I need to email an INTJ by tomorrow morning, thanking them for helping me on something. but i really dont know what the best way is - i want to let them know i really appreciate it, but i dont know how to without being emotional.
usually when i am excited about something and thankful, this is what i do "thanks SO MUCH! " but i cant because we're in a formal/professional relationship. i sorta want to write them an email telling them i appreciate them blah blah, but it feels like i might be overdoing it. so what's a good, brief way to thank them and also let them know i respect their intelligence, etc? oh, and if it helps i like this person.
Thanks for your assistance with PROBLEM. I'm glad you to took the time out of your day to assist me as it really helped to quickly bring things to a close and it was really appreciated.
From my experiences with INTJ's, a very brief thank you note like Jim illustrated will do the trick. Just a simple acknowledgment of their contribution and expression of gratitude. You don't want to look like you're sucking up to them.
If you can make it even shorter than that, go ahead. It depends a bit on the grandeur of the favor, but I would accept a one-sentence thank you, as I gain satisfaction more from knowing what the person was able to accomplish with my help.
In fact, you might want to give the INTJ a brief over about how something went, if it's that sort of thing.
I like what Jim said. If you think that's too stiff and you don't want to be as such, then throw in a smiley (one is the maximum recommended amount. With two, my eyes gloss over). But yeah, make it brief and concise. It's better than fluff.
I agree with the other INTJ's. If you put a lot of fluff or feeling into a "thank you" email, you're more likely to push the INTJ away... be concise. It really is how we like it.
I'm not too sure about other INTJs but I don't take praise too well. It makes me feel awkward as most of the time, what other people might consider above and beyond is just me trying to do my job.
Just say it once and don't mention it again. You can, if you want buy him lunch but no more than that.
Speak for yourself... I love praise! I am an egomaniac. Actually, if I've taken a lot of time and thought over something then I appreciate praise, but if I get praise for something trivial then I get suspicious.
In response to the OP - "thanks very much mate!" would do for me.
The fact of the thanks is what is important, not the formulation. Everyone likes to feel appreciated regardless of personality type. Maybe even more so with INTJs because we're usually too reserved to put ourselves out there in a traditional "helping" role. I appreciate receiving thanks just as much if it is in the normal style of the giver (even laden with smileys) rather than in my style.
Actually I have addendum that is not time sensitive and applicable even years after the case:
"Thanks for the help, I owe you one"
Nothing better than a favor you can call upon.
Here's an example:
INFJ: "Yadda yadda yadda yadda emotions blah blah blah"
INTJ: "remember that favor you owe me?"
INFJ: "....yeah"
INTJ: "Good, shut up and don't take it personally and we call it even."
INFJ: "*sulks*"
