Since we are half way through this decade how do you feel about it? Do you love it or hate it? Personally I like this decade and I think its better than the 2000s. I will admit that I was not a big fan of the pop music of the late 2000s/early 2010s (early electropop, Black Eyed Peas/Lady Gaga/Katy Perry/Justn Bieber Era) however since like 2013 It seems like music is improving. Though it still has a long way to go so I am sort of undecided for music. However it seems like everything else I enjoy, TV Shows, Movies, Technology, Video Games, Fashion (I thought the 00s were a very bland decade for fashion, I notice the 10s are starting to have an identity which I love), and so many other factors. Plus it seems like since the beggining of this year the economy has been pretty stable, will it last unfortunately if we are to follow history probably not but lets hope for the best! Anyways how do you guys think about this?

To keep with the theme of the site, it's probably a great decade for a type 4-5-9 INFP, but not a good decade for a 7-3-1 ESTP. It's too sterile and mellow for me.

A lot of cool new technologies and scientific breakthroughs though. And as unpleasant as a of the stuff happening on the global scene is, I can say this: It ain't boring.

Edit: Damn, I meant to click undecided. How do I change my vote?

I think the 2010s have been pretty cool, Not everything has been perfect but which decade is perfect? Anyway we've had alot important people/events that have happened this decade like the catching of Osama Bin Laden, Boston Bombing, Selfies, Travon Martin killing, Michael Brown killing, The Obama Adminstration, Adam Lanza shooting, Dark Knight Rises premere shooting, The Walking Dead, Increase of Social Media, Superhero films, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, Miley Cyrus, Drake, Blurred Lines song, Imagine Dragons, Bullying awareness, etc, etc. So by the end of the 2010s this should be considered a good decade and all of us GenZers will be in our early 20s.

honestly saying its much betterthan 2000s. I dont care people who hate 2010s. Unlike 00s, this decade have an strong identity, edm music, skinfit fashions, hi-tech video games, astonishing technological breakthroughs, etc.
I too agree that early 10s had horrible music. Now its getting better.

for me late 2000s is betterthan early 2010s in music. 2011 is the horrible year for music. Genres like rave, indie, trance, alternative rock, etc are better in late 00s. I dont like miley cyrus, pitbull, Nikki minaj, etc. i love late 00s justin beiber songs (i dont care haters).

me, eh

Personal wise it has gotten alot better. I graduated from high school and everything is going smoothly so far .

Pop-culture wise , I feel like its just rehashes of other generations. with 80s nunuwave going on in my opinion . I have never heard anything new this year , but so far most of it has been a rehash of the late 00s only with a small 80s influence( the 2000s had 70s influence but it was not that showy as of now ) .

Negatives: orrible politicians, orrible central bankers, orrible music, orrible tv shows, people still believe in magic/astrology/ (two centuries of Enlightenment almost wasted), still enourmous inefficient resource allocation (world hunger, poverty...).

Positives: Very good technological progress and important breakthroughsin science.

Mark me down for undecided. I'm not the best at following trends, and it's too easy to remember the negative current events compared to positive ones. Not only do we need the 2010s to play out, we need to separate ourselves from the decade to really evaluate it.

Military training is teaching soldiers that "the founding fathers were terrorists."

Schools are teaching upcoming generations that the constitution is alterable, and that since there is no such thing as God, there is no such thing as God given rights..

2010s will be looked back on as a people of sheep. Blind and content with decreasing rights and no desire to fight for freedom.

The resistance are being targeted by Jade Helm. The government knows if they take away the second amendment, there are patriots willing to band together at a moment's notice. So they are enacting Jade Helm in July, to round up the patriots FIRST, then revoke the second amendment. These dictators are giving us no chance to stand up.

They are teaching that "Patriots" are synonymous with "terrorists". This is the real target of Homeland Security.

Culturally I think it's been a good decade so far. We've seen online culture becoming more mainstream and a real decline in traditional media. This leads to the exposure of more ideas, and gives more people a creative outlet, which I feel is making people on balance more open-minded, critically thinking, and creative. I do worry where it's all heading but there are always worries about the future, at least for now it's good, and that gives hope as well.

Politically, not so good but you could say that about any decade.

Compared to the other two decades I have lived through, this is much worse. We will be struggling to recover from the failures and misfortunes of this decade for the entire prime of our lives, and there is no guarantee we will succeed.

Credit is strict, employers are picky, interest rates have been flat zero for the entire decade. In the stock market we witness the largest disparity between strength of the market and the state of the real economy in its entire history; though the true severity of the bubble remains to be seen, there are dark clouds on the horizon.

The delicate balance of power that has held the world together in this uncommonly long era of global stability and relative peace has rapidly crumbled and stands on the verge of collapse. It would have been utterly unthinkable in decades past for the West to tolerate the degree of instability we see today in Yemen, Iraq, and Syria, not to mention Afghanistan, Egypt, Libya, and others. An entire region is destabilizing, major global events are taking shape, and the West is doing nothing to shape the future. Our zeal for a bright future seems to have degenerated into a blind obsession with the present.

Successful popular social movements have directed outright hostility against all of the concepts and institutions which have provided us with our vital sense of unity during the four most successful centuries of our specie's existence, all without providing any alternatives. While things crumble around us, we are at war with the very bonds that hold us together. This war is in the name of "individual liberty" yet uses authoritarian means and promotes an authoritarian worldview.

On a personal level, I feel that people are increasingly disconnected from each other and from themselves. Aggressive apathy is the theme. Defensive irony is the etiquette. While the 2000s were a decade which embraced emotional introspection and openness, the '10s are hostile to it.

This decade is not harmonious, and it is not industrious. It is a frivolous, willfully blind decade of increasing isolation and internal strife. It heralds a coming decade of revitalized unity in the face of the external consequences of this one.

You can blame Apple for popularising touch-screen smartphones in 2007; now phones are so easy to use babies can use them, and people are on them 24/7. If I wanted a new type of phone, it would be one where video calls would be a lot easier, although I did find the idea of smartphones cool where it can control your home (said some Apple ads).

Our music seems to lack emotion, as well.

Seems to me it's the same crap as before. I haven't followed mainstream music for the past 15 years so I am not sure if the music is better or not. Otherwise kids have newer and more powerful gadgets to use to be "social" in facebook and shit.

The global geopolitical scene is getting more interesting and intense which might result in some lifechanging events for whole countries.

Maybe mainstream media and forms of entertainment (including mainstream music, TV, etc.) is becoming less of an important measure of the culture of the times, and this decade will be judged more in terms of, for example, online culture. I see that we're moving gradually away from mass entertainment and more towards individual experience and interaction.

I dunno, I was pretty out of touch until semi-recently... actually I might still be pretty out of touch, but at least I've been watching all the Marvel movies, all of the Adventure Time episodes, this sweet YouTube resolution, jumped into the new Prog Metal scene, and I can tolerate Metalcore even though it feels kinda dumb. Hm, that's actually better than the latter half of 2000s, I think I've emerged from the cave... by staying in my cave.

Personal achievement unlocked. Ding, ding! As for music and the current affairs of that time, not so much although I could sensed an aura of upbeat, high hopes and extravagance in self-expressions.

The economy is still awful and my generation has suffered a lot for it. Many Gen Y are in their 30s now, but our living standard is what someone in their mid 20s used to have. Like every young generation, we get unfounded accusations of "entitlement" lodged at us, while older generations conveniently shuck any responsibility they had in shaping us.
How does this affect the '01s? It just seems kind of stagnant, much as Gen Y is stuck in adolescence.

I think our generation is also fully feeling the negative effects of past revolutions and new "freedoms" which were ideals of past generations, but which were not fully thought out. It was like "out with the old", and.....then nothing to replace it, leaving voids filled up with some unhealthy stuff. The idea of allowing people to be "natural" instead of structured by society in any way just kind of shows how ugly human nature can be. This is coming from someone who has never wanted a traditional family and 9-5 job.

As for pop culture, I like the music better now than the '00s which started off with that awful nu-metal and bubblegum pop. That music made me turn off the radio and seek out lesser known indie and college rock music. But now the radio is less grating to me, and it reminds me of the mid to late 90s, the post-grunge era of no single dominating style, but a mish-mash of many subgenres drawing heavily from the past. This makes for interesting radio singles, but also tends to be forgettable.

I dislike TV and continue to dislike it. At least reality TV is not as dominant. Cartoons nowadays seem crappy, but honestly, I probably havent seen one in over 5 years. Very few movies appeal to me either. I notice online content is getting increasingly stupid, which is sad.

There hasnt been much good art in how long? It seemed to really taper off in the early 80s, which wasnt exactly teeming with it either. I dont know where all the poets and fine artists and novelists went, or maybe the greats of this time period will not be recognized til after we're dead.

In short....stagnant and mediocre is how Id characterize the last 5 years, but then that's probably how I view life in general...its never really fantastic enough for me.

I'm pretty much out of touch with everything of my generation. I grew up always watching films from the 50s-mid 80s. My musical giving-a-shit stopped around 2005 for the most part besides a few bands here and there. I've seen some cool technology, I don't care about politics or anything happening around me unless it bothers my lifestyle somehow, which it doesn't. So I can't tell if its good or bad, just leave me alone to do whatever I want in my Timelessness.

The worst about the 2010s is IS, who are basically unstoppable; the fact that children from Europe WANT to be with them seems to me to be quite worrying; I don't know what to say about those who are joining to get back at their parents, but religious fundamentalists from ANY religion are never good, especially if they kill just to make their point and want to make life worse for everyone else. I pretty much hate almost everything else about the 2010s, also, such as the stupid thin T-shirts and shoes, the stupid hairstyles we have, and the ingenuine music that we have today.

The only good I see in the 2010s are probably a few animated films and with the continuing progress of science and technology.

It’s a mixed bag to me (voted Undecided)... too early to tell, but this is what I think so far:

Culture (esp. Youth culture):
-Fashion: not bad, overall preferable to ‘00s (didn’t mind ’00s fashion as a kid liking bright colors but looking back it was rather tacky). Don’t mind the skinny jeans and more muted colors, also I do think there is more variety in fashion which is a good thing.
Not at all a fan of leggings, high-waisted pants or the hipster glasses and beards trend though.

-Books: Personal bias here but I preferred ‘00s YA literature. The Hunger Games and Divergent are vastly overhyped as are John Green’s books, GoT is overrated and the series actually started in the late ‘90s…yes I may have a bias as a huge HP fan growing up waiting for each new book but imo Harry Potter is the epitome not only of good YA fiction but really exceptional being so imaginative and something not only kids but also grownups ie the whole family could enjoy. It’s quintessentially ‘00s and there hasn’t been anything like it since…
In terms of new technology, not a fan of Kindles, I prefer paper books and being able to lend them to friends…

-Movies/TV shows: Very mixed. Preferred ‘00s movies overall. Now there seems to be too much of an emphasis on special effects and overuse of 3D effects (and an obsession with splitting movies into Part1, 2, 3 when it could be a single movie), and too much focus on big blockbuster superhero movies and the like with less quality indies. Reality TV the Kardashians etc ofc is garbage (though that began in the ‘00s), however I appreciate Netflix and there continue to be some very good quality new shows on there.

-Music: Again mixed. Autotune began in the '00s but arguably there's even more increasingly bland, unoriginal mainstream music with less emotion and overuse of collaborations. However at the same time the new media does also provide an opportunity for increased exposure of alternative indie music not as restricted by labels...

-Technology:
Not necessarily a huge fan of the new innovations/media post-’10 tbh (I think the earlier changes in the late ‘90s/early ‘00s ie the initial emergence of use of computers and the internet becoming so widespread) were more ground-breaking in a positive way
to begin with whereas now we are seeing more negative developments associated with them imo as well), ie:
-new social media increasingly misused invading privacy
-the phenomenon of people being glued to their gadgets 24/7
-the constant development of new versions of everything putting an unnecessary strain on the planet’s resources…
-decline of traditional media maybe opening new opportunities but also seriously hurting professions such as journalism…

-US Politics:mixed/better than '00s
This is a matter of opinion of course. Imo things are somewhat better compared to the ’00s though (yes I remember the Bush years growing up, that was not a good time).

-The Economy/World Politics, sadly more negative so far…
Seems like the economy has at least been somewhat improving since the late ‘00s crash but overall the long-term prospects of a return to ‘90s/pre-crash ‘00s times don’t seem that good it will take a while… Worldwide it seems like there were some false positive developments at the beginning of the decade like the Arab Spring but of course sadly since then things actually got a lot worse, especially of course the escalating situation in the Middle East with the IS.

Agree with 2010s music being really bland. Be glad, however, that we're running out of efficient energy to power our new tech, so people and businesses can act accordingly; we may wind turbines and solar panels, they're less efficient than nuclear power, for instance.

Probably the only thing I hate about the 2000s in fashion are baggy jeans, I hate some aspects of 2010s fashion more, such as its thin clothes and quiffs.
