    Opposite Sex Avatars

I figured I'd make a thread on people who use members of the opposite sex as their avatars.

For those of you who don't use members of the opposite sex in their avatars, what do you think of the people who do?

For those of you who do use them, why do you use them?

When I post in forums and am not using a picture of myself, I usually prefer to use a female avatar. There aren't many famous men I can identify with, other than athletes maybe. And even then, I don't like to feel like I'm living vicariously through someone else.

And it's not that using pics of other men makes me feel gay -- I actually feel more feminine when I use a female avatar (except for the "2 girls 1 cone" avatar, which made me feel like more of a badass). In a way it helps me to soften my image a little, since on forums I can often come across as more intimidating than I do IRL.

I mostly use inanimate objects for my avatars on forums, but I do suppose a crown could stereotypically be associated with a king rather than a queen.

I'm not bothered by those who choose to use icons of the opposite sex. It doesn't strike me as hinting anything to their character, but that usually depends on the content - if it's a woman or man in a very provocative pose, for example, I may consider that person to be more inclined to sexual interests. In other situations, however, I think it's a pleasant surprise to find someone who uses such icons. It's a fresh change.

I used to have female avatars, but then I needed to harden my image. To accomplish this feat, I chose the likes of James Tiberius Kirk who exudes masculinity out of his pores.

    Great idea.

I wanna answer this one anyways.
Me myself, I do not think one is a guy only because he has a guy as ava. Same goes for people with chicks as avas.
It's an avatar. People don't necessarily pick a picture because there is a person of the same sex on it. They pick it because of the image as whole; because it reflects their personality somehow.
I am actually pretty good at reading avatars. So I don't just assume that "Person with guy = guy; person with girl = girl". =3

I use Dean all the time. I might change the picture, but it is and will always be him. Why? Because I can identify pretty much 100% with him. And whoever has seen Supernatural and knows me a bit will agree and see the parallels.
I however love when people think I am a dude, only because I have a dude as an avatar. It's a bigass compliment for me, seeing I am not the girly kind of chick. One of the things people say the most to me is: "Okay so you do look like a chick, no doubts at all there. But on the inside you are totally a dude".

I mostly link the following things with my avatar (and Dean):
Smartass; kickass; badass; boyish / male; witty; sarcasm; strenght; fight-spirit; protector; doer; problem-solver; fun; orgasmic music; not showing weakness.
Those and a whole load more of stuff, which - in my opinion - fits me.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that while most of the people here know I'm male, there have been a few that thought I was female . . . and everyone who thought I was female was arguing with me about something!

And I was surprised that no one who thought I was female tried to hit on me! If I saw someone on the forum who I thought looked like Blake Lively or Leighton Meester, that would be the first thing I would do!

Well I think it's obvious why I have someone of the opposite sex in my avatar (as well as in my signature).

Nah, it's actually because I like wearing skirts and making my hair all pretty.

You're not a woman?? Well heck, here I've gone a week on here thinking that you were.

Anyways, I hardly ever use people in my avatars. But I decided to this time, just because I have a huge obsession with Gerard Butler, and seeing Law Abiding Citizen just made matters worse.
