Because the 90's were awesome. lol. I think it was really the first time that so much was marketed towards kids.
I remember going to the theater and seeing The Little Mermaid. Beauty and the Beast. Aladdin. (So, like, Disney's renaissance). The Lion King. <JTT's voice! That was a thing. lol. Thinking of that... teen bop magazines, boy bands... Nickelodeon... it was like we were taking over and the world existed just for us. A lot of it was pure commercialism, but it was fun, and when you're a kid you don't know any better. Plus, a bunch of us had cool, kinda hippie parents from the 60's-70's who were happy to spoil us with it all. (Which was sorta sad, because a lot of the 90's were about blaming your parents and adults for everything, since you know, we were taking over... though I wonder if that were more a spill over of their own generation. Well I don't wonder, it had to have been. I mean they were ultimately behind it all. Which is maybe slightly masochistic, lol, but it makes sense, given that their own parents were starting all these wars and crazy ish).
The economy was good, there was enough diversity to keep things edgy, exciting, accepting to a degree, but enough common values to keep us unified. There was enough technology to keep us connected, but it was limited enough that we were all basically on the same page and experiencing the same things more or less - so we can relate to the same nostalgia.
And then the 2000's were maybe the most epic decade in terms of a technology boom. We lived through a transition from landlines to cell phones, the evolution of the internet, the start of social media... all during pivotal and very impressionable times in our lives. It bonds people.
I was saying this elsewhere on the forum, but life just seems kinda boring after all that now.
