When I say this, I mean to ask if there's ever been a belief, ideology, or perspective that you've held very dearly which you then completely abandoned.

An example would be abandoning religion or becoming religious (or switching to a different religion). Another might be switching from an animal-based diet to veganism or perhaps the reverse. Another might be from neo-liberalism to socialism or vice versa. Essentially, if it's an belief that is very important to you and that you've held for a long time which you then completely changed, it counts.

If you'd like, explain the process by which it happened.

Yes on quite a few things. I went veggie/vegan 6 years ago after 20 years of eating meat. I also in the past few years have changed my political beliefs from more left leaning/green to pretty much libertarian (though I'm not an overtly political person, I've never voted for instance). Frankly I'm skeptical of anyone who has hasn't ever their mind on anything big.

Absolutely.

I grew up as a hardcore Christian and after visiting Jerusalem that all changed. I got to see all the things the Bible talks about and everything became so much more real. All the esoteric and mysticism was lost. I never believed Jesus was the son of God ever again.

Happy Atheist :)
