I'm about to go to college soon and I need to make some concrete decisions about my major. I wanted to be an actress when I was a kid, and wonder if I should still pursue that. The last play I was in was in middle school, but the life of an actress still appeals to me. The independence, creativity, and inspiration through interaction with other creative people are definite bonuses, but I struggle with the drama. I don't like to be dramatic and theatricality was something I considered a strength in the past, but now has become something I loathe and avoid participating in. I want to be in film and I want to be an actress, but I detest the uber-dramatic stereotype that is associated with it, which makes me wonder whether it's right for me. If I become an actress, I hope to bring reality and depth to characters rather than drama. A skill of mine is understanding people and being open-minded about them. My analysis has brought me to three possibilities- either that's an indicator of my potential to be outstanding in the field, or it's an indicator that I should stay away from the field, or it's an indicator that there are factors about acting that sound right for me, but I'm missing the key ingredient and a similar but different field would be ideal.
Although I couldn't do my personality justice in a paragraph or in a simple ENxP, I'm desperate for an outsider's perspective!

Funny, when I was a kid, that's all I ever wanted to be too, an actor. Not for fame or glory, I was too young to know about those things, just imitatating, "being" someone else always was fun. I did and think I do good imitations. LOVE trying to imitate different accents (just check out the "let's hear you voice thread" or something."

But I think an ENTP would be a total natural at acting. Their ability to improvise socially is very high I think.

I am not sure if one's type affects how good they can be at a specific career. One could argue that some types have an easier time performing certain jobs than others, but to say one type can't be an actor, an artist, a scientist or whatever... That doesn't make sense to me.

People are more than just types.

If you want to act, then go for it. Chances are it is not going to be an easy journey regardless of your type.

You look like a Social Capitalist, ENTP, visual temperament, auditory learning style

Have you ever thought about broadcasting, like becoming a news broadcaster? You look very well suited for the job, and you don't have to memorize screenplays and travel with a film crew. You can also be an interviewer and host your own television show.

I agree. To clarify, my question should've been "is my personality suited for acting" and using the types I've often switched between was just an easy way to communicate the internal dichotomous struggle. Thank you though, you make an important and helpful point.

Ah I don't know. I considered journalism and broadcasting, but rejected it... maybe I should revisit???

What a coincidence, thank you I want to take it as a sign

    Yikes. Thanks for the advice.

I agree. I also had to clarify this with someone else, sorry. I realize my type has nothing to do with it, I was only using the letters to help explain the two opposing yet related feelings/thoughts I was internally comparing. But you're right it doesn't matter, and if I decide it is what I want to do, that's what is important. Thank you!

yes indeed even the most antisocial type (mine) can become a famous actor (sigorny weaver for example) although when it comes to INTP's you'll find they say they just did it because somebody asked them to and they kept getting asked and being a famous movie actor was an accident (that's the kind of thing my type or similar would say). Yet an extrovert would go and seek it, and it doesn't have to be a particularly easy road because they have so much determination. Anybody can be an actor... but like I said... some types naturally don't let people tell them what to do or how to be. They ignore the nay-sayers and go for it. Some people are like that despite their personality because their life has made them tough. ;) my advice is, if you want to do something then just do it... so what if you "waste" a couple of years on something. You will always learn something about life.
