Oh, wow! So I'm not the only one who thinks dreams have meanings, and that finding said meanings is a fun challenge! :3

I have one that I've been thinking about, but I'm not 100% as far as it's meaning goes. Got any suggestions?

I was with my friends at a museum, looking around and enjoying myself. However, I quickly realized that someone was following us. And that someone looked like they wanted to kill us. (I dunno, dreams are so weird!). So we took off, and they gave chase. We found ourselves at my church, and quickly went inside. After a running around a bit, we came across a crowded classroom. Believing we could blend in and not be seen, my friends and I ducked inside. I told everyone in the classroom that I would pay them five dollars if they would stay put and help hide us. But, instead, another kid from my youth group told everyone that they should leave instead. And, of course, they listened to him. By now the man had found us, and with everyone gone, he had a clear shot at us. But before he could do anything, my grandma came into the room and pinned him down. Then we were able to call the police, and it was alright.

Strange, right? I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I feel safe at church? Or maybe that I (should) turn to my religion to get through a hard time? And does the fact that no one listened to me, even when I bribed them, mean something? I'd love to hear your opinions! :3

No indeed! I'm with you on the dream-meaning bandwagon. :)

Your dream kind of reminds me of the first one SargeMaximus shared, and I believe he had said that characters like criminals in your dreams represents your shadow personality...I personally think it could also be some external factor. Also, how often do you go to museums? If you don't go much, that seems like a kind of odd setting. Anyway, maybe there's some issue going on in your life right now, and you turn to your religion (a good idea, imo! :) ) when you're facing it. I may just be projecting, because I feel this a lot, too, but the fact that you tried bribing your youth group (if I understand correctly) may be times when you feel like you're trying everything you can--perhaps praying or even making sacrifices (such as, say, fasting)--to ask for spiritual help and guidance, but sometimes feel like you're not getting the answer. But in the end, when your grandma comes in, perhaps that's reassuring yourself that everyone will work out fine, so you should just trust in your faith and your family to support you with your troubles.

I might be terribly biased in my opinion, though, because I've experienced things like that with my own faith a lot, and it's confusing but somehow gets resolved in the end. :)

Yeah that's what I'm saying. I mean, dream dictionaries are good in that they might get you started on the path to interpreting your dreams, but if you get serious, I'd recommend dropping them altogether simply because of the personal nature of dreams. For example: last night I had a dream about playing Gears of War 3. The dream took place at an egyptian-like building that was under re-modelling. I advanced on another player and got behind cover parallel to the cover he was using and got a head shot. Then I saw another guy, and got a head shot on him. The third guy I spotted I missed the shot. Then missed again. Then, on the third try, I got a head shot.

Clearly the dream dictionary would be almost useless for the Gears meaning (which is the entire context of the dream) which brings me to my belief: dreams are in the context of our own unique minds, and thus need to be approached in such a way.

Now I'll shed some light on how I'd approach the most recently posted dream:

The man chasing you definitely represents your shadow. You have to understand, that the only reason a shadow chases you is because it wants to be recognized as part of you. It's lonely and feels abandoned, especially when you run to things to escape it. I'd say the religious aspect of the dream is quite spot on, especially since you seem to identify with it. But perhaps you use religion to suppress parts of yourself that you are ashamed of, which is very normal for most people btw.

I'd recommend you realize that all characters in the dream are simply aspects of you, and the situations and places you find yourself in must be relevant to you on some metaphorical level. When you think museum, church, what comes to mind? Really delve into your personal ideas here. You don't have to reveal your discoveries openly (as this can actually hinder you from confronting the shadow).

Additionally, I'd say the child who told everyone to leave was a part of you that is childish and wants you to embrace your shadow. Of course your grandma was probably a big influence from your religious and 'proper' part of yourself, so of course, at the last second, she 'saves' you from your shadow. The fact that no one listened to you indicates that other parts of your personality want you to confront this as well. I'd go out on a limb here and say you must have internal trouble and find certain people in the world to be despicable. However, the shadow projects itself onto others because you don't want to recognize it in yourself. Generally speaking, when you see a trait or behavior that makes you get impulsively hating or disgusted against it, it's actually a part of you that you are trying to destroy.

Anyhow, hope that helps. Always remember, keep things personal. :)

I've read a book about dream analysis, it was by a German author, unfortunately can't remember the name nor the title of the book. But he would have basically analyzed it the way @SargeMaximus did. He said that the people in our dreams represent us, the traits we like and the faults we hate. I remember he provided an example where he said this more or less:

Think of your quirky neighbor Fritz. You dreamed about him but why would you do so? You don't have anything in common with him. But maybe one side of you recognizes those crazy little things in Fritz to be a part of you too, you're just not aware of them in your conscious life but your unconscious is revealing them to you.

He also said that our unconscious talks to us in symbols. So when you die in your dream, for example, it doesn't mean that this is a premonition of your actual death but it rather symbolizes a new beginning. The old you died and a new chapter of your life begins.

So @HeartOfTheWind when grandma takes care of everything in your dream it probably means you see a strength in your grandmother that you want to have or that needs to resurface to solve something in your real life. You kept running away but everyone in your dream forced you to confront the man who was chasing you.

You could also look at the places you have been: museum, church, school.

The museum could represent your past or all you have experienced so far.
The church and the school represent places where people are being taught or better yet indoctrinated.
Are some of your beliefs and values you've held onto for your whole life being challenged by someone and you don't know what to do?

I better stop now, haha, who knows what else I'm going to come up with.
You know yourself the best so I'm sure you'll find the answer.

I'd never thought of it that way! Very interesting that the person chasing me could actually be a part of me. Thank you for the explanation. :3 Now I must try and figure out if there is some part of me I am avoiding. What you said makes a lot of sense!

It can be pretty simple to identify the shadow. I'd read this: Throwing Light on the Shadow: Carl Jung’s Answer to Evil « Earthpages.org
Or, if you're really serious, I suggest reading the books "The Shadow Effect" and "Meeting the Shadow" for more.

i was being framed for killing my brother by a corrupt system. my lover didn't believe me. intead she was falling for the man who was fraiming me.
i was found guilty. i was going to prison. but while i was in the system there was a man. a corrupt man who found my set of "skills" and desperation useful. i was going to live my life in prison, but he would help me kill the men who did it to me.

it got weird here. i was being transported in the back of a construcion viecle. it was full of water. and i was trapped under equitment while under gun point. when we got to our destination they handed me a rifle. and we were some sort of animal hunters. (these were the skills the man talked about) i walked into a movie theater\cort room\lybrary. there was the man who fraimed me. we fought, but i couldn't kill him no matter how many times i broke his neck. finally i knocked him from a ledge. my lover saw the whole thing. after that, i just grabbed her really tight and started walking her away out of sight. i was hugging her, begging her to believe me. i was freaking begging. she believed me. i picked her up princess style and took her to to a hidden area with books around. i just wanted to hold on to her for awhile before they took me away. i sat down and she was on my lap holding on to me. but something was wrong with her eyes. she was wearing fake eyes to fake sympathy and understanding. her hair kept getting in the fake eyes. they looked like giant contacts. then she got a cell phone call. she took it right there on my lap and it was about her failing to trick me because i saw the eyes.

then i was in the theater. i was going to miss my train with my father to hong kong. he had a speech at a religious convention that he had to give. instead we sat there and watched the movie. (the entire currupt system was in the theater watching too. also the guy who framed me as well as my (at this point) "former" lover. we had a few minutes to get to the train. but my father had just given up. he stayed at the movie too long because he was too ashamed to go give his speech becasue of the sins he had lived. so me and him were just walking to his house. we took this back way. it was a wide dark street with trees all around. there were hookers everywhere. police cars were passing by us. one of them slowed and was looking at me (i thought he wanted to take me to jail for the murder.) i waved and smiled so he would just keep going but he stopped us. they were also stopping all the hookers. they stripped them and hosed them down with bug spray. thye told me to join them. the hookers were taking it lightly and laughing (this happened all the time. it was just a precaution to keep people safe from diseased mosquitoes. they weren't arresting anyone) i joined the hookers. i joined in their light way of taking it, jumping up and down screaming and dancing. it got them excited and the started doing the same. they came really close to me and some of them hugged me trying to speak to me in their broken english(this was in china, and they thought that because i was white that i had money. they were just trying to tempt me to use there services) i told them "no thanks. i like my women to be fresh" i said it in a light haearted joking way and it made them laugh.

then i was walking down a street with shops. i saw a tiger killing something in one of the shops. i grabbed my father's cane and i ran in to save them. but when i got close i saw that it was just a cat. i still wanted to save it, but now i felt i had time to get a better weapon. i ran next door and got a bunch of knives(kill one cat to save another
) but whne i got back the owners had returned and just put them in cages. i guess it happens all the time. i felt sorry for the little cat living with such mean owners. then i woke up.

It sounds like maybe your subconscious wants to reach out and help your neighbour's son. Maybe she really did want you to help him out while she was alive. Have you thought about contacting him in anyway? Even if just to say hello, if you were somewhat acquainted with him before...it sounds like he really needs someone to help him out, but I'm sure even just saying hi would brighten up his day. :)
The weird thing is, before I dreamed about our deceased neighbor, I had dreamed I was inside their house and it was empty. I never really get inside the house ever since I was little (I knew that neighbor since I was 10 or 11). But I'm too awkward to smile at his son. I'm really shy or maybe I'm just plain apathetic. Her son would always call me "pimples" when I was pubescent that's why ever since then, I always ignore him. I empathize with what's going on with his life. But I've got a life too. There are other people who could help him better than I could do. Why do they appear in my dream? Why me? Weird.

Wow! I find dreams so interesting, and it was fun to stumble across this thread and learn some things.

Anyway, here's one of the dreams I've had recently- after a little preface:

-I'm always the 'main character' in my dreams, and to me, dreaming feels like I'm in a deeper state of reading a book where there are no distractions and the fiction is much more real.-

The dream begins in a large cavern (I assume it was a cavern, though it could have just been an area with a sky of pure blackness) of unknown size, and I am standing near the edge of a great abyss that stretches into the darkness as far as I can see in that direction. With me is an old man, who is sending me on a quest across the abyss. The area is lit where we are standing.

The only thing breaking the depths of the abyss is a narrow ridge of rock that extends from the 'cliff' I'm on into the darkness of the cavern as far as I can see. On this ridge is a run-down path of wooden board steps and lattice-work, and it is on this path that I begin my journey. The old man watches me climb for a while, but soon my attention is focused on the path, because a few of the boards I've stepped on broke away from the rock and tumbled into the abyss. After a long while of travelling across this spine of rock along the path, occasionally eschewing the rotten wooden boards in favor of making my own way, I see light in the sky, a dawn, and in the distance I can barely make out hills green with grass.

Eventually I climb off the treacherous rock ridge onto the grassy hills. I travel up to the top of the hill, and look down to see a complex of white buildings - a secret and hidden place. I sneak over to the side of one of the buildings, where Ron and Hermione are waiting for me. (I take the place of a 'Harry Potter' character, but am not Potter himself.) We plan for a little bit about how to enter the facility, and decide to split up and meet somewhere in fifteen minutes. I go down a hallway to the left, where I know I'll run into a guy.

So, like I thought, I encounter a large hispanic man with a long greasy mullet. I ask him how much he'd take for a bribe to let me past without sounding the alarm, and he tells me thirty dollars or something like that. I shrug, indicating that's too much (even though I have that much on me), and go back down the hallway I came from, while the man just goes back to standing there.

Eventually, I meet back up with Ron and Hermione by a rocky wall on the other side of the facility. We're all looking around, as the agents in the facility are now alerted to our presence and are searching for us. Ron is holding an arm-length high-tech magical device, and I take it from him. I hold it up with two hands, and place the front against the rock wall. I activate the device and a square bluish portal opens up in front of us in the rock face. (The device was really cool! After recalling the dream, I really wished I had one.)

After activating the device, agents come running across the grass behind us. I know they are more than men in suits with sunglasses, and have dangerous power. (I think one had a long black ponytail.) But not to worry, because soon we are being pulled across reality, or reality is being pulled across us, as we flash into the rock face, and through the underground portion of the facility. We can see shadows of what it looks like outside our 'bluish device box', and shapes of other secret agents running towards the box and trying to use magical punches against it. But they cannot affect the box or impede our progress.

Soon, we reach our final destination: the treasure room/repository (It might have been the Queens? I don't know which queens.) We exit the box, and it disappears. The great chamber is wooden-walled, and there are lots of shields (with different heraldic symbols and the like) lining the top of the walls. There are tables of wonderful weapons and other magical devices, a room full of magical brooms, and chests.

We search around for a bit, trying out a couple of the brooms and figuring out a few of the magic devices. But after a little while, it's clear to us that the most powerful of the agent/guardians has entered the chamber. He is ethereal for the moment, but will soon materialize. Soon, he does, first appearing as the black ponytail agent, then transforming into a giant red dragon. I move quickly to a chest, and one of probably two things happens. Either I find a magical banner, or I just open the chest and am given power. Either way, I transform into a giant gold dragon, and the ceiling of the chamber becomes like a view of space, filled with stars and other celestial bodies and seemingly endless.

The red dragon and I, a gold dragon, take fiery flight up into the stars (so it really is some form of space) and engage in epic space combat. After blasting the red dragon into flaming bits, I return to the chamber, victorious. Then we noticed some sort of magical spirit/construct in the form of a surf shop owner (duuude) in the room with the most shields, that line the wall like surfboards.

That's the end of the dream. Hope you enjoyed it (maybe not like I have, but still!), and can possibly use it to derive mystical truths about me and the universe.

    Thanks!
    SargeMaximus thanked this post.
