricks) and the body degrades/utilizes fructose differently than sucrose or glucose. Personally I avoid the purely artificial sweeteners, having spent WAY too much time at cancer clinics and in chemo rooms, preferring to get my sweets in their natural state, meaning fructose as it occurs in fruits or honey, not as it gets doctored for processed foods. The link below explains it pretty well.

Yes, HFCS contains glucose and fructose, but it is an artificial sweetener, it was invented in the 1950's. I mean, aspartame contains potassium, it's not like this stuff is entirely inedible but they aren't naturally occurring sweeteners like raw sugar and honey.

I've consumed a great deal of no calorie sweeteners in my life, and I'm basically moving away from that because of the chemicals - and away from HFCS and trans fat, and less processed meats (bacon, hot dogs, et al).

There's no quick fix, I think, when it comes to health. If you have an overall healthier diet where you eat less processed foods, that's better than going on an Atkins crash diet or trying to negate the calories in your processed fast food with a diet soda.

Diet soda really is the most difficult thing for me. HFCS and trans fat are much easier for me to avoid.
