Do You Have a Silent Mind?

    Hi INFJs!

How many of you naturally have a constant silent mind?

Hmm. Do you mean a blank mind without a filter, a mind that just drinks things in?

My mind is constant. Constantly connecting, forming, deciphering, evaluating, concluding. I have a mind that works with symbolism and imagery. When I say it’s constant, I mean it’s constant.

Even while sleeping, my dreams tell dramatic theatrics within symbols. Upon awaking, I then have to decipher what my mind was trying to say. A silent mind is only when I’m making art. My Ni and Ti have a symbiotic relationship and quietly looks out for one another. Clearly and precisely. So, yes, while making art I do get into quiet zone.

I mean a mind in a deep meditative state 24/7.

What I mean is that while doing any activity, the mind is silent.

I don't. This is a state that I aspire to though...

More often my mind is flitting around playing out what-ifs, or revisiting conversations trying to figure out alternate outcomes or meanings. I find that I can get to (relative) silence when I have a good yoga/meditation session or if I have a day off away from people without interruptions... but I think I only experience true silence rarely, when I exercise to exhaustion or am in the wilderness soaking up sunlight and wind and a sort of vast sense of timelessness cools my thoughts.

Not silent, no, although it feels quieter as I've gotten older.

As I've aged, I've learned to navigate through my mind and listen to countless voices at once, as if I was God listening to everyone's prayers, except I can actually answer them. I can archive internally, creating a sense of mental harmony, I suppose. When I was younger, I simply hadn't the resources or experience, so my mind came across as loud and overwhelming, at times I thought my head would explode.

The only time my mind went truly silent was when I had the flu.

As far as I know, everyone's mind is a chatter by default.

I've got one of these separating me from my mind. Dead quiet on this side. Who knows what happens on the other side.

Definitely not 24/7 but often. I sometimes wonder if it's related to my aphantasia. I have no internal visual imagery so in that sense my mind is always visually 'silent'.

I notice when it goes silent. I can notice when the orchestra stops playing and when they pick up again.

I've encountered a few people who claim they don't think in words and never have, but they thought in terms of images.

There's a clip where Karl Pilkington is talking about his inner monologue and Ricky Gervais seems to indicate that his mind doesn't work in the same way.

Here's an interesting one from reddit:

Then there was that NPC meme a while back which flushed out all kinds of people who don't have an inner voice:
