    Seeing Food as Other Objects

Not sure if this is the right forum, but I'll put it here for now.

Ever since I was little, I've often associated food with objects or even animals that won't necessarily put me off eating the food (It's only when I'm eating the food in question does this particular association occur and even then, not all of the time), but will make me feel a bit sick or not hungry.

Take for example mashed potatoes. I needed a lot of operations as a kid due to being partly deaf (To insert grommets/t-tubes, which are like hearing aids implanted inside the ear) and as a child, you get that horrible emla cream on the back of your hand (I would always never dare move the hand with it on, and could barely look at it). Since I was a kid, I've never liked the sight of mashed potato and prefer potatoes to be solid (although I have had mashed potato a few times).

Other occurances of this are thinking of noodles/other stringy foods as worms or tapeworms (another thing I hate is stringy food when it doesn't have to be, like stringy cheese on a pizza or stringy bits of sinew in meat), rice as maggots and even white bread/buns as bandages.

I don't see the food literally as tapeworms or maggots, and I know that the food is just food.

    Anyone else have these associations?

    Wow this is so strange.

All I got is I used to shove fruits and vegetables and noodles up my nose really far >.<

haha yeh. When i was little eating rice or cereal, i would imagine there being maggots inside of it and i wouldn't even know the difference because of the texture/color, so i would eat way too slowly :P

Nah. I have seen other objects as food sometimes when I was really hungry though.

That's really a weird one. Nothing to be ashamed of though. I can only imagine what it would be like, at every meal, having to put these thoughts to the back of my mind before eating. But Your alive and I'm assuming not malnourished for your fingers carry strength enough to write. Glad to see you have been able to cope with it.

I this makes me wonder what things would be like if you saw maggots as rice or a badgers as juicy pot roasts. I would think that this would end up being a terrible case, leading to plenty of stomach pumping sessions and skin graph operations.
