Personality types and sense of humour?

What's your personality type and sense of humour? Do personality types and sense of humour correlate?

I'm ISFJ and I would describe my sense of humour as being quirky - which seems similar to INFPs, INFJS, and ISFJs I met. We can be self-deprecating and funnily confident and also notice quirky connections with things going around us, which make us laugh - I"m not sure how to describe it, exactly. But me and my INFP friend laugh a lot about the same things. It was the same with an ex INFJ I had.

MY ISTP husband describes his sense of humour as 'dry and cerebral', which is true. He makes jokes that sometimes other people don't get - because the jokes require having a certain set of knowledge or a certain level of intellect, to 'get' the connection. They require mental leaps. I'm not sure if this sense of humour is similar for other ISTPS.

I don't like slapstick humour that much.... people 'falling down or crashing into things etc...people playing pranks...

Tell me about your sense of humour and personality type, and what connections you see...

I also never found humor where people fall down or crash into things to be funny, don't know why, just never did. I don't have a dry sense of humor either, although I do this thing where I laugh and make a joke sometimes when something bad happens so it can count as dark humor but I actually don't find it funny, just ironic and helps lift the mood I guess. I find clever turn of events funny, so jokes where something happened originally, then it leads to something unexpected but somehow interconnected - that kind of stuff makes me laugh, hard to explain in detail.

I've never really found slapstick or extremely crude humour humorous either, but aside from that I think I'm able to appreciate much of everything else.

I saw this video a while back on the ISTJ sub and have since tend to post it in similar threads. Mainly because I can relate to much of it; especially the first 2/3rds regarding types/relationships.

I'm INFP, I'd say my humour that I use came environmentally. I got my humour I think from my brother (INTJ), a web series called Zero Punctuation and general internet humour. Kind of snarky and shitposty. The humour I enjoy is pretty much the same, I'm not sure how to describe what I find funny but some of my favourite stand-up comedians are Lee Evans, Michael McIntyre, John Mulaney, Frankie Boyle's older stuff, etc. I've never seen a Lee Evans show that hasn't had me in agony from laughing. And JonTron's old pre-Game Grumps videos are probably my favourite thing on the internet.

I don't think a link between personality type and sense of humour will be that strong, but there will probably be some kind of link. At the very least whether you're a Sensor or an Intuitive will have an effect I think, since we look at things differently. I get a big laugh out of being shown the funny side of plain everyday things, which sounds like the ol perspective-shifting Ne. But I like plenty of other stuff too.

I guess it depends on who I interact with - I tend to poke fun of myself or a situation . I’m more quirky with people who are more emotional and I can get quite dry and sarcastic or even dark with those who have dark humor - I tend to adapt to others humor ( never notice that until I posted this so thank you for asking :) )
I don’t like bathroom jokes - or find things like Austin Power or Jack Ass funny , if anything those humor irks me and rub me the wrong way . Other than that I laugh at pretty much anything ( I laugh easily )

My husband is also an istp and I think his humor is also dry and cerebral along with a twist of dark and satire .

Sarcastic pretentiousness. I hate it when I'm targeted, I love to target.
Wordplay is annoying, I do it a lot.
I like to take serious sarcasm into the next level, true seriousness... I've yet to encounter another being tumbling down the rabbit hole with me. Closest example is monty python,

... ah, here's what it might look like IRL.

My sense of humor is dad jokes, bad puns, and absurd remarks that make no sense. I also enjoy social media shitposts and memes. Dark humor can also be pretty funny (example). Not a fan of slapstick/potty humor.

I remembered an actual video that made my ISTP husband laugh. I didn't find it too funny, it was sort of decent.

🙂 It's clever....interesting.... I can relate to it but I wouldn't exactly call it fun-ny in a 'ha ha' sense, lol. Thanks for sharing!
