    ⚧ Gender ⚧

1)What do you consider gender to be? How is it different from the socially programmed definition?

2)Do you separate gender from sex or so called gender roles or are they synonymous?

3)Are gender roles in modern times detrimental or necessary? Why?

    4) What's your outlook with regards to how they should/will be perceived and handled in the future? Why?

[ Any perceived ambiguity is intentional for the sake of discussion. I'm interested in how others interpret these ambiguities. Ideally, assume you're explaining yourself to a toddler. ]

Well, as far as definitions of gender, that's where I stand.

As for roles, people can choose what activities they want to do in life. No need to tie that to a gender specifically.

For me, gender and sex means the same thing and they consist of three categories: male, female, "exception". Sometime, nature is weird and some unexpected thing can happen. Gender role is not a term that I like... I prefer to use the term "gender common behavior". Things go more smoothly when you follow them (because it is more predictable) but it becomes more interesting if you don't. The existence of gender common behavior is useful because it makes prediction easier. Life is already quite complicated.

I don't see the point to have a penis, look like a man ... and asking to be considered as a woman. It is not nice to make people constantly dissociate what they see and how they should see you... especially that, if you do that with some random man, you're looking for trouble and our brain always keeps that in mind. In other words, if you don't want to be considered as a man, don't look like a man. At least, look like someone between a man and a woman. Also, if you are woman and you look like a man, don't flirt with someone that thinks that you are a man... that is also not nice

That's my thoughts. You are what gender nature/God made you and that's science, unless you have a legitimate, medical sex change then I'll go along with that, but who really cares about the antiquated gender stereotypes anymore? Be a male nurse, female doctor, stay at home mom or dad, or whatever you want to do, within reason.

Gender is a bunch of stereotypes and expectations for males and females. Not sure how others view this.

I view them as separate, except behavior differences that are due to biological difference (for example: a female can have one child per 9 months, a male could have more, this influences some of the instinctual behavior).

I'd prefer to see the gender roles go, but I have heard/read complaints that it would take the fun out of dating/mating/pair-bonding game. I don't mind a population decrease, but complete collapse might be a bit too much.

The people on this planet are so diverse in development (I'm thinking here of the measurements introduced as part of ego development theory by Loevinger and refined by Greuter) that I find it highly unlikely there will be a single answer to this.

    Gender is a social construct.

Sex is binary (ok, technically a third sex exists but it's evolutionary moot).

People have the right to pick a gender for themselves if they wish to.

Now, gender specific roles is another kettle of fish altogether, and it would warrant its own thread. To put it simply, I think people have always tried to rationalise why they won't do certain tasks they find difficult/distasteful/boring. The strongest person will force the weakest person to do said chore. Nowadays it's happening with men vs women in the confines of a household, but it's not dissimilar to how free men would have slaves do the chores noone liked to do, or how rich folk will 'pay' lesser folk to serve their food, clean their sh*t and take care of their children.

Male definitely, although an usual body shape for a male (check his instagram). Not the greatest skin quality, seems to love make-up. Probably has custom made clothing, judging by how well it fits. I would say let this man do what he enjoys

    Anatomically male.

Gender wise, whatever he feels like.

Looks like a woman, is a man... however, if I want to speak about the person in the video, I'll most likely use "she/her"... but it may change during the conversation depending on which pronouns the other use.
