I'm curious. Do you ISTJs here consider yourself a patient or impatient? Can you give an example to back up your claim?

I am in shades of grey where patience is concerned. I get frustated easily and at things that most people might not find annoying. People's constant stupidity and illogicality gets on my nerves.

However, I am great at controlling my emotions and not letting them show. So, with people I am not close with, they would classify me as an overly patient person as they don't know if I had ever been angry.

With people who I am close with and who understand me well enough can tell when I am angry and am just hiding it. They will say I get annoyed easily.

It really depends on what you consider to be patient. Is it how much you express/ show to others or how much you feel?

    I consider myself patient.

I can teach people computer software, troubl-shoot a pc or explain how to connect the various receivers, dvd players, tv's, console's different ways until they grasp it. I may have to show them 3 and 4 times over before it sinks in, which i'll happily do... maybe this is the teacher in me (mum's side) - just relies on them giving me all the information i need to determine the best way to explain it to them.

I think I'm impatient. I like to do things quickly. I can't stand it when people do things very slowly. I don't like to explain too many times and I get pissed if the other person still doesn't get it. I can't stand it when the person walking in front of me is too slow and blocking my way when I'm in a rush. I can't stand people who drive slowly, like UNDER the normal speed limit.

    ^This.

I can be quite patient if the situation dictates, but I am likely to be impatient with people or things that don't perform as they should.

I'm quite impatient, especially concerning time. Nothing pisses me off more quickly than someone who seemingly has no concern for punctuality or time in general.

A particular girl with whom I fence is an extremely nice and well-meaning indivdual, but she can't be hurried for anything. It drove me nuts at a tournament we attended recently. Due to registration issues, our group was hold things up a bit, and finally after her registration was straightened out she had to go get changed into her uniform. The tournament was starting. You must be on strip when the director calls your name. It was her first tournament in a while so I was helping her out, but for the love of God, I couldn't get the girl to move! It all worked out, but not before driving my blood pressure through the roof.

Also, I consider it the epitome of bad manners to be late for any type of appointment.

You can leave my head, now! I felt my blood pressure rising just reading your story.

I'm very patient when teaching people, because I know how it is to simply not grasp something the first few times, but at some point I throw my hands up and tell them "your just going to have to follow the book" and leave it at that.

I think I'm pretty impatient in general. I'm always on some sort of internal clock to do everything to perfection when stress occurs, and you drag your feet during that timer, and I find ways to avoid showing frustration for the imperfections of others. I rarely blow up on people, but probably more than others.

Agree with most of this! If the person doing things very slowly is a child or is elderly, I tend to have more patience. I also don't mind explaining things over and over if the person is really trying to understand, although that can be frustrating for me. I'm trying to learn to be more patient. I realise my lack of patience is a huge flaw.
