    INFPs and Driving

    Hello all!

I've recently become particularly fascinated by people's behavior behind the wheel. I can get my license in a bit less than two months, so I've spent extensive time driving with my permit, and I've really come to enjoy it. I've developed some habits and adopted certain attitudes towards road events, and I find it quite interesting to see these things develop in other drivers, too.

So... I'm curious and would like to ask you all:

    1. Do you enjoy driving? Why or why not?

    2. Do you tend to be more patient or irritable behind the wheel? If irritable, which actions of other drivers frustrate you the most? If patient, please teach me your ways

    3. Do you have any particular habits that you have developed while driving? (This can include things like hand position on the wheel, how often you check your mirrors, or other quirky little things.)

    4. Do you have a soundtrack or certain types of songs that you like to listen to while driving?

Other types, feel free to either answer as well or describe the driving styles of any INFP friends and family members (I'd love to hear both!).

    Cheers!

    1. YES oh yes, freedom and the ability to be alone at the same TIME?!

    2. Irritable mostly, but it depends on the day honestly, other drivers move too slow/fast, don't use blinkers/dom't turn off blinkers, ect

3.windows down left hand either out the window or on top the wheel, right hand either on the shifter on holdint the wheel at 4 o'clock.

4.EDM when I'm just cruzing, Industrial Metal when I gotta be somewhere

    1. Do you enjoy driving? Why or why not?
I love driving. It allows me to go places I normally couldn't go. The rural county in which I live in has zero public transportation. There isn't even a Greyhound bus stop.

    2. Do you tend to be more patient or irritable behind the wheel? If irritable, which actions of other drivers frustrate you the most? If patient, please teach me your ways
I talk to myself about the actions of other drivers. Texting drivers and tailgaters annoy me greatly. These people are total a-holes.

    3. Do you have any particular habits that you have developed while driving? (This can include things like hand position on the wheel, how often you check your mirrors, or other quirky little things.)
I use cruise control a lot. This prevents me from going too far over the speed limit. It also keeps the speed consistent which I think is courteous to people behind me.

If someone is tailgating me I pull over and let them pass. If I'm unable to do that, I put rear view mirror "up." and make a concerted effort to ignore them. I'm sure that's arguably dangerous, but me having a stroke on the road is also dangerous.

    4. Do you have a soundtrack or certain types of songs that you like to listen to while driving?
I can't listen to music and drive well at the same time. I begin to daydream about the song I'm listening to. An INFP daydreaming is about as dangerous as driving drunk or texting.

    1. Do you enjoy driving? Why or why not?
Love driving. It satisfies my need for freedom. Whether that's freedom to go somewhere random to have a thought, freedom not to live right next to my job (or freedom to not take mass transit, which is great for the environment but I feel anxious on it).

    2. Do you tend to be more patient or irritable behind the wheel? If irritable, which actions of other drivers frustrate you the most? If patient, please teach me your ways

When I started driving, my commute was terrible. I needed to budget an hour to go 8 miles to my job; and driving back wasn't much better. I decided that feeling angry about it wasn't helping me in any way, so I stopped being impatient.

That doesn't the odd drag racer, non-indicating turner, or two lane merger never gets to me, but I'm far less likely to let it ruin my mood.

    3. Do you have any particular habits that you have developed while driving? (This can include things like hand position on the wheel, how often you check your mirrors, or other quirky little things.)

I always indicate no matter how minor a turn is. So I'll indicate in parking lots and everything else. It was to make sure I memorized that action while learning to drive.

    4. Do you have a soundtrack or certain types of songs that you like to listen to while driving?

Depends on my mood. Usually have Modest Mouse's Pandora station on, but I have a six CD changer and plenty of disks in my collection.

Living in a car-populated city. I do not enjoy driving. Cautious + Worry all the time = no fun.

Both, I am patient when I am in good mood, being sympathetic to others.(Oh... that driver may have emergency or having a bad day, that fine :) )
I am irritable when I am in bad mood or in a rush. (Did that driver just brute force himself inside my lane, ARGH )
Anyway,as a traffic jam goes on, my mood will gradually worsen overtime. ( No worries this traffic jam will be gone soon -> ARGH those selfish ******** causing them traffic jams)

Any favorable songs that least promote daydreaming.

This is me as well. I have road anxiety, so I am a slower driver. It's annoying to other drivers, but as long as my driving is not putting someone in danger, that's all I'm concerned about.

    1.

    I like it.
I especially like driving during the night, alone, for long distances, high speeds on long roads.

    2.

I don't care enough to express my frustration, I usually assume people make mistakes.
I'm pretty passive when driving and don't want any trouble. What a surprise.

    3.

I love cruise control since I can stay at a constant speed. Also, I can't drive with both hands on the wheel cause it feels awkward if i do that. Driving in general is sort of awkward though and that's always in the back of my mind.

    4.

Whatever sounds good, as long as it isn't radio. I hate the radio.

    1. I do enjoy driving. There is a sense of freedom, independence, and responsibility.
    2. More patient, unless people in front of me are driving slow and/or I am in a hurry.
    3. I tend to be more of a rule-follower, with the exception of the posted speed limit, especially on the interstate.
    4. Not really. I listen to a lot of talk radio, actually, especially if it's a program or subject I really enjoy.

    1. Do you enjoy driving? Why or why not?

It depends on the circumstance. On long, quiet roads I really love driving. It generates feelings of freedom, solitude, movement, distance, escape, travel - creates a very warm experience. In traffic-filled areas or in dense cities driving can be very stressful and not very enjoyable.

    2. Do you tend to be more patient or irritable behind the wheel? If irritable, which actions of other drivers frustrate you the most? If patient, please teach me your ways

I am very patient behind the wheel. The only things that irritate me about other drivers is if they are being blatantly inconsiderate by not letting someone else merge. I am not generally bothered by people cutting it or doing other strange things - don't really care what other people do usually, mostly focused on my own driving experience.

    3. Do you have any particular habits that you have developed while driving? (This can include things like hand position on the wheel, how often you check your mirrors, or other quirky little things.)

I don't really have many idiosyncrasies with my driving that I can think of. I always like to drive in the middle lane. I always indicate even in dead empty streets. I usually drive with just one hand on the wheel.

    4. Do you have a soundtrack or certain types of songs that you like to listen to while driving?

I usually don't listen to anything - I enjoy driving in the quiet. Otherwise I like listening to instrumental or classical music whilst driving - in particular mellower pieces (American Beauty soundtrack, Interstellar soundtrack, Elgar Cello Concerto, Nocturnes etc.)

    1. Do you enjoy driving? Why or why not?
I've only had my license for about six months. I have to say that I like it sometimes, but most of the time I don't. Where I live, there's just too many cars. I like driving at night though when it's dark and there's less cars on the street. I also don't own a car and I'm not planning to get one since I'm going to try finding a place to live in the city where having one would be way worse than not having one. It's also pretty bad for the environment, so I try to take public transportation whenever possible.

    2. Do you tend to be more patient or irritable behind the wheel? If irritable, which actions of other drivers frustrate you the most? If patient, please teach me your ways
I'm rather patient but I tend to lose my temper when there's other drivers who don't follow the rules. Like when someone doesn't use their blinkers or when people drive too fast (why do people do this????) or when they aren't considerate towards cyclists or pedestrians (don't people realize that they're in a super heavy, metal construction that could kill someone in the blink of an eye??).

I also get irritated when there's drivers that honk at me (this is not even allowed where I live, unless in a very dangerous situation) because they think I'm driving too slow (I don't drive too slow btw) or when they drive too close behind me (I need space ppl!!).

    3. Do you have any particular habits that you have developed while driving? (This can include things like hand position on the wheel, how often you check your mirrors, or other quirky little things.)
I'm a new driver, so I still keep my hands at the 10 and 2-o-clock positions like I've been taught haha. Plus I like to check my mirrors as often as possible to have a good idea of everything that's going on around me.

Sometimes I like making car sounds while driving haha.

    4. Do you have a soundtrack or certain types of songs that you like to listen to while driving?
Not really. While I learned how to drive I didn't listen to any music. Now I just sort of listen to the radio. I guess any song that I like would be good to drive to.
