    New ISTP

Recently had to sit down at a computer and take this test for a class along with some other stuff but this thing basically hit the nail on the head with the ISTP description it was cool. Anyway I started wondering if any ISTP people think cooking is an ISTP-ish career right now im starting college but im in community college and I have no direction really I was thinking about something with computers that requires a degree so i can stay goin to school like a good boy and cook at home

What can you see yourself working with (around computer stuff) ?

Imagine sitting in extremely boring meetings with old people bladdering on and on about computer stuff in details..that kind off sucks.
But on the other hand you could perhaps be the IT support guy saving the day every dat at a big firm.

Computers are used everywhere so it wont hurt but i strongly advise against code scribbling in some unlogic terrible programing language.

Consider something that have some amount of outdoor activity but dosent place you at the bottom of the food chain.

As an IT Pro I can definitely say it's something that fits my personality very well. Always responding to cries for help and saving the day! The biggest issue is sometimes you get completely swamped and feel like you're being pulled from every direction, which is very draining but doesn't happen very often.

I'd probably recommend finding a job at a local computer repair shop and naturally take on all work offered to you by friends and family (there never seems to be a shortage). Working at a call center is probably not what you want, I did it for 7 months and went crazy, even though it was the easiest job I ever had.

The only other ISTP I knew at school became a chef and he loves it. I love cooking too, but not sure I'd want to do it as a career.

I'm a freelance baker (farmers markets). Suits me perfectly. Love it. The one thing about working as a chef/cook for someone else is that you are usually required to make the same thing day in and day out...not a high priority on ISTP happy list. Plus there is a rather rigid hierarchy in most professional kitchens which ISTPs find oppressive and stiffling. Of course, there are ways around these obstacles. But in general, the culinary arts are perfectly suited to ISTP temperament. Freelancing at farmers markets, personal chef, cooking out of a mobile kitchen ...all great options for a foodie ISTP.

Welcome to the forum, and cooking is my therapy. My family loves for me to cook and I have been responsible for feeding 10-12 people for holiday meals for the past 10 years. I would say go for it!! I think that a lot of the great chefs like Bobby Flay and maybe even Rachel Ray could possibly be ISTPs.

No, just not buying into the stereotypes. But being outdoors in fresh air does help us immensely.

Which is why urban farmers markets work so well for the ISTP.

I work as a systems administrator and support. I am great at it, but like computers, you can only be as fast as your slowest component. In my case, the users i support, are extremely slow. Saving the day is nice, but i never do any meaningful stuff, just telling people that their monitor is not broken, their computer is just turned off.

I am contemplating a career change at this point and going back to school and unfortunately, everything is a possibility.
