Answer it in the poll

None of them

Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West in rap, definitely. To Pimp A Butterfly by KL and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye are two of the most acclaimed rap albums in history. I'd go as far as to say Kendrick is "the voice of a generation"

Frank Ocean is def a highlight

I'd say Lorde is the most promising young alternative pop artist, and David Bowie himself called her the "future of music"

Arcade Fire and Car Seat Headrest are saving indie rock

I think Lana Del Rey will be remembered in the future as a 2010s icon

Your post should be applauded publicly as truth. I'm not being sarcastic, I mean you had the grace to mention Lorde, Arcade Fire and Lana Del Rey and none of the people the OP mentioned. I keep seeing that Ariana Grande "God is a Woman" mag cover in my local book store and think "nothing good will ever come from this, not from it being said, and especially not from this particular person saying it."

Hard to say. Depends on what part of the 2010's you're talking about.
Early? Lady GaGa, maybe Ke$ha. Or Katy Perry. A bit later? Most likely Taylor Swift or Imagine Dragons. Mid 2010s? I have no clue. You see? It depends what part of the decade you mean.

i feel like we've been transitioning through artists throughout this decade.
it was supposed to be bieber's decade but he got tired of hollyweird and the fetishes he had to entertain.
bruno mars seems too easily forgettable
ed sheeran maybe? i think there's people better than him but they won't ever get the airtime so it's a crapshoot.

nikki minaj was all over the place with her sound, beyonce wasn't exactly prevalent, taylor swift only got airtime after the kanye incident...and a bunch of other ladies are really just remix and sample fodder for the next 2 decades like ellie goulding or adele.

rap hasn't been much better, i guess one could say it's been competitive with the likes of drake, kendrick and j cole battling for top honors in the community, but there's competition from old heads regaining some of their shine and the new blood that just keeps on keeping on.

pop rock maybe? imagine dragons seem to be hitting waves i never thought they would but they only came into the periphery in 2015 so hardly owned the decade.

tentative prediction on jaden smith having lil wayne levels of anonymity through 2020-30

Definitely MGMT:

Everything about it- boho, emo... that was when Etsy was rocking it.. And food truck fads. People dressed up all emo racing to the next venue.

Probably the last time an official public fad died out. Now it's all ASMR. Seeing a trend here.. maybe the pedulum will swing to something else more entirely different next? Imax rides??

I really think Beyonce defined this decade. She was riding high off of Single Ladies from 2009 I think. Her album after that wasn't as popular, but when she dropped her self-titled album that was huge and then she released Lemonade in 2016. She's been talked about everywhere and her star is shining brightly. Idk. I'm not a huge Beyonce fan, but she's really come to prominence in the last decade. She was popular before, but now she's like a megastar.

The first half, yeah.

I would say that people like Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande definitely will be remembered as huge phenomenons in mainstream pop culture and music, just because of how they presented themselves in the media and changed in their music style over the years.
Of course, teen/ bubblegum-pop heartthrob acts like Justin Bieber and One Direction will be remembered (less because of their music, and more because of their insane fandoms). Rap artists like Drake, Kendrick Lamar (and several others) will be surely remembered for their several hits (how they were played at literally every school event).

I would also like to point out the international spread of K-pop as a part of the Korean Hallyu wave, specifically in the Western Hemisphere (with acts like BTS and Blackpink) within the last couple years/ second half of the 2010s. Their breaking records are proving how music truly breaks racial and cultural barriers.

So it's impossible to draw out ONE specific artist that stands out, as there are so many under various genres. But IMO it would have to be someone who drew in the attention of various demographics and who greatly changed the music landscape.

To me some of the best musicians never topped the charts. A lot of great rock bands that fill up stadiums and arenas never had a number 1 hit, so hits don't equal staying power and influence.

Kendrick Lamar is a good choice, but so is Lana Del Rey who hasn't had a US number 1 hit. I think Ariana is extremely talented with her actual vocal ability and even vocal impressions, so I will vote for her to pick one from the list. For rock fans I think the Struts have probably dominated this last decade.

I already know that I live under a rock and have been highly indifferent to mainstream music during my mid/late 20s. But, Taylor Swift, Nikki Minaj, and Ariana Grande seem to be the only people I'm aware of and still seem relevant to this day. My high school years (2007-2011) were the last time I've heard many people rave over people like Justin Bieber, Drake, One Direction, and Maroon Five. I'm not too familiar with Future.
