Why cant i do anything half assed?

Im doing some hand embroidery, something that i did a little of when i was a kid but now im not remembering very much about it. So i decided i was going to make a tortilla napkin. Which is basically a cotton towel with a design on it that you fold in 4ths and put your heated tortillas in to keep them warm. So it seems like a simple task but i managed to buy tea towels and then cut them (because they arent the right size... or my perfect size) then bought a iron on transfer, which was too big for the area and i cant just deal with it i have to search and search online for the perfect idea for a design. So my question is why cant i just allow myself to do some simple design to practice something that i havent done in years? why am i forcing myself to do something really awesome and perfect?

we all wanna make perfectly beautiful art. but in order to make that beautiful art you have to make mistakes. no one wants to make a mistake. so a lot of people don't try.

my advice. start small and simple. then work your way bigger and better after each attempt.

Well that is because Jesus gave you a whole ass (not to be mistaken with an "asshole" ). If he wanted you to do things half-assed, he would have only given you half an ass. And yes, I'm making the assumption that you have a whole ass, unless of course you're a character out of Voltaire's Candide!

Seriously though, I have the same "problem" but I don't think of it as a problem. When I'm going to do something, I feel compelled to do the best that I can, otherwise, why bother?

With new crafts and art stuff I throw myself in whole heartedly, but I do start smaller and sometimes get impatient and go big and complicated then back to small and completable... If you think you are capable of finishing the big one it is worth a shot- just don't feel bad if you do need to go simpler!
