    Having someone on your side

When you feel the world is against you, would you rather have someone on your side or would you do it alone? I think both are possibilities to varying situations, but it's something I'd like to discuss.

This is so conflicting to my brain.

I would want somebody by my side who understands to share the experience with, but I also know when "the world is against me", I want to crawl into a dark hole at times and be left alone to think. Now that I think about it, I like to handle my problems on my own. I only ask for advice when I'm really lost and I can't make sense of the big picture. Even then I hate getting advice.

Yeah, this is a tough one. I guess I would want somebody to love and understand afterwards, but also somebody who understands that I need to seek my own answer and be left alone.

I'm sorry I asked such an odd question. I just felt this would make for a good discussion and it would help me understand how others, that have similar personalities to mine, would perceive it.

No worries. I actually liked the question, I just didn't know how to answer it for myself.

I'd like to have someone to agree with what I believe in and back me up, but I generally like to tackle the physical problem alone. Support, but not group work. Never group work. *shudder*

Definitely like to feel that I have someone on my side- in the sense that they understand me and agree with what I'm feeling. If I'm taking a stance against the world it's because I believe it's the "right" one for my situation - it may or may not be the "right" one for other people, but I've weighed all the different factors and decided that it's "right" for all involved. If everyone else is against me, I will take that into consideration and contemplate whether I'm the wrong one. So if I'm still holding tight to my position, then I'm deciding that it's everyone else who is "wrong."

In that situation, I'd really want at least one person who "sees the light" and sees where I'm coming from and fights for and with me. It would make the adversity easier to bear.

Sometimes I think people are afraid to stand up for the right thing because they're afraid of stepping on toes. In those instances, silence condones bad behavior and/or injustice. I would hope that someone would be strong enough or brave enough to stand up for me when the world is against me and to speak out against whatever "negative" force against me....

It's funny...if you had worded it "have someone helping you" I would have said I'd prefer to go at it alone...I suppose because someone "being on your side" can also be passive support/agreement is why I picked that option.

I prefer to take on my own problems, sometimes because I don't want to admit I have those problems, or because I don't want to burden the other person (orrrrr sometimes because the other person can't cut it, but this is rare). But when I'm being honest, a true friend helping me out is preferable. Trust is major issue in these scenarios. I don't want help or sympathy from people I don't trust, even if they seem to mean well. Been there, done that, garbage unfolded, not going there again!

Having someone in my side but the special one. I mean, I can handle my problems on my own but sometimes having that person telling you "I'm here if you fall" is nice. Not every friends can do that actually but there's always a person. But I always deal with my problems having someone on my side, in the right moment that somethings happens to me I always call to the person who is always is there for me.

I used to prefer to face my problems alone, that was the only way I knew how. I think it takes the right person to make you desire to have them by your side.

I tend to withdraw, but I definitely wish there was someone there.
