Hey!
I have an INFP girlfriend and have learnt a considerable amount about INFP-kind. I think you folk are absolutely amazing, and I love INFPs from the bottom of my heart!!!

I was just curious - how does INFP-kind view their extraverted counterpart? I think every ENFP is curious as to how people view them..
And come on - be honest...

This is open to other MBTI types, but INFP input is valued the most..

Infps are "glass half empty"s and enfps are "glass half full"s.
How do you figure? That has nothing to do with introversion/extroversion. I don't think that anyone would describe me as a "glass half full" person. I'm usually explaining that I'm a realist, not a pessimist.

Whether or not the glass is half full or half empty depends on its original state in order to compare. Did it start empty and get filled up halfway, or did it start full and have half of the liquid poured out?

A few of my closest friends are ENFPs. I can't make any generalizations about ENFPs as a whole, but I can say two things about my friends. They're incredibly clever and can make anything funny, so they're always a blast for me to be around. We have a lot of the same interests and tend to have similar ways of looking at things, but their humor and their intuition just seem to come much more naturally than do mine. On the flipside, my friends also tend to be a little flaky. For example, they'll cancel plans with you if they feel like taking a nap or if they simply change their minds on a whim. That can be a little difficult for me to deal with because of my own insecurity with making plans with people in the first place. (My ENFP friends are very stereotypically "P." They make me look like such a stickler.)

Oh, and I love how compassionate one of my ENFP friends is, in particular (the one I know best). She is always thinking of other people, always looking out for the underdog, and although she is extroverted and has a much larger social circle than do I, she interacts with people on a very personal level, which I definitely admire. She makes every person she meets feel important. I kind of wish I could be more like her.

I think the giant ATTENTION in the thread title says everything.

Just kidding, just kidding.

I'm not quite sure that I know any, but judging by the forum... they seem to be awesome people that I think I'd instantly be interested in and drawn to. I'm not always quiet, so I think they'd be the type of people that I'd blabber on with about silly things, and then randomly have a serious, deep discussion with.

Yeah I came in here to say this

Anyway, the funniest person I've ever met was an enfp. He was socially brilliant - opperating at a higher level than anyone around him. Our relationship ended one night when I got drunk and was talking about death and my nihilism and he threw a bottle at my head because I was being too negative and bringing the vibes down

Hello.

I have an ENFP boyfriend, I adore him so much. ^^ I think we complement each other wonderfully.

He is playful and affectionate and loves humour. He can always find the sunshine no matter how much the sky is raining.

He even finds my weird awkwardness (and jokes with no punchlines) to be funny and endearing, which perplexes me but I am so thankful!

Most of all I love the sincerity that ENFPs convey. I feel safe with them. :proud:

Hehe.. Aww... I completely understand. I found that INFP has become an amazing compliment for me. I never realized just how good it would be.. .. I feel safe with INFPs.. They are warm and squishy and lovely.. Even when they are awkward they are hilarious to poke fun at... ok I joke.. Love you guys.. I think the ENFP <--> INFP relationship dynamic is a complete win!

- In terms of depressive / angered ENFPs and INFPs -- ENFPs are the worst to be around. They're more incline to cause a scene / drag you down with them, if you ask me.
@Lad - I am certainly not going to disagree with you there. I have found that the worst personality type to be around when they are in a bad mood is the ENFP. I have found that from my experience and the experiences of others, we seldom get angry, but when it happens (which is once every 5 - 6 leap years) a 25 megaton explosion is set off in your face leaving a gigantic crater in the ground.. no.. not safe at all.. Don't trip on the ENFP value switch too much.. Something seriously bad will happen..

in addition, looking at if infp's would change one letter, i think that enfp would be easily possible.
@Michael82 - In effect you are actually changing more than one letter. ENFPs are dominantly Intuitive followed by auxiliary feeling. INFPs are the other way around. As an ENFP who rates 95-100% scores on Intuition every time, I would find it incredibly difficult to become an INFP. My guess is this would be the same way for an INFP if their Introverted feeling function were very high.
Thoughts, comments?

I don't agree with any of these 3 statements. I have many ENFP friends, I am one, I live with another one, and I spend a lot of time on the ENFP forum. Those definitely are not ENFP traits.

You must know some very immature and/or unhealthy ENFPs or people who are mistyped, perhaps ENTPs who subconsciously want to seem more feely, or ENFJs who want to seem more spontaneous/chill.
@hmwith - Seriously sounds like an ENFJ. I know three ENFJs and they all seem to act that way. I can relate to them in some ways, but their mood-swings, extreme competition, etc. I did not understand at all.. Those character traits describe every ENFJ that I know. And considering I know one who is male and in his early 20s, one who is female in her mid 20s and one who is female and in her late 70s, I've seen those traits emerge a few times...

sometimes overly positive...
LOL!!!!!!

- Warm personalities which often make them well-liked. In terms of meeting new people this can be great, but other types may be skeptical at first.

- Many consider Romeo to be an ENFP -- take from that what you will.

- In terms of depressive / angered ENFPs and INFPs -- ENFPs are the worst to be around. They're more incline to cause a scene / drag you down with them, if you ask me.

- I believe they're compassionate people, but may juggle around too many ties at once. This can lead to the above ^.

- Are likely to have more positive/negative relationships + reach greater levels of personal success than most INFPs will.

- I suspect an unhealthy ENFP is more likely to kill themselves / make serious attempts of suicide vs an unhealthy INFP.

inspiring, a bit more judgmental than infp's. i also see enfp's as "selectively inspired" whereas infp's are "selectively motivated". i suppose that motivation for infp's is requiring more deep thought whereas motivation for inspirers rather comes from their surroundings. i also think enfp's are more engulfing, as in devoted to life.

in addition, looking at if infp's would change one letter, i think that enfp would be easily possible. inspiration lies close to being helpful, and an infp would find it fun to take up energy to inspire other people, in that way being helpful.

It depends on the particular ENFP. Some of them embody all the wonderful qualities of ENFPs - warm, friendly, fun, intelligent, crazy (I mean that in a good way) etc

Others however ... take my mum. She's what I would generally consider an unhealthy ENFP (outside of work): she doesn't think before she speaks (and that can be so frustrating and very hurtful), she's clingy, she's irrational and waaay too sensitive, she lacks so much common sense it's astounding.

That being said, she does embody some of the best qualities of ENFPs as well. She's a fabulous doctor - extremely empathetic to her patients (if only that could be quality she possessed around me ... ), very intuitive and intelligent and caring when it comes to her job. She's got an awesome set of internal ethics that some doctors really don't possess. Also, all her ideas when it comes to academic side of her profession are extremely inventive and groundbreaking (I know this because I've been her informal research assistant for like 6 years now and I've basically all the body of literature in her area).

so, ENFPs ... yeah, it depends.

I have an ENFP friend and my only sister is an ENFP :) I quite adore them. They are just like me but totally different. Kind of, who I'd want to be, actually, because they are so irreverent and fun, like me, but more comfortable around others and going out and doing things.
My sister though when angered is very irrational and touchy. She gets really upset by people doing things like losing her stuff, borrowing things and not returning it, not appreciating gifts or her time, but she does the same thing all the time-- she's lost like all my gifts to her and borrowed some art I gave her for her move and didn't bother to tell me she lost it. If you call her out on something she goes for your sore points... not on purpose, she just feels the emotions really strongly at some point and feels if you're not sympathizing your against her. So, she's sometimes a little inconsiderate, yeah.

My best friend is an ENFP and we're hilarious with each other. We can really be ourselves with one another, no matter what mood. We usually tend to be in the same mood, at the same time, and know what each other is thinking/feeling. It's kind of strange, we'll both be in a crazy mood and sometimes people think we're high haha.. The only thing that bothers me sometimes about her is when she flakes out on me. I don't hold it against her, I understand that it doesn't really have to do with me, but it gets annoying.... usually no one can keep up with us, together we seem like we're in our own universe.

Well, I'll start off by saying that I adore ENFPs. Both my dad and best friend are ENFPs. However, I think you guys already know how great you are, so I'm going to focus on things I've noticed in both of them that drive me absolutely crazy.

-Very likely to switch from one mood to the next at the drop of a hat, oftentimes over things that seem inconsequential to me.
-Can be full of themselves.
-Can be quite judgmental... And they don't seem it at first, but once you get to know them, some of the things they say surprise you.
-Likely to make everything into a competition, even negative things like who's more depressed or whose anxiety is worse.

All of that said though, they're still my favorite type to be friends with!

My best friend is an ENFP. To be honest, I'm kinda jealous of your ability to be yourselves no matter what. You don't seem to have a lot of the fear that comes along with being an INFP... But maybe I'm wrong?

@glisten - are you sure they were ENFPs? .. The ENFPs I know have self-image issues more than anything - I think you are confusing us with ENFJs.. Because you are describing the ENFJs I know.. ENFPs are ENFJs who couldn't give a rats..

I have been told many times (and have reflected on this with a couple other fellow ENFPs) that people like us, because we accept people where at. I find judgemental behaviour irritating, and almost as harmful as manipulation..
However, with that being said - For the things I feel passionate about, I sometimes will hold an opinion... I will defend something if a value switch is triggered, but that rarely happens..

Just some insight into the ENFP mind..

They have both taken the test multiple times and tested as ENFP every time, so yes, I think it's safe to say they are.

These are just my observations of two people, though. It could just be coincidental and have nothing to do with their personality type.

I have an ENFP best friend who is absolutely adorable.
The main difference though is probably the way she is so much more confident than me. I have 2 other INFP friends and we are all so alike, except she often is the leader, or the loudest at least. She is quicker to judge than myself and my INFP friends though, and probably a bit more forthcoming in her opinions of things..
Definitely agree with the ENFPs being a bit flaky. But then whenever someone does it to her she gets very hurt.
I'm not sure how much of this is the E/I difference, or just different strengths of the NFPness, but regardless, I love my ENFP ;D

I have met two for sure.
There is a wonderful understanding about them.
basically, EyE LiKeS TheM, ANd wanTs To HuG THem ALL!!

Enfps...
:D

They are amazing and I love how I can speak ENFP... and she speaks INFP... We understand eachother a lot.
I think it's funny how most people think they are very stupid, but they never are...
Shes a dork.
Ummm...
we debate the subjective... ALOT :)
Everyone always thinks we are fighting, or they tell us to "just stop"
I hate when they tell us to stop...

Only complaints...
Can be flaky
sometimes overly positive...
LIKES TO CHALLENGE ALMOST EVERTHING I SAY!!!
:D

I love to ride on the wave of her adventures.

Well.. I knew an ENFP guy before, but we were just acquaintances. And I know he was an ENFP because he had taken the test and told me so :p.

I viewed him as extremely outgoing & very friendly. Even though I hadn't known him long, I had the initial impression of him being a very open & accepting person because of the way he interacted with others... I could tell that he probably enjoyed learning about people and getting close emotionally. I was amazed at how outgoing he seemed (he could get along with anyone he randomly sat with probably).. but because that's so different from how I normally am (Even though I can be friendly.. I'm usually shy/quiet) he kind of intimidated me :p... I felt like I couldn't really keep up with him as I didn't think I was exciting enough to keep his interest lol. He seemed the type to flit from person to person (not because he's flaky, but because he gets along with everyone & is interested in a wide range of people). A very curious personality, and liked to have fun.. seemed the 'live for the moment' kind of guy.

Our interaction was very harmonious & always generated positive feelings... we were both very accommodating & gave each other compliments openly without too much embarrassment.. and his personality was very flirty.. but I think my friendly personality could have been flirty too lol. His presence had a familiar sort of feeling since we seemed similar on the inside, except we were opposite in being introverted/extroverted.

I think because I sensed his friendliness & openness, I was able to talk to him openly about things very soon.. and that seemed to perk his interest in me. And I in turn found him interesting to talk to because he also told me private things and we talked somewhat deeply about feelings and such, and it didn't seem weird/awkward/forced like it would be with some people (like my T friends lol). He seemed to enjoy those kinds of talks as much as I did.

A friend of mine is an ENFP. She's one of the nicest people I know, very sympathetic and always looking out for everyone else. She's stated a goal of hers is to make at least one person smile each day.
Although extremely optimistic, she's also quite sensitive. Sometimes she gets pretty depressed though, and she doesn't hide it... people around her feel obligated to reassure her/check up on her, but she'll get back on her feet soon enough.
I really admire how warm and open she is, and how she can genuinely get along with practically everyone. She's so sincere too.
Personally, I think that I connect more with introverts though... but just having her around makes me happier. She's a wonderful person to know, and she really inspires me at times.

ANNOYING >< lol I live with three............ one my mom, two my sister, and three my brother, me and my dad are the only INFPs =_= ENFP's are cool to hang out with but exhausting to live with ......... when your trying to have peace and listen to music, they charge in the room and make you go outside with them and venture into the woods where you end up getting stuck in a mud pit =_= I had to save my sister because of the situation, she panicked and thought the mud was going to eat her, it was like quick sand but with a ton of mud in the rain, idk if this is just my three ENFP's but they don't understand me at all, they get the messiness, because there 3 times worse but they don't understand my creativity or my views on things and constantly think there right, and then once proven wrong they still act like they were right =_=, this is just my brother but he likes to make a weird scene in stores, like yells vagina in the middle of wal-mart because he saw it on a box or something, times like that its pretty fun but embarrassing at times to, I love them but I don't think I am good at handling ENFPs! XD

My sister is ENFP. She's a passionate person who runs her own business (she teaches the MBTI, actually). Sometimes I find her a bit nosy and full-on. Generally we get on however. She remind me of Bridget Jones sometimes! In a good way though! :)
