Self-explanatory thread...I know my fellow INFPs appreciate and enjoy a good simile or metaphor when they come across one! Mine are "Live life like the lottery, I call it the Big Game", "Fuck what you heard like my dick against your eardrum", "I'm just kicked back like Italics", "because all my kicks fly like Liu Kang", and my own that I came up with "Let's chill like a couple of penguins on an iceberg" ...go ahead, you may use it I'd give more of my favorites, but this is all I've got at the top of my head. Your turn!

The 56 best/worst similes has some good ones. My favorite from that list has to be: "She was as unhappy as when someone puts your cake out in the rain, and all the sweet green icing flows down and then you lose the recipe, and on top of that you can’t sing worth a damn."

But I'm too tired to think of an all-time favorite. Hmm..."So he waited, listening for a moment longer to the tuning-fork that had been struck upon a star," is a metaphor from my favorite book that's been bouncing around my head lately.

One that the girl I like told me:

Love is like a butterfly. If you hold it too tight or smother it, it'll die. Hold it lightly in your hand. Even if it just flies away, it was still truly beautiful and amazing.

Doesn't anybody have any favorite song lyrics that are metaphors?? Most of mine are song lyrics...

    One of my favourite quote.

"I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody."
    Bill Cosby

Yesterday I said this to a friend and she laughed her head off. It just came out of me.. hehe.
"... at least he is honest and does not make us sniff out these details"....

(On job hunting, honesty, and truth about a job position.)

Well, it's not a metaphor, but I rather like this quote about metaphors:
"The metaphor is one of the greatest inventions of the human mind, even though they do not recognize it as such. The average human considers a metaphor to be a waste of words, an inefficient way of talking or writing; a linguistic decoration. Is this not highly illogical? To express the ideas contained within a single poem by one of the masters of ‘normal speech’ would take many pages, if it is possible at all. The tools of poetry are far more powerful than the humans think.” – Jonas Kyratzes

If I had to pick a favorite metaphor though, it'd probably be something like this:
It was quite impossible to describe. Here is what it looked like. It looked like a piano sounds shortly after being dropped down a well. It tasted yellow, and it felt Paisley. It smelled like the total eclipse of the moon. - Terry Pratchett

'And I discovered that my castles stand upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand,' is a good one from Coldplay's Viva la Vida. It's also a biblical allusion that amounts to saying that the singer put his trust in the wrong people and wrong ideas. The song also has a bunch of other biblican allusions in it, even though it's not too concerned with religion. 'Be my mirror, my sword and shield,' is a metaphor from the same song that I like quite a lot.

Landscape by Florence and the Machine seems to compare depression/grief to a weed growing in the landscape of someone's life (growing in the landscape darling, in between you and me...). All This and Heaven Too, also by Florence, indicates that love is a strange language (and the hardest heart to translate, it has a language of its own, it talks in tongues and quiet sighs and prayers and proclomations...) that the singer would give everything (and heaven too) to understand.

    I'm all over the love/light dark/fear metaphor.

    On Pain
    Kahlil Gibran

Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.
Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.
    And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy;
And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields.
And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief.

Much of your pain is self-chosen.
It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self.
Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquillity:
For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the Unseen,
And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has been fashioned of the clay which the Potter has moistened with His own sacred tears.
Nothing wrong with a little bit of Gibran, though.
