How did you get involved with personality typing?
I really didn't know much about it until one of my children became interested in it. I started learning about it in order to understand their fascination with it.
What is your Myers Briggs personality type?
What is your Enneagram type?
I don't know a lot about Enneagram but the last time I took a test this is the result I received.
You are most likely a type 6.Taking wings into account, you seem to be a 5w6 or 6w5.
So what's it like being an ISTJ and an Enneagram type 6?
Well, it's nice to know that there are others with similar personalities. I feel like this personality type is often misunderstood.
Do you think the different personality theories give an accurate description of you?
For the most part yes. I am not always as organized as some descriptions make us out to be. I do know where to find things, but I don't always have everything neatly filed away and organized.
Which personality theory do you prefer, and why?
I don't have a preference.
Do you use personality typing in the real world?
To a degree. I feel like it has really helped me understand my mom a lot better. I believe she is an ESTJ, we really had a rocky relationship when I was growing up. I think understanding her personality has helped me move on from some things.
Has personality typing helped you in any way?
Yes, I think understanding the differences helps me get along better with those I am close to.
Do you prefer to associate yourself with certain types, and why?
Not really. I do tend to understand some types more easily than others. For example those who deal with what is known are easier for me to relate to than those who prefer to dwell on what ifs.
How did you initially find your way to PersonalityCafe?
Checked it out because one of my kids was really interested in it.
What made you join us?
I initially only lurked on Personality Cafe. Then I joined but didn't really actively participate in threads for about the first 7 to 8 months.
Why did you choose "jamaix" as your username?
I honestly don't remember.
What is the significance of your current avatar?
She is an actress from the series, "When Calls the Heart." She plays the role of Abigail Stanton and I really like this character. Her role is about a woman who faces a lot of adversity and who chooses to stand up for what is right. She doesn't back down even though failure to do so could damage her late husband's reputation and cause additional hardship for herself.
How about your signature?
It serves as a good reminder to me. A lot of times discussions/debates on Personality Cafe can become heated and ugly. I think it is good to remember that being sarcastic and nasty doesn't win anyone over. You will only garner the support of those who already agree with you. No one wins when it becomes about who can get in the best zinger.
If you had to choose your favorite forum on PerC, which would it be?
I have 3 forums that are favorites. ISTJ, Psychology, Spirituality and Religion
What do you like most about PersonalityCafe?
Gaining knowledge about some of our differences. I enjoy the opportunity to share some of what I have learned with others. I also like the chance to learn from those who may have crossed bridges that I have not.
What do you dislike most about PersonalityCafe?
I dislike how hateful, nasty and rude some can be when they encounter a viewpoint that differs from theirs.
What is the most important thing you've learned here?
I have learned the following as a result of both interacting and reading lots of post comments.
I don't have the the ability to know and see all that another may have experienced. It is nearly impossible to truly see everything through another's eyes. I don't know how they were brought up, were they loved, were they abused, did they experience personal tragedies that shaped their viewpoint. Also, the fact that many come from different countries with different cultures, religious, non-religious, different generations, all these factors affect perspective. I try to remember these things when communicating on PerC
Do you have any advice for the community of PersonalityCafe?
Nothing really profound. Just encourage members not to view those who see things differently than they do as enemies. Perhaps it would be more beneficial to view them as potential allies. If you strongly believe that what you think is right, strive to win them over.
If you could have any super power, what would it be?
Not sure as many would have pros and cons. At times I think I would like to be able to see into the future, but if it looked grim and there was nothing I could do about it, the power would likely lead to despair.
What do you know now that you wish you'd known five years ago?
I wish I had known that my time with my daughter was so limited. I wish I had known that she would meet someone at college, marry them, and end up living so far away from us. I'm not really a part of her life anymore and likely never will be. No relationship problems, just too many miles between us. If I could go back I would work really hard to treasure every minute with her. Trying to do that with my son now.
What do you believe is your greatest accomplishment at this point?
Raising two wonderful kids. Both are responsible, hardworking, and seem to have their act together.
Tell us something about yourself that we don't already know.
That I am extremely introverted, and can be really shy around those that I don't know.
What is next for you? What are your plans and goals for the future?
Other than a couple of home based businesses, I haven't been employed for many years. Since both of my kids are now grown, and the youngest will be leaving for college again in August, I may re-enter the work force. Still trying to figure out exactly what I should do. My husband and I want to put our home up for sale next year, and there are many projects that need to be done so I may focus on those before re-entering the workforce. I'm not really sure though to be honest.
Give us your parting words.
Life is short, live it in a way that you'll have no regrets about. Do your best to make sure that those you love, never have to wonder about it.
