    Training Ni for an ESTP

    Hello,
Iím in the process of starting a business, and would be interested to hear your opinion on this if possible.
If I could train my Ni, what sort of exercises would you recommend I do to go there, into that mental state?

Thought Iíd ask the best of the bunch and hope I get some replies.

    Thanks people, Iím very interested.

Are you saying you want to use your Ni to support your business enterprise?

    No, just for self development.

I would suggest lateral thinking exercises. That's basically about associating things that aren't so straightforward.

    Here is an example:
Feet - Pokemon (I like Snorlax's feet) - baking (Pikachu is a detective, Sherlock Holmes lives on Baker St) - aloe vera (to treat sunburn). Then you can do something silly like write a story about a Pokemon with sunburnt feet.

This may sound useless but it isn't - it helps you improvise in convo allowing you to make off the cuff jokes or come up with ideas faster. Basically, it is about using your imagination.

There are lots of lateral thinking puzzles online, too.

    Assuming you are being courteous.

Learn to pause. Learn to restrain. Learn to reflect upon.

Meditation might help. Or looking through body of water in the middle of the night, enjoing the scene while letting your mind wander. Far far away.

    Sounds impossible?

What's funny is that I can't meditate. Or restrain. My reflection feels like it's on crack most of the time. I could never just sit and stare at a body of water. I do stare off into space much of the time, but it's never because I was first peacefully looking at anything.

Ni for me is totally different. It involves active engagement with the invisible world I can't see. Mine is the less socially acceptable form of Ni usage. You have to risk looking like a total crazy person.

That's a tough one. Since you are ESTP, Se and Ni will always be duking it out. Ni is about patterns, associations, predictions.

Maybe try exercises in prediction, using Se to ease in gently. Take a picture of some people, and look for clues as to what they are doing and why. I bet you'll be good at that, because that plays to your Se strengths. But then play another game with it - start trying to predict what happens next, what possible outcomes might be down the road, how that will impact other aspects of their life. What will these people be doing in 10 years? Make some guesses, based on the picture. That's a form of Ni at play.

Here's another exercise, focused on association and how people use symbols to convey layers of meaning. Ni loves this stuff. Take a symbol, such as a team logo - say, the Broncos. Then ask yourself, why did they pick that symbol? What feelings and associations are they hoping to convey? How has the logo changed over the years? What do the changes imply about their message?

You can do this with words, too (words are also symbols). Take these two words:

    Mother Father

List the literal meaning, then all the other emotions and associations you can think of related to each. How are they different? The same? What do your associations say about your childhood? Would people from other families have the same associations? What about people from other cultures, would they come up with a different list?

I don't know if these will work at all. As an ESTP user, you will probably find them annoying and tiresome. It might be better to focus on developing Ti - Ti is more accessible, and is valuable to balance and evaluate your dominant Se.

Yeah, I agree with @Green Girl . You'd be better off developing your Ti and Fe. Trying to engage with Ni may work for you, but for the majority of Se doms, trying to actively engage with Ni will be tiresome and likely inadequate in breadth. Especially when there a whole host of business services out there that can do the Ni stuff for you.

It also helps if you can manage to marry an Ni dom like an INTJ or INFJ. That way you can outsource the Ni stuff to her and you can trust it'll be her best work.

I know, I thought I found one but couldn’t have because she’s fucking useless.
