I am an INFP and I'm currently studying nursing. Just interested to see if there any others out there on PerC who are in the healthcare field? How are you finding it, and do you think it is a suitable career for your personality type?

Cheers everyone! xo

I've been working as a nurse for just shy of four years now, three of those years in outpatient/residential psych. I've greatly enjoyed my job and helping the underserved where I live. I actually enjoy pretty much all aspects of nursing and feel that if you are relatively good at separating yourself and preventing empathy from turning into sympathy, you can do great things as a nurse.

Good luck!

Can you elaborate on this, please?

Good Luck on your National Registry!!!

I have been in EMS for seven Years. Started out as an EMT Basic and two years ago became a medic. I work part time for the ambulance service in my community and I am also a Firefighter. My community doesn't support Full-Time Fire and EMS so I also have to work another job to support myself, but I am working on getting hired in on one of the bigger cities close by.

I love helping people. I have seen some amazing things over the last seven years. It is the perfect career for my personality. I have more long range plans of going into nursing maybe in a few years.

I work as an addictions counsellor in a residential treatment centre. Frustrating job at times, but very rewarding. The one downside of INFPs working in helping fields is that we do care, which is also why we are in the field. It is easy to take your work home and think about the people you are helping when you are at home. We really need to establish boundaries and take very good care of ourselves. Self care is EXTREMELY important.

Quoted and emphasized because this can't be said enough.

OP, your avatar makes me hungry, LOL.
I'm a qualified medical laboratory technologist. Been doing it on and off for ten years. I'm actually planning on starting a Psych degree next year though. I agree with the poster about self care and setting boundries. We care more, but we burn out faster. I am very lucky that my boss of the moment acknowleges the burnout factor (my job is extremely high pressure at times), how ever bad employers can and do take advantage of our dedication.
