The same thing. On rare occasions I may try something new. I think I get anxious that I may not like any new choice and it would be a waste of money.

Most of the time I go into a restaurant for something specific. If it's a place I've been to many times before, I order the same thing; there's moments where I will get something different if I feel adventurous. When I'm going someplace I've never been before is usually when I'll try something completely new.

Me too, if I'm a recurring visitor then I want what I really liked last time. It's only when I go somewhere new that I try something new.

Also I'm a really picky eater

INTJ, but... I wanna play too!

It depends where I am, really. At IHOP, I almost always have the same thing. Because it's goddamn delicious. Occasionally I'll go for one other item on the menu that I like... and I sometimes admire the other food, because it looks so good, but generally that's the fancy topped waffles and crepes and what not. I couldn't eat that stuff anyway as I'm not good with sweets.

At the local pub, I generally order about 3 different things. Occasionally, I'll be in the mood for something else. But when I got to the bar, I'm usually going there for specific things.

Mostly, I'd have to say that I quite often order the same things over and over and over.

INTJ creature of habit, I guess.

I usually order the same thing, otherwise I'm sorely disappointed. On top of that, I can rarely stomach eating out. It makes me too anxious. I have OCD and I'm really concerned by other people's hygiene so I'm rarely comfortable enough to let someone serve me my meal as I will be too distracted by that to enjoy myself.

My relationship with durians is strictly r-rated.

I'm a pro at ordering since I have worked in catering for so many years and I pretty much know what I will get on my plate. There are things that I like and I will order them and if they're not on the menu or unavailable for some reason then I will go for 2nd...3rd option etc. I never order chicken and rarely salmon since I eat that at home very often. Mostly I like to start with some goats cheese or seafood, duck or steak for mains and finish with anything chocolatey.

This is pretty typical for me after checking the menu for few seconds:

Waiter: "Do you know what you want?"
    Me: "Always"

I used to only order my favorites while out, but now I am more adventurous and will try to order something new every time thanks to my boyfriend. Sometimes that can be difficult though, since I am vegan and certain restaurants have very few options haha.

Family style group dinners I would order a dish that adds variety to what other people have ordered. It may or may not be my fav.

If I would go to a new place, I tend to order their famous or signature dish. If they botched it, I would mostly not go there again (if they mess up signature dish, I am not confident they can do other dishes justice). My 2nd and 3rd visit I would order something that I may like or have seen others ordered that looked enticing. By the 4th time I would have developed a fav.

For now I have several places that serve something I like. Whenever a craving for a particular dish hits and if I am in close proximity, I would go get a take-out.

How do I decide on the fav? It has to be something that I like and don't cook at home (too many ingredients or too involved is the reason because I am a decent cook, can duplicate restaurant dishes). It has to be something the restaurant does well in authentic fashion. I used to work in various restaurants waiting tables therefore I knew when a dish was rarely ordered, it was for a reason or the chefs would be rusty when preparing it (therefore not tastes as good as the ones that are more popular). Also, the value stand point is important to me. If both dishes have the same price, I'd rather order the shrimp than the chicken. From working in the restaurant I know that they charge the inexpensive ones slightly higher (like chicken) to soften the margin for the expensive ones (like seafood).

In all honesty, I put a lot of subconscious thought (didn't analyze my order style until now when I saw the question) into what I order in a restaurant. It has to fit the 1. taste/authenticity, 2. value, 3. convenience (not driving 50 miles to get something), and 4. something I don't cook at home myself in order for the restaurants to get my repeat business. It is never random.

I like trying new things. Half the groceries I buy have 'limited' edition on them, lol.
