I think most people have a hard time reading emotions in general. Unless you mean the obvious extremely visible emotions.

Yeah I agree. The majority of people are pretty poor at reading emotions unless they are blindingly obvious..
Very few people are actually good at picking up on emotions and seeing through masks.

This is generally shown through the fact that people tend to ask you 'What's Wrong' just because you aren't smiling or talking a lot.

I have tested as an ISTJ before so I would say no, but then again I'm oblivious to people's emotions. Either you are one of the few who can read emotions well. Or the people you can read are so obvious that anyone who couldn't read them should be shot.

Being an INTJ means we don't show many emotions, yet people mistake us for being sad or serious too often while all we´re doing is thinking.

I don't think ISTJ's are specifically better at reading emotions than the avarage. I know that women naturally tend to be better at it than men.

I'm able to read body language and facial expressions and use that information while I talk to people. That's not a naturally ability at all. I tought myself how to do this, which actually takes a couple of years before you can do it without thinking about it. (like learning to play an musical instrument.)

One of the side effects of learning this is that I now can tell how bad most people are at reading other's emotions. And to be honest, I sometimes fail completely, especially with new people. It's easier when you know people as there is no standard pattern that fits everybody.

I think I can be difficult to read, as I will try very hard to put a mask over negative emotions if I have to function out in society. Sadly, though, when I am upset I can come across as angry and unfriendly, mostly because I couldn't muster a smile. Sometimes when I'm deep in thought, people will ask me what's wrong (when of course there's nothing wrong).

To be honest, I feel sorry for anyone who tries to read me. I have a poker-face everywhere I go and rarely express my emotions.
