    MBTI of Popular Anime Heros

Trying to find the correlation of MBTI of anime characters that attract people

Dragonball - Son Goku - ENFP - Alittle dull with common sense but Intuitive with combat one good example was shunkan-ido kamehameha, eats like a whale, very emotionally driven and doesn't judge quickly

One Piece - Monkey D Luffy - ENFP - Almost identical to Goku

Toriko - Toriko - ENFP - What can i say Toriyama comic's heroes...

Gintama - Sakata Gintoki - INFJ - Judges everyone and everything, seems very logical at first, but his actions are mostly driven by his feelings.

Mr. Ajiko - Ajiyoshi Youichi - ENF* - not sure if anyone remembers this anime, its a cooking anime..mmmm

Maison Ikkoku - Godai Yuusaku - ESFP - Another old anime, wonderful storyline

Inuyasha - Inuyasha - ESFJ - Loveable half demon, very judgemental and very emotional

Cowboy Bebop - Spike Spiegel - *N** - Cant figure spike out i am just guessing, but his character is like a struggle between feeling and thinking.

Naruto - Uzumaki Naruto - ESFP - Based on the way Naruto absorbs information and learns he is not Intuitive and bursting with feeling.

Gungrave - Bradon Heat - INF* - Quiet guy, not very social-able, driven by his feelings for his best friend, the women he loves and his boss.

Hellsing - Alucard - **TJ - I am inclined to go with INTJ

The list goes on, but i am figuring, at least for most of the Japanese anime hero(s), F is a big part, something about emotional outbreaks that really capture the audiences attention.

In fact if we put a list of all the main villians, i think the common denominator would be F as well.

All T characters are normally supporting characters

any inputs? (I know i skipped afew well known animes feel free to input more animes)

    INFP - The Idealists

    Alphonse Elric: INFP definetly.
Edward Elric: ESTP (thought feeling at first, but that's just his rage at hoenheim/father later on.)
    Roy Mustang: ENTJ
Hughes: ENFP (Roy and Mustang have an an amazing bromance btw, pretty similar to my friend who's ENTJ)
    Ling: ENTP
    Winry: ENFP
    Scar: Badass ISTJ
Hoenheim: ISTJ (far too goofy for that in my opinion, but immortality could do a lot to your personality :p)
    Major Alex Armstrong: ESFP.
General Armstrong: she's really tricky. I'd say ISTJ since she's very concerned with duty, not to mention extremely cold unless she cares deeply for that person, which she never lets on.

    Homunculi are harder =(

    Wrath: ENTJ
Pride: no clue, very cocky though
Greed: ENTP ENTP ENTP (I WANT EVERYTHING)
    Envy: type awesome badass
Gluttony: ESFP (he just wants to eat everything)
    Sloth: A tired ENFP (:p)
    Lust: ESFJ gone bad.
Father: Too far gone to even think about typing. Possibly a really deranged ENTJ, or ENTP.

    INTJ - The Scientists

Alucard definitely sounds like an insane INTJ. I would say ENTJ but he doesn't seem to care about leading other than with Seras, although that was through whimsy. Could be an INTP as well.

I agree with your assessments. Especially Naruto and Luffy. Any thoughts on Ichigo from Bleach? My initial reaction to the character was ISTP - potentially a T protagonist! I'm really not so sure now, but he's definitely unlike other shonen heroes.

Oh, and L from Death Note: INTP. Kinda an extreme poster boy fro INTP, in fact.

This is true. Manga/anime are often expressions of certain Japanese ideas and tropes. Japan is a very "everything in its place" country, and when it comes to the youthful protagonist of a boy's anime/manga, they should be boisterous and outgoing (E), a person of passion (F), but also a little irresponsible and in need of guidance (P) so they can learn from a mentor-figure. A heavy appetite also represents voracity and energy in Japan. The N/S divide is less obvious: most shonen heroes develop both traits: the story requires them to appear S to some degree (for expositional purposes they ask questions a lot) but also necessitates N traits later on, as they are required to figure out unique situations. Thus they are usually ENFPs or ESFPs often with a "could go either way" flexibility in the N/S dept.

Seinen heroes are more likely to be Introverts because Japanese society is inherently Introverted - despite young people being pushed to be as outgoing as possible and alone-time and self-reflection almost being seen as bad (collectivist society after all), once they grow up they are expected to quietly get on at their job, form a family and inner circle of colleagues/friends, and stay there, observing only basic social pleasantries with the rest of the world. Although the seinen hero is often a misfit or outsider in some way - somethings are common in different cultures and the lone young man trying to figure out his place and himself is one of these tropes.

Still, Feeling does seem to be important, I think to make the character sympathetic. They need to care and be cared about, so even T protagonists (I still think Ichigo is naturally a Thinker) will be given a solid dose F. Critical thinking is not pushed strongly in Japanese education, more a reliance on and adherence to others and society as a whole. Thus a hero must be strongly empathic and concerned with others, and not appear too rational, logical, or level-headed. Being too detached, self-focused, and pragmatic, would often suggest a villain...

Of course there are exceptions. Like anywhere, mangaka are artists and story-tellers, and their primary concern is compelling drama and interesting characters.

I just wanted to add - I think Vash from Trigun is ENFP. I think there was a whole thread just about him a while back....

my impression is that the culture in most anime/manga reflects an Fe/Ti kind of mindset/oganization.

    ESTP - The Doers

L is an INTP! And others from DN are Light-INTJ, Ryuk-ENTP, Misa-ENFP?, Near-INTJ, and Mello-ENFx?. Also, I think Haruko Haruhara from FLCL is maybe ENTP? Edit: Actually maybe Light could be a feeler, but I don't think so? He's very passionate and has a strong sense of right and wrong though.

    Hunter x Hunter
    Gon-ESFP
He's insanely sensing and is very in touch with nature, very outgoing and percieving who is driven by his emotions
    Killua- IxxJ
Not sure about S/N cause he has honed sensing skills from being brought up as an Assassin family, but is very strategic and shown to like concepts. He's probably an F as he disbanded from his assassin ways after meeting Gon while he has developed good T skills from his upbringing. My guess that he's an INFJ from his dark, complex and enigmatic character. So he's probably a well rounded ninja INFJ.

    @Moss Icon

L is definitely an INTP, I mean he was simultaneously the top 3 detectives in the world of DN what a genius.
He has really good sensing skills though, he kicked Lights ass in tennis and in a brawl haha.

    INFJ - The Protectors

Most shounen main characters are ENFP or, at the very least, have Fi.

    Hi again.

I think Gon's most notable trait is Fi so I'm unsure if he's ISFP or ESFP.

Killua is usually typed as ENTP or INTP but, imo, he's ISTP. He's definitely an introvert and his intuition doesn't seem like Ne to me. It's Ni. He seems Ti dominant and he uses his Ti and applies it to the real world or the present with the help of his Ni. He's very logical but also very aware of his environment and isn't really focused on the future, only if he's planning to test out a theory of his but it's tested in the real world, not through that of the theoretical like it would for an INTP.

If anyone's INFJ, it would be Kurapika. He's aloof, independent, judgmental, value-driven, moralistic, emotional and so forth. Originally he comes off as cold and distant just like most Ni dominants but it's also because he's focused on the future and goal-oriented- avenging his clan and reclaiming their eyes. Kuroro also seems Ni dominant to me. I don't think he's INTJ because he's quite charismatic- being able to control a group of such varying personalities- and he's able to go chameleon quite well unlike most INTJs and that's a trait of Fe. Remember when he met the Nostrade family's daughter and was able to fake so well even after attacking her in order to achieve his goal? He's a specialist and they're said to be independent but so charismatic that they always end u surrounded by others. Evil INFJ seems like a good fit. Some have said ENFJ but his Ni is more apparent than his Fe. When Gon asks him why he kills people who have no connection to them his response sounds so Ni-ish. Leorio seems like an ESTJ. He comes off as a business man too which is rather stereotypical.

IMO, I don't think ''popular'' anime characters are dimensional enough to be typed.
