    What were your first words?

What was the first word you ever said? What was the first full sentence? Feel free to explain or give an idea about the context in which you said it if it is interesting or relevant. I'm just curious.

What wonder, to be able to remember such. I wish I could. I think it would be a special memory.

I would not have posted here with this simple 'I don't know,' but it reminded me of the cutest thing that happened today. I was getting lunch, and I was sitting near a family eating together--a man, his toddler daughter, and I assume the little girl's grandparents. She was evidently just beginning to learn language; I had not heard her speak, so I assumed she still could not talk.

However, when I leaned a certain way so that she could see me (I guess I'd been hidden previously), she pointed at me and said "Daddy!" It was so cute! Of course, her father didn't think so at first, he said gruffly, "No, he's not daddy, I'm daddy." I know it hurt his feelings a little bit! But it was so cute. I was overwhelmed by such sweetness, I couldn't keep from smiling. And I even smiled at the dad, I couldn't help it!, because his little girl was so cute. And I guess he saw how genuinely warmed my heart had been by the sweet innocence of his daughter, because he couldn't help but beam the widest smile back at me, after the moment of his jealousy had warn off, a smile of paternal joy at the tenderest beauty that he helped create, that was a part of him.

I guess as one who's studied linguistics, I knew what the little girl was doing, she was experimenting, seeing what people would tell her if she called me 'daddy.' She could tell that her father and I had something physically in common--we were both adult males--so she wanted to see if the name she gave her father applied to me as well. And she found out that it certainly did not! Aww, my heart could have melted, you guys. Oh! I hope I get to be a dad someday

According to my parents my first word was "WoW" and the first sentence I used was "Okay, so if I connect this block to this hole and then use this shirking ray it should fit. Stop looking at me, yes I know that I could just put it in the correct hole but where is the fun in that?"

Honestly, I don't think anyone knows what my first sentence was. It was probably "Shut the hell up" or "You're an idiot" I use both of them often and I hear that the first sentence you use supposedly sticks with you and you will use it a lot. To prove this fact most people say something like "I love you *insert someone ... mostly parents*" and then say that a lot for the rest of their lives. I don't really use to phrase "I love you" a lot.

I can't remember what my first word was but it was probably something that would help me get food since I was a very hungry baby.

    "Food"

Yep, that about sums it up.

Hm, I don't remember my first words :( I don't think my parents wrote 'em down, either.

I'm trying to test a hypothesis here. Just humor me, if you would, folks.

Quite intellectual of you. You must have been the smartest baby in the world.
