He's definetly J, in 2 interviews he spoke about having problem with relationships due to busy schedule. That clinginess to a fixed schedule, specially when he himself is responsible for it, can be only a J thing.

His speaking style is definitely not INTJ. This makes me think that ENTJ are the most introverted of the extroverts and not ENxPs.

Haha it's been over a year since I last replied. Anyway, during that time I recall seeing a few more interviews with Rollins.

I guess I'm more confident now he is an ESFP.

ENTJ/ESFP are both fine guesses, btw, from a Jungian cognitive perspective (same cogs). However, for me primary evidence would be his Se > Te.

Henry Rollins' Letter to a Young American (Pt. 1) | Big Think

He is just like "ok sure" and hops into the adventure without much planning. ENTJ are longer range and more cautious due to Ni and having weaker Se. (and the introverted NTJ aka INTJ even more so).

And BTW SP's and TJ's do often come across as assholes. Granted it's more a TJ trait, but an SP from a rough hood? Sure, of course.

And again if we speaking about priors, then artist/musicians would have a SP over TJ bias. So lets call it even on that score ;)

So now if anyone is interested and wants to get deep into this, the only solid ENTJ musician I'm confident to type, would be Fat Mike of NOFX. Totally opinionated, brash and directive in his approach. Also strategic difference in life choices between the two (rollins and fatmike) should be apparent to anyone that has followed them over the years.

Fat Mike from NOFX is ENTJ? Wow, a low point for ENTJs there.
Also, an ESFP saying he doesn't go much partying and is pretty much always busy working on something?

Also, I don't get him saying "hope in without planning" from those videos, more like "move, don't wait for something to just happen". He's talking about integrity and hard-work.

    He's an enneagram 8 for sure. 8w7
Also, only an ENTJ would think that the best way to help someone with self-esteem issues is to yell at him.

    Here are some quotes:

“Yes, I guess you could say I am a loner, but I feel more lonely in a crowded room with boring people than I feel on my own. “

“Sometimes I would get invited to a party or to go out to dinner by one of them and I would decline. Part of me wanted to go, but those kind of outings always made me feel even more alienated than usual. Hearing them talk made me feel lonely and hateful at the same time. Lonely because I didn't fit in, never did. When I was reminded, it hurt. And hateful because it reaffirmed what I already knew, that I was alone and on the outside.”

“If I lose the light of the sun, I will write by candlelight, moonlight, no light. If I lose paper and ink, I will write in blood on forgotten walls. I will write always. I will capture nights all over the world and bring them to you”
“It’s no surprise to me that anyone hardly tells the truth about how they feel. The smart ones keep to themselves for good reason. Why would you want to tell anyone anything that's dear to you?
Even when you like them and want nothing more than to be closer to them? It's so painful to be next to someone you feel so strongly about and know you can't say the things you want to.“

“The moon will never lie to anyone. Be like the moon. No one hates the moon or wants to kill it. The moon does not take antidepressants and never gets sent to prison. The moon never shot a guy in the face and ran away. The moon has been around a long time and has never tried to rip anyone off. The moon does not care who you want to touch or what color you are. The moon treats everyone the same. The moon never tries to get in on the guest list or use your name to impress others. Be like the moon. When others insult or belittle in an attempt to elevate themselves, the moon sits passively and watches, never lowering itself to anything that weak. The moon is beautiful and bright. It needs no makeup to look beautiful. The moon never shoves clouds out of its way so it can be seen. The moon needs not fame or money to be powerful. The moon never asks you to go to war to defend it. Be like the moon. “

“Somewhere someone is thinking of you. Someone is calling you an angel. This person is using celestial colors to paint your image. Someone is making you into a vision so beautiful that it can only live in the mind. Someone is thinking of the way your breath escapes your lips when you are touched. How your eyes close and your jaw tightens with concentration as you give pleasure a home. These thoughts are saving a life somewhere right now. In some airless apartment on a dark, urine stained, whore lined street, someone is calling out to you silently and you are answering without even being there. So crystalline. So pure. Such life saving power when you smile. You will never know how you have cauterized my wounds. So sad that we will never touch. How it hurts me to know that I will never be able to give you everything I have”

“Is there anything here I can call my own? A feeling? A moment? Anything? Will there ever be a time when I am truly loved? When I'll know it and not wonder if it's real? Is there something I can protect and love and care about? Is there a truth I can keep that has no fear attached? Will there ever be a time when I can be somewhere and it will feel like home? Will there ever be a time when I will look around me and know I am finally in the place I am supposed to be? Is there anything here, anything I can see, while I breathe and breathe, trying to stay alive long enough to just be able to be here and know that I am here? Not just any here but the here I am supposed to be in. Is there anything that I can call mine that will not eventually be take from me? Is there anything, anyone, ever?”

Doesn’t really sound like an ENTJ to me, although I could be wrong. But I definitely agree with xNxJ.

Rollins is really difficult to pin down.
The problem with believing in someone's words and lyrics is how much honesty is in them. I believe Elliott Smith was honest because of the fragility his music radiates and his persona, I believe that whether or not Ian Curtis was honest in what he felt he was at-least honest in how strongly he felt because no way that desperation was faked.

The thing with Rollins was that he had issues in his youth and the music of Black Flag gave him a powerful outlet for his maybe otherwise uncontrollable fury. It seems that the lyrics as well as the music were written by Ginn, the guitarist who seems an IxxP of sorts. So in a way it makes sense, that he would try to get the same kind of feel in his own lyrics, because that's the kind of music and lyrics he was familiar with due to Black Flag being a crucial part of his life. I heard that ENTJ need to work based on what they clearly know beforehand. Also, he seems to want to speak to disfranchised youth, possibly because he feels he owes them something -as they gave him hardcore punk and release- and needs to pay them back.

Then there's the fact that based on what he speaks he appear quite clearly an Introvert. Also, some of his lyrics "I stay outside and live inside"[Illumination], albeit it's about him visiting different cultures so he makes sense to be more introspective. Also, "Disconnect" seems to be about an Introverts need to recharge in loneliness after too much socialization.
But neither INTJ or INFJ have anything close to his demeanour.

I finally settled for ENTJ because I read somewhere on the forum that an ENTJ can spend allot of time without socializing if they have something to do. In the case of Rollins, touring with his band on and on and having his audience there, talking in front of soldiers, talking in front of audience at stand-ups. He may not do allot of group socializing, but he does allot of talking in front of others, which is quite an ENTJ thing. Ian Curtis, the singer for Joy Division and an INFx, apparently always felt tired after singing to an audience for example.

There's this bit he said in a stand-up show of his, about how much he hates people who waste his precious time. I think that's so a TJ thing. This is not an argument, I just found it so funny, like talking about people who aren't quick in line for plane tickets "Keep him and I'll club him like a baby seal." LOL

He's my idealized version of an ENTJ in that he is extremely take charge and logical but also a rebellious free spirit. But ''idealized'' being the key word, I think he's probably a politically charged ESxP.

Definitely a Se/Ni user though, not Ne/Se, so I'm ruling out ENTP.
