I would sleep in utter silence, if it was just utter silence, but utter silence is usually followed by a range of sounds that I don't normally hear, and then I get paranoid. So my computer fans is my lullaby.

I hate falling asleep to a fan, especially if it's the only noise going on. It's just so annoying and repetitive, it's all I can focus on. I like falling asleep to total silence, it's peaceful, I also love falling asleep to thunderstorms or rain. Loud noises don't bother me either, unless they are really repetitive, when I'm falling asleep I kinda just put all the noise into the background and focus on my thoughts, the noise becomes like a peaceful backdrop. But when there is just one noise, like an annoying fan, it's all I can focus on, and I can't focus on my thoughts and drift off into sleep.

I pretty much have always slept with a fan since I was young. This winter I kind of broke the habit since it was a record cold winter here. When I move to Texas, I may have to use a fan again. I have one of those high velocity fans so that does work wonders.

White noise can be helpful, but I normally sleep without any white noise generators.

I sleep really poorly if there's constant sound in the background. I usually sleep with earpluggs because i find complete silence more calming

I can't sleep until I have absolutely exhausted myself (mentally).
This will involve (independent) reading & researching, and even then, some nights I will go without.
To remain relevant to the topic- (if) when I have reached the point of exhaustion, that will support sleep, it usually does not matter whether or not I have white noise or silence.

In waking hours, I prefer silence (if that is of any interest).
I have to focus on any noise I hear, I struggle to block it out. I have urges to think about every sensation I encounter. Urges is an extreme word, but "want" seemed to imply more willingness than there is.

In the winter I let my humidifier drown out noise. In the summer when it's not hot enough for air conditioning, I let my fan drown out noise. Every other time I use a white noise machine to drown out noise.

If I have to, I can sleep without anything. As long as I'm tired enough. I really prefer a little white noise though.

I think I actually sleep better in the summer because of the white noise from the fan. When I was younger I would turn my fan on at night even in the fall because I liked it so much. I've considered using white noise tracks on a regular basis to help me sleep.

I think I have tinnitus so I usually like some small amount of noise but really only if I need it if it's a fan. I put it on for other reasons mostly I love falling asleep cold on a warm day.

I tried a few nights the past couple of months to sleep without noise, and it simply does not happen.
I play either rain or fan noise on my laptop.
