    Naruto Characters Myers-Briggs personality types

Um, hello Personality cafe :). I'm still quite new here and haven't posted very often, but I've decided to create this new thread about Naruto characters' myers-briggs personality types. Here are some of my opinions:

Naruto- ENFx. I know most people instantly classify Naruto as an ESFP, but in the past, I've thought of him as being an ENFJ, since Naruto posesses that ability to change those around him like ENFJs are said to be able to, while having a darker and more insecure side to himself at times as well. However, he could also very well be an ENFP, since he is generally quite wild, spontaneous, random and able to inspire those around him.
Sasuke- INTJ. It's a bit difficult to give Sasuke a specific personality type, since he seems to be an ISTJ at times due to his not being able to let go of the past, but after rereading the INTJ personality description, I believe he is more an INTJ, since they're said to be withdrawn and focused on their goals.
Sakura- ESFJ. Many people believe she is an ENFJ, but I honestly can't picture her as one. To me, she appears to be more of an ESFJ, as ESFJ's are said to be nurturers whom generally perform quite well in the health department, which fits Sakura with her medical abilities, and practical, down-to-earth providers whose main focus is serving those around them, which also describes her precisely.
Hinata- definite INFP. Us INFPs are said to appear to be withdrawn and reserved upon first glance, but in reality have a rich, passionate inner world with a deep capacity for caring, which fits Hinata to a tee. In addition to being generally thoughtful and caring, INFP's also value harmony and consensus and hold an extreme dislike of conflict, which Neji himself described to be a part of Hinata's personality during his fight against her in the Chunin Exams.
Kiba- ESTP. ESTPs are described as being very outgoing and action-oriented individuals whom are quite loyal to their close ones and enjoy taking risks.
Shino- Another hard one to do. As Shino is generally secluded and reserved, its hard to tell what type of a personality Shino might truly have. I've thought him to be an INTJ and ISTP in the past, but after truly thinking it through, ISTJ is closests to Shino's personality, since he appears to be quite organized and traditional for the most part.
Ino- obvious ESFP. Ino is a highly extroverted and fun-loving being whom is spontaneous and enjoys the present and having a good time. As ESFP's are said to have, Ino has a high affinity for beauty and nature, although she also tends to be quite shallow and materialistic at times (not trying to insult any ESFPs or anything! *sweatdrop*).
Shikamaru- INTP. Shikamaru is definetly an introvert, and despite his being highly logical and analytical, he seems to be quite intuitive and enjoys listening to possible theories as well.
Chouji- ISFP. ISFP's are said to be kind-hearted and soft-spoken individuals whom enjoy the present moment and the beauty surrounding them and hold a practical view of their world, which fits Chouji quite well.
Neji- ISTJ. Neji is a perfect example of a typical ISTJ, as he is a realistic traditionalist whom values rules and structure. As some ISTJs are described to be, he has had trouble releaing the past and opening his eyes to the future in prior times.
Tenten- I'm not particularly sure about Tenten's personality type, as not much background information has been given about her, but based on what I've seen, I'll say she is an ENFJ. Tenten appears to be quite extroverted and tomboyish, and, according to some information from Kishi (the manga's author), to be a generous and loyal person whom enjoys serving those around her whenever she can.
Rock Lee and Maito Guy- definite ExFPs. I've decided to put them both together, since their personalities are so similar to one anothers. Both Gai and Lee have extremely passionate and enthusiastic personalities with tendencies to be random and idealistic, which is why I believe they could be a possible ENFPs, but at the same time, they could be an ESFPs as well, since they're both quite talented with their bodies and enjoy doing things in the present.
Haku- Another INFP. At first, I initially thought he was an ISFJ, since he was very kind-hearted and loyal and seemingly enjoyed fulfilling his duties, but once I randomly read about his personality today, he seemed to fit the INFP personality type to a tee. Haku mainly wanted a purpose in life and to be appreciated and loved by someone for merely being himself, which is one of INFPs main traits. As a child, he also seemed to be quite curious and perhaps even idealistic. He maintained a complex internal value system as well and held a strong dislike towards conflict and avoided it whenever he possibly could.
Temari- ESTJ. During the first part of the Naruto series, Temari appeared to be quite ENTJ- like, since she seemed to be authorative and and dominant, wanting to constantly pick fights and arguments with others, but as the series progressed, she became more of an ESTJ, since she is quite level-headed and seems to value stability and peace.
Gaara- Although I'm not too sure, I'll say INTJ. Gaara in the past was shown to be quite withdrawn and hasn't been presented as being naturally sensitive and in-tune with others' feelings. In additon, he tends to bottle up his emotions within rather than express them.
Sai- INTP. Sai has been presented as a character whom has had trouble understanding other peoples' emotions (not that I'm saying INTP's are like this...), and although he has good intentions and continually attempts to undertand others, he generally misunderstood or comes off as being awkward, thus making me think he's an INTP due to the "awkwardness" of his personality.
Tsunade- ENFJ, since she is passionate and has great leaderships skills, and yet tends to turn to dark thoughts when alone and be skeptical about whom to trust.
Shizune- ISFJ. ISFJ's are said to be warm-hearted and compassionate duty fulfillers whom are practical and have extraordinary organization skills, which describes Shizune precisely.
Jiraiya- classic ENFP. During the time he was alive, Jiraiya was highly idealistic and held high dreams for the society around him. He was also shown to be quite random and inspiring towards others.
Kurenai- I'm not too sure about her, either, but I'd say she's an ISFJ, since she seems to generally be honest, supportive and caring for her students.
Kakashi- INTP, since he appears to be quite logical and perceptive for the most part. As a child, he appeared to be an ISTJ though, from what I saw in Kakashi Gaiden.
Rin- INFJ, since she was seemingly humble, nurturing and caring towards her comrades.
Obito- ENFx like Naruto, for the same reasons.

I'm sorry if this seems long.... I just wanted to see what you guys opinions on the Naruto characters' personality types were. Again, these are just my opinions and beliefs, and I'm willing to hear your thoughts as well!

    INFP - The Idealists

Oh, goodness. My way old Naruto obsession staring me in the face. It's been sooo long since I've even thought about anime. I pretty much agree with all of your typings, and from a fandom perspective, I find it funny that Temari is ESTJ and Shikamaru is INTP (since they're supposedly a good match. My mom is ESTJ and Dad is INTP. lol )

    I could go on, but I won't.

    INTJ - The Scientists

Sasuke and Gaara are INFJs, I think. Just shows their potential.
Itachi and Shino are INTJs.. Itachi was basically just pure genius, and has that loyalty INTJs have too.

    INTJ - The Scientists

Nice analysis of their characters - and the most accurate and perceptive post I've seen on this so far (from various forums!)
I don't know the Naruto characters too well - I started skipping certain arcs at some point; but most if it seems true. Especially on Sakura! Most people seem to type her as ENFJ, so it's nice to see someone getting ESFJ on that :p

And I'm also glad that you typed Shino as ISTJ. Leaning towards ENFP for Naruto, mostly because he seems less 'interfering' than an ENFJ would be (because of Fe), and he seems pretty personal value driven, which suggests Fi. Though now that you've suggested it, I can see some ENFJ...

    There're a few who confuse me -
Sai for instance. I really don't know what he is, beyond IxTx (and not ISTJ)..

Sasuke too is a little odd. I've never been able to make up my mind on him. I think his obsession with the past is more a plot device than a personality trait here, and so not grounds for thinking him to be an ISTJ, but he seems startlingly.. emotional or impulsive at times, which are surprising traits in an INTJ (not to say that they're all reserved and reflective!) but Itachi for instance, seems more a quintessential example of that type.

Rin I've always thought to be more of an ISFJ than an INFJ, although we don't really know her well.

And Kakashi... on one hand, taking each of the traits individually, he does seem to be an I, N, T and P. But somehow the overall profile of an INTP doesn't seem to fit him. There's something subtly off, and I can't put my finger on what it is. Perhaps it'll come to me, if I reflect a little more on it. I thought he was an ISTP once, but he does seem logical and perceptive and somewhat intuitive. His habits (reading, hanging around by the monument etc.) also seem somewhat physically low-key and more indicative of a non Se temperament.

    INFP - The Idealists

All pretty good, but I would rethink Gaara being XXTX. I definitely agree with the IXXJ, but he is rather emotional. Even if he appears reserved at times, that doesn't mean he doesn't determine things based upon a subjective view of the world especially one grounded in feelings. Feelers, despite what some believe, can be rather cold-blooded. It all just depends on what kind of lives they lived and how healthy they are.
Though, Gaara does become more 'warm' at one point. I mean he makes a pretty good Kazekage for the Sand Village. (The title is Kazekage, right? It's been a while since I watched Naruto.)

So, I would believe him to be either INFJ or ISFJ. I am not sure about the intuition versus sensing thing.

Okay! Now that it's been a few days, I don't feel so demoralized that my post in this thread got killed horribly. Time for version two! @Trigun64 , @Iconoclastic Visionary , I have your replies in my inbox if you would like me to PM them to you.

For some characters (Tenten, Haku, Temari, Kurenai, and Rin), I just don't know them enough to even begin typing them. But for all the other characters in the OP and not in here, I agree with what was said in that post.

Naruto – ESFP. The way he jumps into battle and acts way, way before he thinks about it reeks of Se. He doesn’t really use Ne from what I can tell... it’s more Ni (inferior, at that) in the way that he suddenly understand things. But he is definitely Fi-aux.
Sasuke – IxTJ. I can’t tell about his S/N factor and he sometimes seems like he has Fe more than Fi. But he’s definitely an I and definitely a TJ, so maybe he does! Ni or Si, though? The way he takes pride in his clan is more Si, but I can see a bit of Ni in the way he learns. Then again, his clan pride could be more from the traumatic-ness of losing them.
Sakura – ESFJ. She takes care of them and doesn’t have the “I see your soul” of ENFJs. I wouldn’t call her an N and she definitely uses Fe the most.
Ino – ESFJ. She strikes me more a J in the way she handles people. I don’t see her as a P, really.
Shino – ISTJ. There’s really no other choice. He has the same ISTJ flair as a friend of mine, the stony privateness and utter reliability.
Rock Lee – ESFP. Definite ExxP, more F than T, more S than N. I can see a bit of Ne in him, actually, but I think he takes things a little more literally than an Ne-dom would.
Maito Guy – ESTP. I know, Guy and Lee are very similar. I just see more Fe in Guy than in Lee. Also, he has more skill in analysis, which would suggest Ti.
Gaara – INTJ, one more in touch with his Fi. Alternatively, an INFJ that was stuck in an Ni-Ti loop before he knew Naruto. I’m not quite sure.
Tsunade – INFJ. Inferior Se accounts for her gambling habit. She needs her time alone, suggesting her being an introvert. The way she connects with people suggests more NF-ness, and I have a suspicion she was a little more idealistic when she was younger.
Obito – ENFP. He’s... never on time (P). He has strong feelings on certain things (Fi). Easily excited (ExFP). Equals ENFP to me.
Minato (Fourth Hokage) – ENFJ. Definitely has that aura, I think. The way he speaks and even looks at people just screams ENFJ. He died for his family and hoped for the best.
Jugo (Team Taka) – ISFP. He’s soft and kind until his bouts of evilness. Maybe ISFJ, but I think ISFP fits more.
Suigetsu (Team Taka) – ENTJ. I don’t really have an explanation for this, but I think he’s definitely an NT.
Karin (Team Taka) - ESTJ. Maybe? I felt bad I had an idea on Jugo and Suigetsu but not for Karin.
Pain - INFP. Originally said INFx, but he’s more INFP who got corrupted.
Itachi - INFJ. People would like to think that he’s a T, but I can’t. After finding out the stuff in Shippuden... There’s no question as to which type he is in my mind.

I find Pain and Itachi's personality the most interesting of all, so I'm going to be a bit biased and talk only of them.

I'm making my decisions of their MBTI type from this website (, that gives a brief summary of their personalities.

Pain(or Nagato) was INFP, here's why:

Nagato was a sensitive, but kind boy, prone to crying, and was traumatized by the idea of killing others, even to save his friend Yahiko. Scared and unsure of his place in the world, he desired to help those he cared about, but never knew how. He was consistently respectful and kind to Konan, who he claimed to be his "angel" in Amegakure. He was shown protecting her, without request or hesitation from Jiraiya before his battle with his former teacher. Apparently, she was the only Akatsuki member that addressed him by name.
As Pain, his personality was very different, having become a calm, serious, aloof, and detached man. Apparently believing traumas he experienced in his youth had enlightened him to the true meaning of pain and suffering, he considered himself a deity, and believed he had evolved beyond a mere human being. He sought to show the world the meaning of pain by using an ultimate weapon to deter future wars, by means similar to "mutually assured destruction", and showed no moral qualms about his actions. He was willing to kill Jiraiya to ensure the completion of his plans. He even went so far as to proclaim himself a "god of peace", that had to guide the world to maturity through pain. Finally, he felt that no-one could understand true peace unless they understood "true" pain, something his childhood friend Yahiko believed. Minato Namikaze believed Madara Uchiha to have been using this philosophy in his favor, in order to manipulate Nagato.

In the anime, Nagato is shown to be sensitive when it comes to talk about "pain"; when Ibiki Morino used a special summoning jutsu that "linked them by pain" Nagato got furious (through the Animal Path) and shouted that "he had no idea of what true pain was" releasing itself from the jutsu and attack Ibiki violently.

Nonetheless, he was seen to be quite respectful, particularly to the fallen and the dead. Given the Akatsuki members' frequent bickering, he often quelled them and encouraged better relations among members. He even suggested that they mourn for Deidara after his passing, and reprimanded Kisame for calling Hidan and Kakuzu the "Zombie Brothers". After his battle with Jiraiya, he held a moment of silence for his former teacher, out of respect for his power.
Because Konohagakure was partly responsible for the tragedies in his life, he held some form of animosity for the village. Although Jiraiya's influence improved his opinion of the village during their time together, he eventually came to believe that Konoha profited from the tragedies of others and hated it and his former teacher.
This description is INFP written all over it. He has very strong internal value system. He's screwed up I agree, but he went through a rough childhood and came to the conclusion that pain and suffering was the way to find peace. He used Ne to gather the information that life was troubling and painful, and used his internal judging function to come up his values(Fi).

Itachi on the other hand was INFJ, and here's why:

Ever since his first appearance, Itachi had always been mysterious, and had acted as though he was hiding his true self. While flashbacks to his past showed that he was a compassionate brother and person, his later acts and claims made it seem that this was mostly just an act. But, surprisingly, he genuinely was the compassionate brother he had once claimed to be, although he hid this from the rest of the Akatsuki to protect Sasuke.
As a member of Akatsuki, he possessed incredible self-control of his emotions, constantly displaying an emotionless personality. He only showed surprise when opponents proved more powerful or skilled than he had expected, and even then he didn't lose his composure. He did not possess any arrogance, and fully justified any statements he made about his power, even complimenting his opponents at times on their abilities.

In addition to being an extremely powerful ninja, Itachi had equally impressive intelligence, and was shown to be very wise. He was exceedingly sharp and observant to any situation at hand, as he was rarely surprised or caught off guard. He also displayed great intuition, as he was almost never deceived and even then almost instantly realized the truth. Despite his status as a wanted criminal, and having wiped out his clan, Itachi took no enjoyment in violence or combat, instead preferring to avoid battle or, if this was not possible, end it as quickly as he could.

Itachi's only initial interest was in Akatsuki's goals, and his only loyalties appeared to be to the organization and its members, seeming to put the organization's success and secrecy before everything else.[5] As such, Itachi got along with his partner, Kisame, much better than most other Akatsuki members did with their own partners. Kisame appeared to have a deep loyalty to Itachi, immediately doing as he instructed and constantly looking out for his well-being. Itachi treated all of his fellow Akatsuki members to this same, more respectful personality, although his courtesy was rarely returned by the other members.
However, when he was in a genjutsu duel during his fight with Sasuke, he cruelly claimed he had only let Sasuke live so that he could take Sasuke's eyes and obtain his own Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, after which he then claimed the Uchiha clan had been nothing but tainted and evil, since many members would kill their friends to gain the Mangekyō Sharingan, and would take another Uchiha's eyes to make its power permanent. Once the genjutsu was released, he called it his true self, implying his calm, emotionless personality was also a façade. This persona was later revealed to be only an act to ensure that he would die by Sasuke's hands, his love for his younger brother being the fundamental aspect of his personality.

In the end, Itachi put all of his faith in Naruto, who he notes as the person most determined to save and protect Sasuke. After hearing Naruto's answer to keep protecting Sasuke and everyone in Konoha, Itachi gave him some of his power. He was very grateful towards Naruto's determination to save Sasuke, and was smiling after hearing Naruto's response. Itachi even trusted him enough to bring Sasuke back to the light.
To me this is a very accurate description of the INFJ personality. First of all, people tend to think that T types are evil, but what Itachi did(killing his whole clan) was due to the fact that he wanted to avoid a war between the Uchiha clan and Konoha. His reason for being a jerk to Sasuke comes from the reason to protect him from knowing the truth of what really happened between the clans. All this stems from feeling in my opinion, not thinking.

(Thanks Paradigm for saving my response to this thread )

I agree with most of those. However, I always thought of Naruto as not an ESFP nor an ENFJ, but an ENFP. But that's just my opinion. He seems perceptive about others , while still being spontaneous and fun-seeking. That's the description of an ENFP and it fits him to a T.

Sasuke and Itachi-INTJ. The way they are goal focused and the way Itachi hid his true self is more Fi and the way Itachi planned everything out and the coldness that was always on the surface is more Te.
    Naruto- ENFP

A new question; What type is Kishimoto?
