    INTJ Troubles with Extroverts

I am the only introvert born into a completly extraverted family and they don't seem to understand me at all. Whenever I spend time alone they think i'm depressed. Any help?

I'd explain the problem to them in a very clear, logical, and rational manner (as I'd expect an INTJ to do, anyway).

    Say something like this:

"Ok, guys, look. You obviously know that I am the only introvert in this family. You often think that I am depressed by being by myself a lot. Truth is, folks, I'm not depressed in the slightest. I just like being by myself and working on my own.

You all are extroverts. That means that you enjoy spending a lot of time around people, chatting and talking and going to parties and hanging out at the mall or whatever. There is nothing wrong with that; it's just that I don't like to do that kind of stuff- I'd rather sit at home and read a book, watch some TV, etcetera. Just because I prefer solitude doesn't mean I'm depressed. It means I'm an introvert, which is not someone who hates people. I don't hate people, I just prefer to be alone more often than not. I love you guys deeply; however, I am not depressed. I'm just more oriented towards working in my head and thinking a lot, rather than being more extroverted like y'all, again with which there is nothing wrong. If we all work together we can develop a better understanding of one another through our words and actions."

I empathize with you, fellow introvert. Hopefully they will begin to understand soon.

They seem to not even know what an introvert is, not to mention what a INTJ is. xD You should explain it to them and make sure they understand who they are and how they act. The above comment explained it very well, so I don't think I have to go much further in explination. owo Everyone seems to misunderstand me as well, but I am asocial along with my INTJ personality, but I guess that's not every INTJ, so it's a bit different for me..

Best advice you can get: Bare with it, but work to move into your own place.

Thank god I'm surrounded by introverts.

I'm looking back on my childhood now and thinking, wow, so that's why that aspect of my life was so pleasant.

I come from a mostly extroverted family too, so I feel your pain. My ESFJ mom was the hardest to deal with because she would constantly interrupt me and felt rejected when I didn't want to spend time with her. She didn't understand what an introvert was so I simply explained to her that I need 'alone time'. This became a key phrase I would use when I needed to recharge and it helped her take my retreats less personally. After years of training she now asks me upfront if I need alone time and tells other people not to interrupt me when I do, lol. It worked!

A piece of advice(?) if things get rough(?) and loud. Use this: 'So dear unconditionally loving immediate family members, would you like me to go down on one knee, cry a fucking river and apologize for being who I am?' Its so sarcastic(?) it portrays a very strong personality, and it bites like a piranha. Try it, guilt trip them because it's usually what they need.
