    The ISFJ Interest Thread

I created this thread as a place for us ISFJs to talk about things that interest us. Things you can talk about:

    - Share a fantasy world. Ex. Talk about a special town or a whole empire.
    - Talk about world issues and what should be.
    - Video games.
    - Interesting facts.
    - "What if everybody...?".
    - Music.

    I'll start off.

I like aviation a lot, especially when I was in high school. At the end of high school, I was hoping to get a pilot's license. I forget why I didn't do that. Perhaps the volunteer work I got involved in?

    Anyway, I like gyrocopters:

I like how they are capable of flying, without any power to the rotor! The rotor is driven purely by the wind! All that energy stored in the spinning rotor can do amazing things equivalent to helicopter maneuverability.

Go ahead and comment or talk about whatever is of interest.

    :P

    1) MUSIC... music is number one. Listening, collecting, playing, performing, recording... I'm a completist when it comes to bands/artists I love.
    2) food ...yeah two very typical things so far.. but i seriously love food. I love how there are so many flavours out there.. so many I could never try them all. We're so lucky that this planet got a variety and not just soemthing like ...potatoes. "Potato again tonight? yeeeah I guess", "raw, sliced, fries, potato and potato?". My favourite dish is basil pesto. ooo I'm also dangerously addicted to anything with pastry. :O~
    3) internet. der.
    4) dreams and the subconscious.
    5) photography and video editing. I love having a particular vision from listening to a song and fitting a visual to it.
    6) making lists, I don't know. I like having things written there right in front of me. I have a top 20 albums of each year list going back to the 80s and sometimes I've look through it as inspiration for something to listen to.
    7) drugs, I like exploring altered states of mind. Especially dissociatives ..they go great with ambient music! ^___^ plus they make great short cuts for....0_o
    8) driving or being in a car... I like the movement and ever changing scenery.
    9) diet and nutrition, I find the digestive system fascinating and how foods and the nutrients in foods interact. And what the body actually requires.
    10) I'm really interested in laser-tag but I've only ever done it once when I was young so *shrugs* ..one day! I've dreamed of joining a team!
    11) ok now I'm finding it hard to think of anything else worth mentioning... I like juggling that's fun. *shrugs*.

Haha yeah, I completely agree on this one. I read all over the place that ISFJs don't like the internet and I never understood that because I love it. I spend far too much time on forums about things that interest me and I often have to cut back on how many I visit because otherwise I'd do nothing else :D

The other thing I really enjoy doing is writing. I generally write a little bit every day. Anything from a blog to fanfiction to original fiction and I get quite twitchy if I don't get some writing in somewhere. We had a really big earthquake here a while ago and with the aftershocks it really knocked my sleeping and stress levels and for ages I didn't write. It felt so ... wrong. I'm glad to be back with the writing again now. Keeps me sane!

Oh, I can definitely contribute to this:

1.) I like Super Heroes. More particularly, I like the build up to and conclusion of epic battles and confrontations where everyone in a story has to come together to overcome something.

2.) I like the worlds in my head, but I don't like how they have a tendency to die off and/or be replaced with a new one. So I really like National Novel Writers Month, where you're challenged to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. I accomplished it last year, and because of that, suddenly, one of my imaginary worlds has weight and presence. So much so that I'm using this year's NaNoWriMo to write either a sequel, or a series of short stories expanding the story.

Heh, and I wrote that all without realizing sts06 will also be doing NaNoWriMo. Sweet, glad to know another ISFJ enjoys it.

3.) I also like to play D&D. I'm the DM, and enjoy using my creative, world building powers to make a plan and then see my players go through it. I'm also pretty good at making it all up when my players go off in another direction, because I've usually done a good job of visualizing the entire world.

4.) The strategy of Yu-Gi-Oh card battling.
5.) The beauty and tranquility of a sunlight illuminated green forest clearing
6.) The honest and deep laughter of friends enjoying themselves.

7.) Glee. No really, I was honestly surprised at how much I love the music filled episodes. It probably helps that I love to sing along, and feel really proud of myself when I can sing Rachel's "Don't Rain on my Parade" all the way through and with some semblance to the actual song.

8.) Minecraft and Dwarf Fortress. Both games play into my creativity, and my organization abilities. Do I feel like making a giant castle exactly forty blocks high with a magma waterfall in the middle? Yep, and here's where I start planning it and gathering the materials and... Etc.

I'll leave it at that for now, though I may think of more later.

I do! This is my fourth time through and every single year I say to myself that I won't do it because I don't have time. Then every year it gets closer to November and I realise I'll miss it; miss the crazy late nights, miss the interaction with so many other writers, miss the sheer thrill of all that output so every year I sign up again. Congrats on 'winning' last year; it's such a great feeling when you get there isn't it?

I know what you mean about the worlds -- the last 3 years I've written two stories in the same world (with the same characters, heh, because I got far too attached to them) and one in another and in the last one I felt quite weird to not be with my 'real' written world.

    Yes! I love superheroes!

That's cool that you write AND do NaNoWriMo. I had a friend who did it and he ended up publishing his work too.

I've written some creative stories in the past that I'm proud of, but short ones. I'm not the best at putting a whole plot and meat into a story. Just describing scenarios.

The first thing that holds my attention is my faith. Being a follower of Christ, my actions and life revolve around Jesus, family, and friends. I use to be very distant from my family. They had difficulty understanding me, and so it always made things awkward. I use to not have a lot of close friends either. That has fortunately changed.

My other likes, and hobbies are:

Pokemon: Though, I do not really play anymore(the cards or games) because I do not like where it has gone. I like to think about Pokemon though, and I am contemplating making a fan game that fixes all the problems and oversights in Pokemon.

Yugioh: I have been playing for many years. Still have not yet gotten all the cards for my deck.

Trading Card Games: I know how to play over 22 Trading card games. I have played Magic, and had a deck in tenth, but it never really held my attention, and was too much money for me. I still play the Dragon Ball Z CCG. I like the Teen Titans card game(but can never find anyone else who plays it). I have a deck for Dual Masters, and really like the simplicity of it(there is no need for dice, counters, etc). I have a deck for Bleach TCG, but I have not put much money in it.

Video Games: I been playing video games since at least the age of 2. I beat Tetris when I was 5. Some of my favorite Games: Pokemon: Silver(GBC), Tales of Symphonia(GC), Sigma Star Saga(GBA), Soul Caliber 2(GC/PS2), Zelda: Twilight Princess(GC), Super Mario World(SNES), Super Smash Bros: Melee(GC), Golden Eye 64, Mario Kart 64, Super Smash Bros(N64), Dark Chambers(Atari 2600), Halo: Reach(XBOX 360), Halo 3(XBOX360), Starfox 64, Kirby: Tilt n' Tumble(GBC), Techno Bowl(NES), Zelda: Link's Awakening(GB), Jaws(NES), Zombies at my Neighbors(SNES), Pokemon TCG(GBC). I have played many, many games, but these kind of stick out.

Group Games: Things such as board games and other games you would play with a group of people. Dominion is a very fun game, though it can be annoying at times. Apples to Apples can be a great game, with the right crowd of people. I have played Werewolf a lot, but not as much any more. Tomb is a good game, if you want to dungeon crawl with friends for 12 hours. Risk, likewise, is always fun, for the first 12 hours. Dutch Blitz is a fun game, though it takes ridiculous focus to play.

Anime: I really like anime. I have watched a bazillion hours of it. No joke. My avatar is from the Full Metal Panic! series. The main character is an ISFJ(though how others see ISFJ's). These are some of my favorite anime: DearS; Record of the Lodoss War; Big-O; Escaflowne; Outlaw Star; Moon Phase; Familiar of Zero; Kiddy Grade; Trigun; Rosario + Vampire; Lost Universe; Sailor Moon; Please Twins; Lovely Complex(Lov*Com); Clannad; Angel Tales; Chocotto Sister; FLCL; Vandread; Pokemon; Piano; Neon Genesis Evangelion; Gankutsuo: Count of Monte Cristo; Rurouni Kenshin; Yu Yu Hakusho; Bleach; Naruto; Eureka 7, Dragon Ball Z; Dragon Ball; Kare Kano(aka His and Her Circumstances).

Manga:I really like reading manga. Some of my favorites are: DearS, Rosario + Vampire, Moon Phase, Chobits, Neon Genesis Evangelion: Angelic Days, Negima!, Naruto.

D&D: I really like D&D. I have been playing since I was 14. It really allows my imagination to run free. I usually play a mix of 3.0 and 3.5. I have played original D&D as well though. I am not really in to 4th ed, no offense to those who are.

Drawing:I really liked to draw, but I have not in a while. I just lack the inspiration I use to have.

Piano: I am really out of practiced now, but I really like to play piano. I like music a lot, and I have always enjoyed the piano. I have always wanted to learn to play the violin, as well, but never could afford it.

Studies: Math and Science have always been interesting to me. I like Creative Writing, but any other writing is a chore. Japanese language and culture has always fascinated me.

Superheros: I have always like superheros, ever since I was a little kid. My two favorite superheros would have to be Batman and Spiderman. I like Superman too, though, and Wolverine is always cool. Teen Titans(from the television series) is probably my favorite show of all time. Raven and Robin are amazing and come in a close second to Batman and Spiderman. Unbreakable is one of my favorite movies of all time.

My group of friends likes to play group and/or board games too. The only one of these I've heard of is Dominion though and I haven't played yet because my friend only just got it recently. We've been playing The Village a lot (which I think is based on Werewolf) and then things like the Battlestar Gallactica boardgame, Arkham Horror and Fury of Dracula. I also like group co-operation games like Shadows Over Camelot and Betrayal at House on the Hill. I don't like dog eat dog games so much -- I'd much rather work as part of a group in the games I play.

I'm going to be doing the NaNoWriMo this year.

Writing...I like to ponder stories and very occasionally try and capture them in words.
What ifs on a grand scale sometimes -> lots of young people are put into particular situations, sort of thing. Life change -> wakingnup in a whole new environement, or having to go to a whole new environment/join the 'other' side.
Unrequited love, the odd couple, many way relationships, unusual relationships.
    Sexnsuality and emotion.
    Disaster.
    Multi-layered psychological or metaphorical elements.
    Ambiguous narrators.
First person present tense omnomnnom, or never discovering the narrator's name or looks/gender.
    Cross dressing/gender concealment.
Ambiguous times/settings - crossing genres, environements and periods.
Dreams and the subconscious. Like hiccups said, but in stories I make too.

    I like watching/reading series/fanfiction/stories/manga - homoerotic/homoromantic.

Excersize - Jogging and when I can find a club, dancing (Flamenco, I want to try Jive/Lindy hop when I get to university).

When I'm in better places, painting, and drawing, and occasionally writing alot.

Being close to nature/aesthetically pleasing areas. Walking in the lake district on holidays.

Dreams and subconscious and such like - shadow and archetype theories too.

    Internet.

Being driven on long car journies.

I have to agree on food - but it's gotta be good food.
