This is a discussion on Self-Improvement: Where do you want to start? within the INTP Forum - The Thinkers forums, part of the NT's Temperament Forum- The Intellects category; I originally intended calling this thread "Your main flaw", but knowing myself, I'd get easily insecure just looking at that. ...

Self-Improvement: Where do you want to start?

I originally intended calling this thread "Your main flaw", but knowing myself, I'd get easily insecure just looking at that. I kid. Anyway.

What do you truly want to work on about yourself? Let's be honest, but even moreso, helpful to others, maybe we can brainstorm our way out of this.

My biggest thing: impatience. If there's one thing that's really holding me back from my truest potential, it's my inability to wait on people to grow, give them the benefit of the doubt. I know that reasonably it would be the best thing for me in the long run (the Tit-for-Tat method), but I still struggle.

Well, there's my vent. How about you others?

Well, this being an INTP thread, this one will probably be mentioned a lot. LAZINESS.
Without my laziness, I'd be a mutha freakin BOSS.

My inability to accept and deal with my emotions--->Depression and giving up too soon---->Failure----> low self-esteem.

+ impatience with people and some projects
    +Pessimism.
I need to work on those, they are definitely holding me back...

I think all us NTs struggle w/ this. Something about our uncanny ability to see the future and our supernatural objective-ray vision of people's behavioral traits. The way I see it, it's easier than we make it out to be -- realistically, is this person highly likely to eventually reach the level you're looking for them to function @? If so, what I do is laugh it off and have an all-knowing omniscient Yoda outlook of the situation: "You will be... you will be..."

Laziness is da sh*t! Don't hate yourself for it. But more realistically, it's quite possible to develop your J skills -- in fact that's precisely what happened to me. If you're serious 'bout getting out of this pit I can write up some advice on the matter. Thing is, you'll have to be unlazy to start it. What a paradox :(

Ah, the first one is exactly what I'd post. Any solutions to this? Perhaps we should take this to those NF forums lol

TBH I just think I need to get better at not realizing them in the first place...
    However they say that's immature...

Unfortunately, covering the mess in your room w/ a wide blanket does not clean up the mess. If you read Freud you'll quickly learn how devastating this can be. I'll start thinking of solutions to this. Obviously thousands of other people have discovered the secrets but perhaps NTs need it to be worded / pictured a certain way.

I see, when you find a solution be sure to start a thread about it. Oh and send me the link, please.

I should probably start chasing material dreams and stuff..

But I'll finish my cup of tea first, got to set my priorities right!

I think there's a lot of things about myself that I would love to improve, but like others I suppose the root causes of my not being successful in improving these qualities is laziness/procrastination. There's a lot I want to do, but I truly am a skilled procrastinator.

That damn procrastination. I don't just put off activities like cleaning and doing the dishes but important stuff like travelling and otherwise following my dreams. I'm currently taking CBT for this, with some success so far.
