"Ex-Incels Explain What Made Them Change and Leave The Incel Movement - AskReddit"

I thought this was interesting because of most of these responses seem to come down to a lack of self-awareness of how they are behaving and the perspectives and assumptions they have.

Which raises the question, is there a way to actually make someone self-aware of something where it is lacking?

Specifically if we feel the need to change someone's behaviors that we see as problematic (like the "nice guy" behavior). Is there a way to do that, really? Or do they have to be in a certain mindset in the first place to be able to get to that point -- a mindset that no one else has control over?

I think in a lot of cases it's just maturity. Incels are raised on these expectations that they can expect to find love and have sex with a hottie, based on what Hollywood portrays.

I think as these people get older they realize 1) women have standards too and 2) there is a reason they are unpopular (bad hygiene or at least fashion sense, narrow interests, they dominate conversations, etc).

I think a lot of the incel guys are on the spectrum to be honest. When you're autistic it's hard to see yourself the way others see you so even if you're a self-conscious and anxious person you might find it hard to adjust your appearance and behavior in a way most people find attractive.
