How do you guys dress? I've read that INTPs don't care about their appearance, and that they tend to dress inappropriately for certain situations.

In my case I like to look good. I don't follow fashion trends though, and for the most part I tend to avoid them. A few years ago I bought a members only jacket because I thought it was cool. Since then they've apparently come back into style, so I stopped wearing it.

I like to be seen as different, but not in the sense that I'm trying to be different at all costs. In middle school I didn't care, I was fat and wore shorts and a t-shirt. In HS I started dressing nicer. I wore slacks all the time, with a button up or polo shirt tucked in. I also sometimes wore a tweed sportcoat I found at the goodwill ($12!!!). I always wore my navy blue vans. Girls liked it, I looked good, and life was great.

In college I started dressing more mainstream, mainly because my school is more judgmental than most. I just started wearing jeans a year ago after a 6 year hiatus. I still prefer buttonups and polos to tees, but I force myself to wear t-shirts more often now ( and I no longer tuck them in). My vans are for special occasions now, since in my opinion they clash with the bluejeans.

    Things I like:

Jackets- an essential for me, I don't really know why. I have a leather members only (not the classic pattern, but something I've never seen anywhere else, so i still wear it), a green tweed jacket, and a green tweed sportcoat. I alternate between the tweed jacket and the leather members only.

Slacks- wear them less now but I like how they are comfortable.

Buttonup oxford shirts- light blue is my favorite. I like to roll the sleeves.

    classic vans- duhhhhhh

Retro- I love finding retro stuff in my grandpa's closet or at thrift stores. My overall style is very clasic, I found this red-purple knit rayon 70's polo with a huge collar at my grandpa's house. its my favorite shirt of all time, only for special occasions.

parted hair- was longer in HS but now I have to do a military style part. Both are good in my book.

    Things I hate:

Dressing in warm weather- I have a lot of trouble doing this. Being from socal, a polo and slacks is my summer attire, but i learned the hard way not to wear this to the beach.

Trendy stuff- I'll even avoid things I liked previously just because they're back in style. Remember that episode of Doug?

    Sweatshirts/hoodies- never.

    skate shoes- nope

long hair- on guys, of course

spiked hair- lame, even though its out of style (i think) I would never do this

girls jeans on guys- I don't understand this at all.

In general I care greatly about my appearance but have trouble with overdressing.

...i'll never understand the point of abandoning something you like just because it's becoming mainstream. if you like it, you like it. that should be where the process ends.

anyway, i dunno. i used to make a point of dressing weirdly, but not because i wanted to be weird as much as my taste was a bit out of the norm. and to be honest i still like all that stuff, i just can't be arsed to put together outfits like that anymore. so, depending on the day, i'll just do jeans and a shirt and a hoodie, or maybe something a little more artsy -- you know, play around with layers and colors and whatnot. i don't restrict myself to any "style" or "fashion". i just wear whatever i want.

looks are certainly important to me, though. could be 'cause i'm a lady. it seems to me guys get away with dressing lazily/slobby a lot easier than girls do. i dunno, could just be me.

My style is "skater from the 90s."

My dressing style has evolved lately from what it used to be. In the beginning of high school I had a couple of tees that I wore all the time and wore blue jeans a lot with running shoes. I really only wore polos and button ups near the end of high school. When I got here to college I had reverted back to dressing comfy over style this was last year. Now Im slowly making an effort to look nice polos, button ups, khaki pants, dresser shoes then running shoe and usually a hat. As Im finding out how comfy these clothes are they are becoming more of my wardrobe. Right now Im trying to figure out which colors look well together. I tend to keep my colors dark when Im dressing so that I look nice but my outfit doesn't yell HEY LOOK AT ME!. Which is something I joke with my ESFJ he likes to dress to be noticed. Example was we were all going somewhere in suits majority being black suits and he walks out in a red suit.

Anyway for my not list I really hate bright colors and to many stripes. Shirts with big logos on the front I really hate and polos that are more then the little emblem on the shirt. I do not like spiked hair on me but its fun to play with on other peoples head . I barely like to do anything with my hair then put a hat on it that its basically became habit.

I like to wear what ever I think is nice and am often critized by my mom, because I wear really strange combinations of clothing (nothing matches.. ever), but as long as I like it, that's good enough for me. It always works out somehow in the end. Also, I'm kinda seen as the fashonista to my friends, which I find utterly laughable, because I really don't put that much thought into it and I never follow fashion trends because it's just stupid to dress a certain way because it's "popular". I think you should just wear what you like. I guess it's just my inner rebel blabing again

There are some times when I'm just so tired, cold and there is nothing washed that I just go "f*ck it!" and throw on whatever is comfortable and warm (this happens a lot in the winter) because I can't really bother to make a decent outfit that is warm and partially because my brain is not fully functioning.

    Things I like:

Lots and lots of skirts - Long, short, fluffy, etc. Patterns are nice too.
Stockings - Stripes, lace, knitted, you name it. As I mentioned I love skirts and wacky stockings are a must.
Knee high socks - They're just awesome. End of story.
Silly Tees - T-shirts with funny pictures, quotes, band logos, etc. I love those. I especially love this one that is the periodic table of internet lingo
Casual Dresses - You can wear anything with them :D
Waist Belts - So many uses. I can turn a jacket into a sweater! (good for when there are no sweaters washed)
Jeans - The EVERYTHING pants. Skinny jeans are just a big no for me. Straight or with a bit of flare are good.
Tall Boots - The only shoes I wear in the winter (partially out of laziness) in black and brown, and really comfortable.
CONVERSE - Why do I even bother with other shoes? ok, and some flats.. I try to stay away from heels no matter how comfortable/pretty because i'm extremely clumsy. Now just add pointy shoes and I'm a danger to myself as well as others.

    Hates:
    Hmm..

Ankle boots - They just look horrible and make who ever is wearing them look shorter.
Half boot, half sandal - The most stupid shoe created yet.

Jeans, converse, some kind of top or t-shirt and no makeup because I'm too lazy to learn what to do with it. I don't want people to pay attention to how I look anyway.

I basically wear trousers, a t-shirt (I prefer ones with no collar and which are mostly one colour), and my trainers. I don't like wearing formal clothing, I don't like things like belts and ties, and I feel much more comfortable in the clothes I normally wear.
