Do you ever talk for the sake of talking?

    Hi all!

So there's an individual who is similar to myself, at least, externally: aloof, reserved, quiet, etc.

Normally I leave them alone, unless we are direct co-workers and that's how I get to know fellow introverts.

Just curious, do you talk to get your social fulfillment quota or would you be perfectly content on your own/not talking to anyone (both at work/school, on your off days, etc)? Would anyone do, and would you vastly prefer if they came up to you vs you going to them?

    Edit: typo

For the sake of not being bored, sure.

I can fulfill that quota without talking. I only need to have people in the vicinity so I can observate.

I only talk to people I already know, or when I want to know something about them, not to just barf words. I am hardly ever curious so most people I know, started the conversation. Sometimes it can take months of just sayin hi, before anything happens (and most of the time I don't even know how we got to saying hi anyway).

For the rest I rarely ever make the effort to walk up to people I know, if they are not directly in the way I was going anyway. I see them, I wave and go where I need to go.

    The what quota?

Anyway, when I fuck off to the middle of nowhere (alone) I obviously don't speak to anyone for days. Talking in general is always optional.

There's just one drawback: Talking is a skill like any other, it only gets better by practice. So if you don't practice, you're limiting the tools you can employ for advancing your career. Depending on where you are in life and work, you'll eventually notice this.

No. Not unless I am drunk.

Rarely. Usually pretty content on my own with the occasional interaction - though currently I am on a mad posting spree, so apologies if that seems incongruous.

Well, anyone not in a state of raging fury, generally. Tends to impede conversation.
I don't know that I would have chosen the phrase "vastly prefer"... but yes. I'd generally rather be asked something than do the initiating.

Although I can think of a few instances where I would have much preferred not to be approached. Like in the supermarket, I hate when people randomly come up to me and try to tell me what to buy. I like to examine things carefully before I buy them, so to others, that might seem like indecision. It's not, it's just me considering the pros and cons. But invariably someone will come over, see me looking at something for more than thirty seconds, and try to tell me what to choose, or comment on my choice. And sometimes it's the weirdest non-sequitur comments. I had one guy tell me "stop choosing healthy" when I picked up a block of Mozzarella cheese (?!). And another woman tried to tell me not to buy sausages with apple in them because fruit doesn't belong in meat. While I can understand why she might dislike this, why should she assume that I would? Strangers in supermarkets engaging me always makes me feel off-kilter.
