This is, why I begin to love this forum. You lay it on the line. It is that what we need to hear, even if we don't want to. It's the never ending struggle between feeling being wronged and "weee, life is so unfair!!"" on the one hand and feeling safe in our self-made cocoon on the other.

Thank you for this. I'm trying to sort out what this means in my life as I am most definitely stuck in a bit of a depressed rut right now. My last relationship ended over a year ago, and when I come across anyone I could even remotely consider dating, I just keep comparing her to my previous gf (who left me, by the way). And I think, how can she possibly compare to my ex? Then I start to think about all the times that I've tried to date and have failed. I think about my attempts at online dating and how unfruitful they have been. I remind myself continually how many times I've failed in the past, and each failure makes me think there's no point in continuing to try next time.

    It sucks.
