What is your opinion of other INTPs?

Like say you run into an INTP in the wild or on the net someplace else.

Do you like them? Are you critical of them? And any other opinions on interacting with the distorted reflections of yourself

How does one know when they've met an INTP? My dad is an ISTP, my mom is an ISTJ, my sister is an ISTP, and my brother is a seemingly introverted ESTP. The only thing I can ever nail down to anyone I ever meet is E or I, beyond that, I'm clueless, I don't even know how I, an INFP, can be so unlike any INFP I've encountered here on PerC. I may have met a dozen INTPs in my life and I would be none the wiser.

    I tend to like them.

They don't always like me, but that's understandable.

I don't like myself either, most of the time.

They're funny. Really an unexpected kind of humor, which often makes me laugh. I also adore you can make "not so nice jokes" in general or even about them and they come at you with a witty comeback or laugh it off. Very refreshing. You can have interesting (drunk) conversations with them. More talkative than you'd expect when you find the right topic. One of my favorite debates about an historical event was with an INTP.

I just highly dislike the unhealthy ones, who look down on others in the most immature way possible (lol u stupid) and a whole conversation with them is just them f l e x i n g on me with their knowledge. Like there is a difference between let me tell you this because it's interesting and I want to explain/talk about it and let me just bombard you with facts to show how smart I am and I don't even need you to contribute to the conversation just admire me. Also the I'm smart and no one understands me smh stupid feelers/sensors posts I've seen on this forum... eh. Not only by INTPs though to be fair.

Well this post went in an unnecessary complaining-ish direction. Overall I like them, they're chill. Just the unhealthy ones really get me. More than other unhealthy types...

    : )

Lol I think about that second part a lot too. I enjoy people who talk about things enthusiastically for love of the subject, but I see a lot of flexing online but it often sounds like it comes from less knowledgeable or people whom I wouldn't respect. A bit uneasy to have association but that's how it is

I have had eight friends who are fellow INTPs. (I say 'had' because two of them I can confidently say have been downgraded to acquaintances at this point.)

I completely get all of them, so I always start out sympathetic, at least. Their struggles and perceptions are all quite familiar to me. I derive a certain amount of strength from fellow INTPs, because it reminds me that even though we're rare, we're not alone in our particular weird little difficulties in life.

The downside to this is that when I understand the struggles they're going through, it becomes particularly difficult to stand by and watch when those struggles get the best of them. Knowing how it all works sometimes makes me want to just swoop in with suggestions and potential solutions and my own analysis of the situation(s), and only with age have I discovered that that isn't always useful or beneficial. I've watched them react to severe stresses in understandable yet unfortunate ways, leading them to deeper insularity, distrust, and questionable decisions that may or may not lead to their intended results.

But that's life. It is what it is. With some of them, I've ultimately resolved to let them be whoever they are and establish with me whatever connection they're comfortable with, and in some cases this has diminished to a much fainter, more tenuous bond, which I have to accept as the best I'll get from a given individual. Their sense of safety and their pursuit of inner truth is more important than my ideal friendship with them.
